Really good Moroccan food in Avignon. Had to go back for a second meal. Sooo much food!

Delicious chicken couscous! Generous portion and reasonable prices. I didn't try dessert.

We had and outstanding meal at Le Riad while staying in Avignon. This was some of the best Moroccan food I've had and the service was equally good. Portions are quite large and I'd recommend if you order either cous cous or tagine dishes. The cous cous includes a bowl of cous cous, a vessel of a delicious vegetable stew, and whatever components your ordered (i.e. lamb, chicken, or kofta). My wife and I ordered the lamb tagine (superb) and a kofta cous cous and all together it was just too much food! We rounded out the meal with a light fruit salad and a glass of port. The waitstaff was friendly and patient and the restaurant decor really feels like stepping out of Avignon. I'd recommend Le Riad to anyone visiting the city. read more

was one of our best meals in Avignon. Was craving chicken and tagine and this place hits the mark. Large restaurant with good AC (happened to be there during a heat wave so looking for relief from the outdoors was important). Ordered the meatball tagine, chicken, olive and citrus tagine and lamb with apricot tagine. Each came with an order of coucous. All were wonderful, rich in flavor and delicious. The chicken cooked perfectly and was fork tender. The lamb equally well prepared and seasoned. The number of meatballs in the tagine is generous as there were also lentils, chickpeas and kalamata olives, which had a wonderful brininess, saltiness and complement to the rich meat. we started with the chef specialty - chicken pastilla. it was dusted with powered sugar and we think the shredded chicken was soaked in honey as there was this nice subtle sweetness to the pastry filled appetizer. So glad we ordered it! Also ordered the artichoke heart with citrus. Again, nice, light and refreshing. Always good and important to get some fresh veggies on vacation. Excellent food and service at a very affordable price. Our group shared a generous appetizer and had two different tangines - one lamb and one chicken. The meats were very tender and the vegetables were perfect and not mushy. The house wines were perfectly paired and it was overall very affordable. read more

Quite a change from the typical French meal. The restaurant specializes in Moroccan meals. Open for lunch and dinner the restaurant has a large indoor dining area, an a small dining area near the entrance. Our order was taken quickly. The starters were excellent. We shared a main course. The main courses can be quite generous. Overall a fun, excellent meal. read more

4.5 stars. I had the lamb couscous, and the lamb was some of the best that I've ever had. The couscous was really great, and the gravy and vegetables hidden underneath the couscous bowl accompanied it nicely. Wife's kafte couscous was quite enjoyable, but not as good as the lamb We got a bottle of the Lirac white wine (last page of the menu), and loved it;. although not a Pinot Blanc, It certainly tasted like one to us. Whoa! Delicious food! Came cause of The reviews and it did not disappoint! We ordered the assortment briwattes- aka Samosas and they were the most crispy I've ever had in my life - delicious! Super delicious, great service. If you are in Avignon and sick of French restaurant food this is definitely a great option. I've never had Moroccan food before but this was a treat. We had a bottle of wine, ordered some briwattes ( somosas ) then split a vegetarian couscous and kefta tajine. It was a ton of food for 2 but we ate until it was done. The ground meat briwattes we ordered were insanely delicious, hot, crispy, deep fried awesomeness. It came with some rustic bread that was soft and flavorful. The entrees we ordered were great, real comfort food, hearty. We saw many locals grabbing takeout from there who must know what's up. read more

Based on other reviews we ordered the vegetable couscous and lamb tagine. I believe this to be the perfect combination. Big chunky vegetables in a tasty broth. We returned a few days later and ordered different dishes and they failed to live up to the first two. It's in a really nice building that's a converted courtyard out of the way from the tacky tourist outdoor eateries. read more

I didn't necessarily expect to find such a fantastic Moroccan restaurant in Avignon, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Le Riad is located in an absolutely beautiful space right in the heart of the city, seemingly in an what was once a courtyard now with a glass roof and lovely old stone walls with Moroccan rugs and other decorations. The lamb tagine with apricots was the best tajine I have ever had (admittedly I have not been to Morocco, although it was on par or better than the food I've had in Paris), and convinced my girlfriend that she does in fact like lamb! We also ordered the special dorade (bream) dish, which was also fantastic. We didn't have a chance to try the wine, but it seemed like they had a nice selection of both local and Moroccan wines as well. Overall, I would highly recommend, and if I am ever back in Avignon I will be back. read more

This was, believe it or not, one of our favorite meals in France. Just go. Like, now. We ordered the vegetarian couscous and one of the beef tagines (I think it was the kafta), and were SO blown away at how flavorful everything was. We literally could not get enough. We weren't sure what we wanted for dinner, just something different from the night before. Le Riad definitely ticked that box and more. With a dining room creatively ensconced in an interior courtyard, the decorative rugs and soaring ceiling put us in the mood of something Moroccan immediately. The eggplant dip was tasty, although not the baba ganoush my tongue was desiring. The lamb with artichoke hearts tagine was amazing however, and my partner's mixed grill couscous with vegetables was very good and worth every euro.Service was friendly and very tolerant of our limited French language skills. Delicious chicken tagine! My husband enjoyed the lamb tagine, but the chicken was the real winner. Lovely room with Moroccan music playing and a gracious staff. The prices are very reasonable. The chickpea appetizer and bread were good, but not great, so I am giving it four stars rather than five. read more

We came here enticed by great reviews. My problem with this place is a horrible service. We came at 7 pm when there's nobody there. We ordered Le Riad Royal couscous and another meal. I asked the server (who said she was speaking English) how big the Royal was, she said "for one person". In fact it was huge and could have been easily split in two or even three. Then she brought the couscous dish set over a hot pot. I thought it was a heating pot and she did not say or gesture anything. In fact the "heating pot" was a pot full of vegetables stew. I was eating dry couscous with boiled meats (edible but nothing to rave about) and she would pass us several times and stay mum. On top of that, her colleague overturned a hot teapot and did not bring my husband a proper bowl to it his meal. Only after they cleared our table they discovered we did not touch the stew and the owner or manager came by asking why. He started laughing at us with other patrons. Needless to say, I felt stupid and uncomfortable though it was the staff's fault. The manager asked us to come again but I doubt I would. He took out the price of the tea though, I should say to be fair. read more

Amazing ambiance. Beautiful place, very friendly staff (who spoke English, a big plus). But either the vegetables were unusually soggy, or I just don't really like Moroccan food. Either way, wasn't my favorite meal out. read more
