I was here during the high season (i.e. summer) and seemed like all hostels on the Isle of Skye were booked up. I called up this hostel and was happy to hear about available beds. But ouch, price per bed per night is £22 (or around $35). A bit pricey, but by then I was already used to how pricey the UK is. Awesome location, one minute walk from the bus station and not too far from the Co-op supermarket and Portree Harbour. If you continue walking past the harbour along the water, you'll eventually hit a trail with awesome views of the landscape. Because the hostel is new, it's incredibly clean. No backpacker dinginess, yet! I had one of the greatest showers ever after a day of hiking Quiraing and Old Man of Storr on a rainy day. The common/dining room has an awesome view of the bay. Each bed has an electrical outlet and reading light. My 4-bed female dorm had a cabinet in which you can lock your belongings. I always bring my own padlock but you can get one from reception. I do wish there were more sinks and toilets. There were only two toilets and two sinks on my floor. Kitchen has a place to store your groceries on shelves, and stickers are provided so you can label your stuff placed in the fridge and shelf. There are 8 burners, a microwave, an oven and plenty of bowls and plates. However, it was quite crowded around dinner time with everyone preparing their meals at the same time. I also noticed no common ingredients like spices nor oil was provided. Upon check-in, you're given a code you have to enter in your browser to access the wifi. However the wifi kept logging out so I had to keep re-entering the code. But at least there was wifi. My SIM card plan included data but it never worked on the Isle of Skye! I noticed a lot of families staying at the hostel but not too many single travelers the time I was there. Not really a party hostel. I really hated to leave this place.

I love this hostel. It's friendly and comfortable and everyone is very hospitable. It is just a…read moreplace to rest your head, so don't expect sky tv in all the rooms, and be prepared for bunk beds. But that's what you expect from a hostel. And you know what? It's absolutely fine! The sheets are clean, the rooms are clean, and there are quirky little touches that make you go 'awwww.' Better yet -they have a house cat! Laxziest and most unfriendly cat ever, but awesome nonetheless. The lounge is my favourite bit to be honest. I stayed here about 10 years ago and the lounge was what I remembered the most, and remains virtually unchanged. It has a fireplace that in the chilly evenings is cozy and warm, and everyone in the hostel congregates to this room. You end up chatting to people from all over the world, sharing a whisky or a beer. I will make mention of the toilets and showers. Clean. But few in number. We stayed at the front part where there were two rooms, with six beds each, and one toilet and one shower. Luckily they were separate doors altogether, but made it tricky for shower timings. Furthermore after a particularily booze filled Christmas eve in the pub, trying to find a toilet from the lounge took me up three flights of stairs where I couldn't work out the lightswitch. That's not entirely the fault of the hostel, but more my inebriation. It was interesting to say the least ;) Overall, Kyleakin is not a big village by any stretch of the imagination. But they have three hostels, and a hotel. When I was there at Christmas, just the one pub, although supposedly more will open up. It's a good base for travelling around skye, and it's well priced. In the evenings you can go to the pub, or play boardgames in the hostel. Even...take a cheeky swim in Kyle Akin, as some were want to do on a chilly boxing day morning. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, all three times I stayed.

Perfect location, lovely garden and spectacular scenery…read more Located in the west edge of The Glen Nevis this place provided everything what you need for wonderful adventure. Owner (kind of Gandalf type) was very friendly with unique sense of humor ready for a wee chat in every moment. We rented separate bunkhouse with 5 beds, separate private shower, toilet and kitchen. All facilities were in perfect condition. Unfortunately without nice view from the window. Next time we took 3 bed room which was located in separate kind of flat with two bedrooms (ours 3 bed room and second 2 bed room occupied by some couple). For five of us we had separate shower, toilet and kitchen&lounge area with nice view on the garden. Everything charged in a hostel price Parking outside and no problems.

