There were so many great colors to choose from! I had to make a quick decision because I was short on time. The woman who helped me was so gracious to wind the yard right away and check me out. Two days later I went in again and the back part of the store was abuzz with everyone knitting and laughing together. What a delightful place! This made my experience in upstate New York that much richer. Thank you for the great yarn selection, reasonable prices and warm ambiance.

My wife and I spent a lot of time talking with Bob, the owner, and his partner (ugh - can't remember her name) about the history of their shop and some of the other unique places in Chatham. That said, being saleswomen, their opinion will usually be to support you in whichever one you like more, even if neither feels quite right. They only have a small selection from each brand's catalog on hand at a given time, and usually only one of each, but will provide you with the catalogs so you can peruse them and pick out whichever you'd like to see and try on. It takes a week or two to get them in; they wrote down your name and number to give you a call when they arrive. This is a nice option for unique and elegant jewelry if you're looking for an anniversary gift, graduation present, etc. My mom loves the line of handcrafted silver pieces-- she has at least three sets of earrings and a necklace herself, and has given them as gifts to a couple relatives, all of whom were very happy. These are the kind of pieces people stop you on the street in Manhattan to ask you about... They're always disappointed to hear they're from a little store upstate!

When I found out my wife couldn't wear the piece due to some medical procedure, we went back together and they could not have been more gracious. Before refunding they asked us if we'd like to have something made, which we decided to do. They came back with a quote for a tennis-style bracelet that my wife loves, and voila, it's a happy ending. Wonderful people, good selection, broad spectrum of prices. I've shopped at Tiffany's in multiple cities, and I am always happy to work with small family jewellers when I can -- Van Alstyne is a great example of why.

I was with a whole group and they managed to find some little things for the kitchen. Tools to take out tomato insides; dishware; clocks; soaps, candies, jewelry, candles, lunch boxes, reading glasses - such fun little gifts for yourself or anyone that you can think of. They were about to close when we walked in but they were smart and stayed open a little bit longer as we were obviously on a mission! They definitely know how to stand out a little from your average little store. It was a fun find! None of us live in the area (though one friend has a lake house in Valaties) so it was cool to browse through the main street and find some cool little items.
