Cat and…read moreDom are really good and caring instructors who prepared us with solid basic dry land instructions and made sure we are comfortable getting in the water. FYI, we haven't even been at the beach since covid. So, yeah... first time in the water in a while and learning how to surf. With great instructors anything is possible and it is never too late to learn something new. In the water they made sure we were safe and guided us thoroughly. My wife was able to stand on the board on her first wave. It was really fun. I needed more help and they were always there to coach us right along. Saved the best summer camp for last this summer. My son is going into first grade so this was our…read morefirst summer of summer camps and we tested out 6 different ones. This was leaps and bounds above all the others. I had walked by it last summer on a walk and immediately set a reminder in my phone to sign my son up for this summer. It isn't just how well organized it is and the fact that the kids are outside in the water learning new things and challenging themselves every day, it's the way the director/owner (and all the counselors) speak to the children. It's exactly how you'd want someone leading your child while they are away from home - they teach respect, are firm in holding the kids accountable for behavior, but all in the name of having a positive experience. We will absolutely be signing him up here next year for at least half of the summer. They offer full day and half day, we did full day (8-4), but I ended up picking him up around 2 a couple of the days just because it was so hot out. I have heard the counselors consistently encourage and actively ensure the kids drink water and reapply sunscreen and you can tell they genuinely care about each and every kid. This is only my son's third day and he's already bonded with the staff and talks about Matty (the owner) multiple times a day. He's never been on any board other than a boogie board and within 1 hour on his first day he was paddling out on his own on a paddle board. I can just see his confidence beaming from this camp. Instead, he arrived with one that had a broken leash and spent 90% of the time going back to shore, leaving me without instruction. This was beyond frustrating and completely unprofessional. To make matters worse, the merchant promised to take pictures during the session for two hours. She showed up late, despite the sky being clear and bright 30 minutes before the lesson was set to start. In the end, she only took photos for half an hour and never sent them to me despite my constant reminders. This experience was a total disappointment and an absolute waste of time and money. I would never recommend this service to anyone. The merchant was also being racist, and accusatory. I have the recording if anyone is interested. Overall, just stay away to keep your insanity. Many other surf schools in Huntington and I trust there are many other non racist people.

We've used Kayaks on the Water three times at this point, once for a kayak, and twice for a paddle…read moreboard rental for my wife. For the paddle boards, they work with Stand Up Rentals. The processes are easy, though parking in the area can be rough. Come early! The kayak rental was very affordable at $12 per hour per person. Prices have increased, though, so now it costs $14 per hour per person. The first time you rent a paddle board, it costs about $50 for the hour, and you must complete the orientation. However, with subsequent visits, you get a discount for being in the system, which turns out to be about $26 per hour. The rental equipment is of decent quality and what you would expect over years of daily use. The staff has been friendly with us, and it's great to get out on the water. You launch right there off the beach into the canals! There are restrooms available right on site, as well as outdoor showers to rinse off all the sand on your legs when you're finished. For the convenience, we definitely recommend Kayaks on the Water! Fair warning, though, it can take over an hour to complete the loop for the average paddler.

We had all watched the video already so we were checked in and on the water in under 10 minutes. It's bearing the end of moon jelly season but we were still able to see some and even touch one or two. It's very neat to see them out in the wild, they are beautiful creatures. The water on the canals was fairly calm and it was an easy kayak route. We had a great time!
