What a fun little place having children in my lives means usually adults look for a fun place to eat maybe a coffee shop... Maybe a brewery or distillery if we're feeling daring... But really and truly, we're looking at hobby shops, toy shops, and other fun places where kids can feel excited to shop in real life something these days I don't think lots of kids have the option. So whenever we find a fun little shop, we like to buy some thing to help support it, I know growing up toy shops and other places themed for kids where we could go in and just play and beg for things was such a fundamental part of growing up. Now these days with Amazon and eBay and everything else it's hard to always get out there and get it pay the upsell or even just find something that works for the moment. Now we were just cruising around the downtown and luckily they had a whole event going off walking off the roads and we really got to enjoy. The scenery and shops came in here and grabbed a couple fun things for the kids and made our way down the block beautiful location. Lots of fun stuff going on and a ton of things to come in here and get your hands dirty with. read more

The store is fine. It's a niche toy store. But they kicked us out for wearing face shields -- FULL FACE SHIELDS. I don't know if this is their official store's dress code/ policy or if that was just an employee making up their own arbitrary rules. I mean, if they were requiring N95 masks for everyone, that would be one thing, but I didn't see other customers or staff walking around with N95 masks so ‍. I went in to this store with my 2 year old daughter and was told she had to wear a mask. She's two... She will pull it off repeatedly and touch it constantly, rendering it pointless. We weren't welcome to stay unless she put one on. They reserve this right, as it is their business. We'll stick with Learning Express. They seem to understand children better and have a nicer selection anyway. read more

While on vacation I realized I left my daughter's "lovey" in her crib at home. The first day we got to Bend this is where we headed. This toy store has so much stuff! Nothing better than a local toy shop with a great selection and knowledgeable staff. They've helped me the past two years with my holiday shopping for my younger nieces and nephews. Providing me with multiple options and ideas for each at different price points and areas of interest. Nice book selection as well. Free gift wrapping which is awesome. This happened a while ago but I'm just now getting around to sharing the story. My 18 month old and I came in and I was questioned several times if she was 2, and told if so she needs a mask. Several times I said no, she's 18 months old. It was as if they wouldn't believe her age? Then, they said she can't touch anything, only I can. At one point she touched something and they said "thank you for following the rules!" And I said sorry, she's a kid, it's a toy store, it's hard for me to look and also keep her from touching something. The worker said next time bring a stroller then. Yet last time they had me leave my stroller at the front and didn't want it through the store. Also, what difference does it make if I'm allowed to touch things, why can't she? Are you saying my daughter is dirtier than me? I'm sorry, I found the way they enforced the rules to be extremely rude and not kid centric when it's a TOY STORE. We will be taking our business to Hopscotch Kids and Target from now on. read more

The staff don't work on commission (I asked) but are super helpful! They greet you the moment you walk in and ask if you need suggestions or toy reviews and let you know they do FREE GIFT WRAPPING! I always come here to get presents for my kids' friends' parties because I don't have to worry about wrapping it, and I get personalized reviews from the staff working there. The owner is often there, ask for Suzy, and her store has been a town staple for a few decades now. She always has really good toy suggestions. As for what kind of toys they have, they seem to have a wide variety...they have the more expensive toys like LEGO or Calico Critters or Brio or like these DIY robots, but they always have alternatives available from more affordable companies like Melissa and Doug as well. They have a rewards program that doesn't cost money, and you get points for your purchases and then you'll get $10 off when you get enough points. I love this little toy store. I take my granddaughter there when she spends the night with me. That are so friendly and helpful. I appreciate that they follow protocol for safety concerning Covid. We didn't have a mask for my granddaughter and they offered us one immediately. It's so nice to have such a special place to make memories with my grandchild but also to buy adorable things and have them wrapped!!!! read more

Absolutely no lizards, let alone a leaping one. Fake news! Stuck in Chinese finger trap for hours. Should have remembered my doll and stuffed animal phobia. Love this store!! A+ customer service and inventory!!! Suzy the owner always goes above and beyond, you can tell she takes great pride in her store and employees. I went today with my daughters for a last minute birthday party gift, found just what we need and they wrapped it beautifully. My youngest daughter found a baby doll for herself and they even helped open in so she could play with it right away. As a Central Oregon local since 95, I have bought toys here with my parents as a child and i've always loved this store but I was incredibly disappointed that they were requiring young children to wear masks. I snuck my 3 year old daughter in and just kept her hidden in blankets. It was around Christmas and we were doing some last minute shopping. If you choose to putt your child in a mask at a young age that's your call and good for you. I will NOT be told that she HAS to. So she can touch her face more, risking getting sick and be confused? No thanks. I don't want my little one growing up thinking that's the norm. I really really really got sick to my stomach seeing that young kids would be required to wear a mask. Ridiculous. On another note the toys here are great and they will special order anything for you and they do have excellent customer service. That's why it was so disappointing about the child mask requirement. Adults, fine. Kids, nope. That's the parents call. read more

A truly great selection of premium toys. We go here for most of our birthday party gifts on the way to the party. Most recently my husband I went in for Christmas shopping for our 3 kids and 3 nieces and nephews, all newborn - 10 years old. Got everything on our list. Amazing customer service! They were super busy with holiday shoppers only 9 days before Xmas. All employees were calm, polite, professional, knowledgeable. They really set the tone for a great shopping experience even when they were under pressure. They gift wrap for free which is another major bonus...especially for holiday wrapping. I'll gladly take the help! I also LOVE that they feature local kid designers right in the front. Look there first, they've got some great ideas. Homemade tooth (fairy) pillow anyone? Our family of grandma, mom, and 4 year old, LOVED this place! It's a GREAT toy store!! There are excellent quality toys, some of which I'd not seen in decades. There was even a replica of a 40 year old Speak 'n Spell! The entire experience is happy and pleasant. Unlike crazy busy toy stores (including Hamley's in London) it is quiet, and you can think, reminisce, select, and enjoy! Even the restroom is adorably decorated. Items are beautifully displayed, in uncrowded aisles. The young woman who helped us was terrific, and provided local tips (including recommendation of Looney Beans Coffee, just around the corner). Bend's downtown area is charming and unique. This shop made us, visiting from California, appreciate the town even more. If shopping for toys, please visit Leapin' Lizards not only for its great selection and relaxed atmosphere, but also to patronize a small local business rather than a huge national chain store. The prices are likely be no higher ( e.g. there was a sale on Melissa and Doug toys, some of which we''d never seen before). Even if they cost a bit more, it is so worthwhile to buy here. We loove small independent toy shops, they always have unique stuff you won't find in your local toy's r us. This place is just that: unique different toys. Lot's of smart toys. I love those. My kid had to be dragged out of there. They have on display lots of cool stuff for people to try. Nice train table, and some other cool stuff. This is by far the best toy store in Bend. Their customer service is outstanding and the owner is a gem. I highly recommend taking your kids there even if you don't plan on buying anything there is a train set and play grocery store/kitchen. They have a rewards program that is great too.