Fantastic hostel - colorfully painted, very clean, well-stocked kitchen, comfy mattresses, and lots…read moreof personality. The kitchen comes complete with two stoves, tons of pans (including a stock pot and a wok), plenty of mugs/plates/cups/silverware, two or three fridges for guests, industrial sinks for washing up, potholders, towels, and communal items (foil, vegetable oil, salt, coffee, tea). The only downside is the kitchen is locked overnight, between about 2300 and 0800 the next morning, so you need to make special arrangements if you plan to come in late or leave early. Hiking the scenic landscape is a popular tourist activity on the Isle of Skye, so we welcomed the immaculately clean showers (well scrubbed and in lighted, individual stalls) with high water pressure and no quantity or time limits on the hot water's availability. Our host and hostess were polite, cheerful, and accommodating. The hostess even volunteered to wake up early and unlock the kitchen for us so we could hit the road as soon as possible. The pillows and lines were old and worn, but they were clean and kept the bed warm. Many of the upstairs rooms (bedrooms and the living room) had large, beautiful skylights that did wonders for providing a cheerful, peaceful atmosphere. There was a tv, free wifi, a large assortment of board games and movies, and multiple sofas to relax on in the evening. Nothing bad to say about this place! One note though: our visit was in mid-March, before midge season. There were signs dotting the lobby and bedrooms warning about keeping the windows closed to block out midge infestations and the hosts were selling midge repellent in the lobby. From the signs, it seems that midges are a huge problem in late spring and summer months, but from our conversations with locals, that's an Isle-wide problem and in no way limited to the hostel.

We were lucky being four people and getting a room for four with an en-suite bathroom. The shower-door was broken and it was heavy glass so it was a bit annoying. It wasn't exceptionally clean but reasonably tidy. The common room was small and cozy. What I found a bit annoying was that the little kitchen gets closed at night (after 10), so that one cannot get a tea or a drink from the fridge even. It also closes at 10 in the morning and you cannot get in until 3 pm. Not a problem if you are having daytrips around the island as we did, but it might be a problem for someone, particularly in emergency situations. I am giving 3 stars to try and be more objective about how the place actually is, but my experience was actually worth 4.

I was very surprised with the cleanliness of the place. It is asked not to be in the hostel from 12 to 15h or something like that so they can clean everything, great! Beds were comfortable and rooms looked new. There is a very impressing kitchen with all the tools you need. You can cook everything you want. Common room is nice, easy to meet people. Staff is friendly. Cool place!

The Black Cuillin Hills loom ominously and magnificently on one side, Glenbrittle beach lies directly ahead of the campsite and to the rear are wildlife-filled pine forests and the famous Fairy Pools. At only £5pp a night, with access to toilets, showers, the site shop, water sources, and a spacious field filled with cheeky rabbits during the night, Glenbrittle was a wonderful place to be. The location of the site is the key to its success, but also its only downfall. Being at the end of a valley means Glenbrittle stands in the centre of a huge wind tunnel, and when the gales pick up, so does your tent! Ours survived one night in 40mph gales but might not have lasted much longer. Some others didn't fair so well... An energetic 2/3hr walk will take you half way up to the Sgurr Alasdair (The Cuillin's highest point at 992m), and to its mysterious little Lochan and waterfall. A short drive away you will find Skye's tasty Taslisker Distillery and the little town of Portree. I would recommend this site to anybody!

Easily the best campsite I've ever been to…read more If there were an, ERM, app...that designed campsites based on personalities and preferences...Glenbrittle would probably pop up as my *dream match*. 90%+ compatibility! Meant to be, Glenbrittle and me! The Isle of Skye is gorgeous, so the campsite already has the surrounding beauty going for it. Otherwise, though, here are the key components that speak to me: - hot showers - fantastic coffee (a barrista on-site who makes delectable flat whites? Nothing says "camping is ok" after a chilly windy night than AM flat whites to warm the body and soul) - BREAD BAKED TO ORDER! BREAD BAKED TO ORDER YOU GUYS! Take that flat white, and level up with a loaf of seeded sunflower bread and a 1/4 lb. of butter. Sit by Glenbrittle beach and revel in how amazing caffeine, hot carbs and salted fat can be in combination. Yelp note: no phone service or wifi, which might cause immediate anxiety but - trust - is relaxing as soon as you settle into it.
