I've had dogs my whole life but never…read moretook my dogs to a dog park before because of so many negative stories I've heard from other dog owners, breeders, and friends. I was a little hesitant to buy a membership but I thought it would be a good way to socialize my 10 month year old pup with other dogs since Covid canceled puppy obedience classes and trainings. I was worried about the other dogs being aggressive or possibly attacking my pup from all the horrific stories I heard. However, it's been such a great experience so far. All of the dog owners are responsible and all the dogs have been very friendly. I've felt very safe taking my dog here and she loves it! There is an fenced in area for small dogs and another one for large dogs. You can enter the park off from Livernois next to the nursing home or get there from the Troy Trail. Membership is $35 for residents or $45 for non residents. You get a key scan card and scan the card to unlock the gate to enter. There is a small pavilion with a few benches which is nice. My only complaint is that there needs to be more shade! A few big trees need to be planted because it's too hot in the summertime for the dogs. There is not even 1 tree! Tip: Bring your own water because the water fountains are still not running due to Covid.

I was pretty hesitant about taking…read moremy pup to the dog park at first because it seems like you always hear bad things about them. We didn't have a fenced in yard and my pup just needed somewhere to run. City requirements made me so much more comfortable with the other dogs in the park, knowing that they were also vaccinated and registered. The secured entry ensures that not just any dog off the street can wander in. The other dog owners are friendly and responsible. Everyone keeps a close eye on their pet to ensure that play doesn't get too rough and poo is picked up. If someone misses their dog pooing, other folks will either help find the 'land mine' or often pick it up for them. There are multiple water bowls and a faucet with fresh water to fill them up at (which owners take turns doing regularly). There are two separate play spaces, one that's ~four acres and another that's for small dogs under 22lbs. The facility contains several benches and waste receptacles with free dog waste bags. The many "regulars" at this park form an awesome community. Everyone chips in to keep the park in tip top shape, owners know almost all of the others dogs' names, watch out for each other's pets and share both funny stories and useful info that can only come from another dog lover. There's even a playground outside of the park for the kiddos - dog park outings are fun and active for our whole family!

Good size with two areas, one for small dogs and the other for all dogs. Bowls and water is available, even a port o john for people. Only wish there was more trees within the dog area because shade makes for happier dogs and humans. So far all dog people seem kind, professional and aware of surroundings. Great job FH, all cities should have dog parks!

Review #501 October…read more31, 2024 Welcome To The Neighborhood With Macomb's Newest Outdoor Addition called- Pitchford Park ! I finally stopped in this park nearby My home to walk around the sidewalk paths, take photos to help others see so they can visit and enjoy it too. It is located on 49699 Romeo Plank. a 1/4 mile North of 22 Mile Rd. The park was created on 1.4 acres of donated land from a previous resident. It has a unique fenced in area with a membership key entrance called Pitchford Dog Park. The history story of Pitchford Park was named after a family of long time and now deceased residents that generously donated the land in 2021 to use to create a park using their last name of Joe Kay and Pamela Pitchford. Their parents were Bill and Joyce along with brother Todd who loved nature and the community of Macomb Township. Since I drive a few times a week on Romeo Plank Road, it was interesting to watch the reconstruction of the land to create now a community park. There are plenty of parking spots throughout the different areas of activities too. My photos attached show the entrance, trees, shrubs, flowers, tennis and pickleball courts, playscape areas, picnic tables and restrooms too. The newest attraction is a Dog Park for residents and non-residents with a fee and key to enter to use the areas for dogs to run and play with each other or their owners. Coming soon will be a Butterfly Exhibit in the Spring of 2025. For more information and registration to the Pitchford Park call: (586) 992-2900 and ask for director Sal DiCaro x 2800. Dog Park Fee: Residents $40.00 Non-Residents $56.00 Seniors $25.00 Non-Resident Seniors $35.00 Your Dog must have a license first to apply. Rules of the Dog Park are on the sign posted at entrance, and my photo is attached with the information. Hours of the park are Sunday through Saturday Dusk to Dawn. I'm looking forward again to cruise up here to enjoy my walks for exercise plus watch for the areas of nature to enjoy. Sincerely, Karen N. :-) Resident of Macomb Township

Don't go much anymore with the new dog, he's quite unruly and not so well behaved, except to my dad. We would go on the weekends mostly. My parent's dog, Tucker was super easy going and got on with most dogs, so this was a great place for him to run around and sniff out new friends, literally and run around and burn off energy. He loved the winters here or anywhere, best. This is a nice dog park, they have a fountain for the dog water and even have a gazebo for them to get some shade for a spell too. A very open space for dogs to run and play, a most favorite spot for parent's dog. The new dog likes it as much, but he doesn't get on as well with dogs as the last.

If I had only read the Yelp review before I stopped by, I would have known that I wasn't going to be allowed in the dog park, but I didn't (sigh), and so I swung by there with the canine, and was crestfallen when I realized I made the trip for nothing. My salvation came when a kind resident who was there took pity on us, and used his electronic fob to let us in. Although, maybe his motives were not completely altruistic - I think he saw a potential playmate for his dog in the bargain. Which was a pretty good assumption. He told me he wasn't supposed to let me in, and he'd get in trouble if someone found out, so I appreciate that. It's a great little dog park, but that is moot unless you have access, and so, I can't go for a repeat visit. It was just blind dumb luck someone let me in, and I'm certain even he wouldn't have done that except for the fact that no one else was there at the time. C'est la vie!

First and foremost, something IMPORTANT - if you click on, "Get directions" while in the Yelp…read moreapplication, you will be sent to the wrong place by Google. I'm assuming someone must have done the "find my location" drill originally when determining the location, and the GPS satellite was a little off that day, because if you follow the directions given on your phone, you're going to end up someplace else besides the park. Where will you end up, exactly? You will end up in the middle of Interstate 94, about half a mile away from the dog park, and you will be going around 70 mph when your GPS announces, "You have arrived at your destination". I've done it twice with the same result, in the same spot on I-94. Put in "Statler-Maloof Dog Park, St. Clair Shores" in your GPS, or, if it can't find that, put in "Brys Park, St. Clair Shores" in your GPS (the dog park is within the boundaries of the larger Brys Park), and that should get you to the right place. It's pretty close to where Harper and 8-Mile Road intersect. That housekeeping item aside, this is a great dog park. Additionally, it's open to BOTH residents and non-residents of St. Clair Shores alike. But, don't even bother going there until you complete the application process first, because you and Taffy/Killer/Spot/Duke/Coco/Diablo/Zoe/Bear, etc., won't be getting in without the electronic passkey (it's a key fob, in this instance) that you get after you get through the membership application. You can get an application at the dog park, online, or, have one mailed to you if you call up the department that handles it at City Hall. Yes, it's a pain to fill out the application, get all the dog's paperwork, and then take those things to the St. Clair Shores City Hall, where, if everything's in order, and you give them some money, they conditionally approve you as a member. It's conditional because you also must return later for an "Etiquette" class (not the dog, just you), and then, and only then, your electronic key fob is activated, and you and your canine quadruped can get through the gates, and use the park. You know something? It is totally worth it. Good people there, good dogs there, it's all so very copasetic. Definitely recommend!
