Carved by the river Lealt, the Gaelic name is An Leth-allt which translates to "divided stream". On a map it looks like a stream branching off into the ocean but because of the landscape many waterfalls happen on the water's journey to the sea.
Be careful with the online address, for some reason most places list a random place in Portree, these falls are in the city of Lealt.
There is room for about 20 cars in the parking lot. They've built a viewing platform on the right side where you can get a good view of a huge double waterfall.
The left side is more exciting, there are no railing here so be careful. From the viewing platforms you can see ruins of chalk processing and mining equipment and a good view of the ocean. When we came there were sheep browsing and we were impressed by how close they were to the ocean and the haphazard cliffs edge.
We only went to the top and it's a short stop though there is the option to take a 4.5 mile round trip where you can see the pools on bottom. It looked steep and wet in rainy weather so if you do decide to go down be careful. read more
