We had heard good things about Kilbride campsite, and we weren't disappointed.
It's immaculate, it looks almost brand new and it's well maintained. It's almost clinical! Everything is white and shiny and brightly lit. Imagine a hospital wanted to build a campsite - Kilbride would be it. Surprising for a campsite, but we were very pleased to find such a great site, right down at the bottom of South Uist.
It has great facilities for a motor home - flat pitches, which are staggered so that every pitch has a view out to sea, which is very considerate. There's electric hook-ups, grey water disposal, chemical toilet disposal, fresh water point, and recycling points.
The showers (three cubicles) were clean, and nice and powerful and hot, and the area was nicely heated. Ahhh.....
We used the kitchen too, just to get a break from the confined space of the motor home. It was well equipped, with 2 sinks, microwave, fridge, washing machine and tumble drier. There was a dining table too, which made for a civilised breakfast.
Very handily, Kilbride have also built a cafe on site. I imagine this is heaven for the weary and hungry camper. I didn't eat anything, having just a quick look at the menu, and it seemed standard fayre - hot breakfast rolls, macaroni and chips, perfect for carb loading.
There's a lovely little beach just across the road, and a place next door that sells eggs from the hens roaming about their garden, home made products such as jams and lemon curd, as well as crafted wool items. read more
