I recently visited LE RAJ after watching the BBC programme on immigration. Have to say the programme was impressive and my wife and I had to visit after capturing a glimpse on TV it did look intriguing. Greeted by friendly staff that although didnt speak much english did certainly impress at our every need. The restaurant itself is beautiful very colonial decor, grand and elegant. My wife and I do love Indian food but we love to try different things everywhere we go and as this was our first time visiting. We really wanted to explore what they had to offer and whether we would come back for more! We ordered a chicken starter and the malai fish. It was divine, whilst it was Indian you could see the infusion of creamy cheesy sauce with the fish which made it very unique as we hadnt tried this before, definitely a favourite for my wife's. The chicken was ok, slightly bland but worked well. For mains we had a chicken tikka biryani, a tikka masala as ive heard so much about this dish and its innovation and also ordered king prawns and side of dhaal lentils and pumpkins we also had plain saffron rice which smelt amazing and beautiful soft naan that just melted in my mouth! Didnt go for dessert but did wash it all down with a few beers and the wife enjoyed a refreshing red wine recommended by the waiter. Overall the dishes were wonderful each to their own, great atmosphere although it was quiet it was a nice place to unwind and as for the price, fairly expensive but it is of the fine dine calibre so it was to be expected! The stars here say it all. As sloppy as it is when it happens, I can forgive a takeaway order being wrong. However, having driven home to find that two things were missing, I was then offered one free dish and 4 papadums (yes, showing they value the customer), which they explained I had to drive back to collect myself (no discount was mentioned, baring in mind my guests' food was almost cold). The killer blow was that, when I stated that I didn't feel that was enough and just wanted the £15 refunded for the exact cost of the missing food, I was flatly refused it. Illegal, surely? I threated with legal action and was told it would make no difference. That is honestly what they said. My friend drove back and spoke to them face to face about the injustice and was given the missing main dish and my £15 back. £63 down and a cold meal for four shocked people. Having read a few good reviews on this place, we thought we ought to get a take out. We have just moved to the area from East London so the bar may be set fairly high, nevertheless, you would still expect something half decent just out of Central London. We ordered online and when it came to pick-up, we were told that they dont check their online orders on a Sunday~(?!). so we had to wait. The curry was runny, bland, lacking in rich spice flavours. Was more like spicy baby food with the same appetizing consistency and dull colour. Does anyone know any good curry places in the Epsom area? Infact, does anyone know any good restaurants in this area?! If youre in East London, try the Lahore kebab house on commercial road or tayyabs.... Visited with my work colleagues, 4 of us last Friday. It was crazy busy. Heard good things about this restaurant being one of the best in Epsom and was chosen by my colleague as he visited a number of times. It was quite pricey but the food, atmosphere and drinks were of the higher end. Not your usual curry house style grub! It was very plush much more sophisticated and elegant. We had a great night and even got greeted by the owner and his sons, which added a nice touch, think my manager felt well looked after! I was born and brought up through all my study years in India. The food eaten in India, from the food in homes and restaurants to street food, is the role model for the top Indian restaurants in London. And all I would say is the food at Le Raj is better than the food eaten in India. I have taken some of my clients to renowned Indian restaurants at May Fair in London. This is the first time I have been to this restaurant, Le Raj, in Epsom Downs Surrey. I do have to say that I was very impressed with the venue itself, staff and quality of the food. On entrance to the restaurant their is a nice lobby beautifully decorated. The menu selection is extensive and I went for something I had not tried before and it didnt dissapoint. A fantastic Le Raj Epsom dining experience in a quality restaurant environment. Not cheap but worth every penny. After having read brilliant reviews about the food and being new to the area, this was the first takeaway we tried. Needless to say we were very disappointed. The food was below average and the sauce resembled more of a water consistency. A very strong onion taste lingered for days. First time here and it"s an absolute gem. Great service, amazing decor, and food was delicious. Great selection of starters and mains as well as a good wine list.
