The way schools are teaching math today differs from how we learned many years ago. It can be frustrating for parents and grandparents to help with this new math. Our granddaughter likes her tutor and doesn't complain about going to tutoring and having someone else explain concepts (even though we wish the school that we pay for did a better job at this). A tutor can take the frustration away from us and our granddaughter which helps her to be more open to learning. Huntington has been flexible when a schedule change is necessary. Please believe me when I say that his academic improvements are night and day now.  In the beginning of the school year while our son was doing his "free-writing" homework we noticed that it wasn't actually writing, it was a bunch of letters, there was nothing to make of it. It is sad for me to say, but we had assumed it would get better from lessons at school. It didn't. Then one night our son shared with us that he was having a difficult time with writing & feels uncomfortable in class with other classmates teasing his writing skills.
