Decided I wanted to try surfing for sometime now so I decided to call "Let's Go Surf Shool". Carlos the instructor was very helpful and respectful I also told him I was looking at other schools and if I can call back another time. 3 days later I called back and asked if he can teach me on Labor Day on short notice and instantly agreed to do so. You don't get that at other schools! Next morning I was trained by coach Jason and I did grab a few waves but Jason was nice to even recommend board sizes and wetsuits for me, plus a great vibe on him. When the snow slopes, gyms and just about everything fun shut down. I had to find something to do? So I decided to take up surfing after 20 years. I will not lie the 1st couple of times was rough. But Carlos encouraged me to stick with it when I was about to hang it up for good in session two. He inspired me to drive on. He has a lot of patiences and teaches you to maximize your ability while in the water. I started one day a week and now I am looking at two days a week. When I fell off my board in the water and started panicking, he calmed me down and continuously checked on me when I went to relax on the shore. My friend and I had been talking about learning to surf for years, after trying every other sport with a board in the past couple of years. When I had to go down to the LA area for work, we took the opportunity to stay an extra week and find some surf lessons. We are both so glad we did this! This was an amazing experience and one I'm going to remember for a long time. Carlos was super nice and answered all our questions when my friend first called to inquire about lessons, which really gave us a good feeling about this school. We signed up for 3 lessons, all of which we did in a week as that was all the time we had, and had Rod as our instructor. It was such a fun week and I'm missing it terribly. Rod was a great instructor, super patient and kind, and overall just a lot of fun to be around. Carlos is absolutely amazing! I've always wanted to learn surfing but never found the right time to start. I love the ocean but the only water sport I've done is a little bit of swimming. Finally this week I just decided to give it a try. I had contacted another surf school but after they didn't reply I found Carlos here on Yelp. I am SO LUCKY it worked out this way: 1. Carlos was super flexible and was able to meet me the very next day at a time that was perfect for me. Pricing and instructions on how to get to Bosa Chica Beach were clear and straightforward. 2. On lesson day Carlos brought me a brand new wetsuit that fit perfectly! 3. Carlos is an INCREDIBLE teacher!! We spent ~30 minutes on land. He explained all the important aspects of surfing without making me feel overwhelmed. 4. Once we were in the water he continued to give very clear instructions on how to maneuver the board and the waves. 5. Carlos is so good at teaching to the pace of the learner and keeping my spirits up! We went deeper into the ocean in the first lesson and I felt extreme safe even when I got hit by the waves. It's obvious he loves teaching because he was just as excited as I was when I caught my first wave! 6. Carlos is super patient and encouraging. He always reminded me to breathe and made sure I had enough time to rest before setting me up for the next wave. The first lesson was so fun that I bought the wetsuit from him afterwards. Carlos was the best!!!! I went with 3 other friends for a 2 hour session. He was very knowledgeable about the waves and how to maneuver your board. Not to mention incredibly motivating and helped us catch some of the best waves! We even went an hour over time (without getting charged more) because he was so dedicated to us having a good time.
