In our continued quest to try new restaurants in Epsom, we had our first visit to Everest Spice this evening. The fact that it seemed to be a Nepalese restaurant instead if a standard Indian seemed promising, so off we went.
The interior is nice enough, and we were sat right by the front window even though we had neglected to book a table. The staff were all very courteous and talkative, and were quite welcoming when we mention this being our first visit. They were just a bit slow at times, but it was a busy Saturday night, so that's understandable.
Once we looked through the menu however, it became clear that this was still *mostly* an Indian restaurant, just with some Nepalese touches. For starters we ordered popadums which interestingly came in two varieties, and the only obvious Nepalese dish on the menu, the chicken momos, which were actually quite delicious.
For mains we just decided to share a fish curry and a few veggie sides. The curry was nice, and the fish was cooked quite well, though I probably could have done without the mustard seeds, and my wife didn't really care for it at all. The vege was fine, but not amazing.
As for drinks, my wife ordered a mango lassi, which seemed pretty tasty, and I tried one of their two Nepalese beers on the menu. It was pretty much just your average lager, though the label on the bottle was pretty sweet. They also have a decent wine list, full bar, and Kingfisher on draft.
So, all in all not a bad dining experience, and the Nepalese flair does add some interesting flavour combinations, though Sadiqah Spice and Blue Mint are probably better options if you're looking for Indian food in Epsom. read more
