Smoked meat and fries
Mark M.

For our second leg of our two week vacation, Pooh and I came to Chelsea, QC for the Spa Nordik. The ambiance was very casual and friendly staff. For lunch we came here. I started with a Bloody Caesar which was made with gin. Pooh had a pint of Chelsea rousse (red) I ate the classic nachos and Pooh had smoked meat sandwich. Pooh enjoyed his sandwich and fries The toppings on my nachos were fantastic. They were fresh and delicious. The nacho chips themselves were a bit chewy.

Located in old Chelsea in Gatineau is this beautiful pub with an amazing patio. It was a hot day, although rainy so we got a table just next to the patio but it was still covered. Old Chelsea itself is a beautiful area right next to the Nordik spa and next to Gatineau park. The old town is just breathtaking to walk around. The pub itself was lovely. We were created immediately and shown to our table. Our server was friendly and prompt. They serve your typical pub style food, so there is something for everyone. I got the Chelsea burger and my friend got the roast beef sandwich. I really enjoyed the fact you can get half salad and half fries as your side. You get a bit of both to satisfy your cravings. Overall, a wonderful lunch experience in a breathtaking area! 10/10 for me!

Food was delicious and very quick service. I was happy to go and will go again. The sandwich was great and the poutine was delicious

Loved this pub, we came here before visiting the Nodik spa. Duck confit salad was great mix of fresh veggies and delicious duck leg, and the portion was big! The original burger came with fries, which was hand cut and very crunchy! It's a big and juicy burger! Atmosphere was relaxing and cozy, good to be here with family or friends. Service is okay for English speaking customers though.

Love love this place. We have been twice in the month I've lived here (in Wakefield). I got the duck confit salad and It was amazing both times. I don't normally eat meat but this was done so well. My husband enjoyed a delicious rack of ribs and my daughter a fish and chips. They all raved about their food. The fries I could have passed on. And the drinks were amazing. Definitely go ahead and indulge, the bartender is awesome. We will keep coming back! We enjoyed sitting in the bar and outside.

Lamb shank shepherds pie - melted cheese and gravy on top - really good

This is an update to my review from 2020. Overall, another amazing experience! We visited Pub Chelsea after a day of xc skiing in Gatineau Park. Upon arrival, the place was packed (just like last time). But this time, instead of getting lucky with bar seating, we had to put our name on a list and were told it would be a 90-min wait! This was OK for us because we had actually had some snacks at the Relais Cafe inside the park, so we weren't starving, and the 90-min wait allowed us a chance to drive around the park and reconnoiter some of of the parking lots and other trail heads. The wait time was accurate, and right around the 90-min mark we were seated in the restaurant portion of the pub (versus the bar area). Our server was great - immediately joined us and brought menus and waters, and took our beverage order. Within a few minutes she was back with our beers and sodas and took our dinner order. Food came out without too much of a wait and was DELICIOUS. Here is what we ordered: --Smoked chicken salad - this was a really huge dinner plate full of a variety of lettuces and kale, with smoked chicken breast that really tasted fresh, juicy and smokey. It had these beautifully cut apples fanned out throughout, and had a light but tasty dressing. It was easily enough for multiple people to share; our friend who ordered this ate about a third and took the rest home (in a compostable container provided by the server). --Funky burger - this was a double-patty burger with camembert cheese, caramelized onions, a bbq style steak sauce and a great bun. Our friend who ordered this got it with a side of fries, which were fresh cut and crispy, but not seasoned. No problem, there was salt on the table; the entire thing was devoured. Note that fries are served with both ketchup AND mayo! --Chelsea burger - this was also a double-patty burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and raw onion, on that same bun. The burgers were cooked perfectly, and were very juicy and flavorful. The person who ordered this got it with a combo of side salad (really great small salad with different lettuces, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions and a vinaigrette-style dressing) and fries. The fries were fresh cut and crispy but needed salt. The mayo and ketchup were also great. --Lamb shank shepherd's pie - this was a large deep bowl filled with braised lamb, peas and carrots, covered in mashed potatoes, with both melted cheese and a gravy on top. It was piping hot, was a great portion size and was seasoned really nicely. Side note: While we were waiting, I asked if the pub had run out of anything that day, since it was so busy. The host let me know that they had a new chef who was excellent; a few months back, they were running out of things and the kitchen was not being run well. But with the new chef, there were new menu items, higher quality ingredients, and a focus on really living up to the 'gastro pub' reputation. We definitely felt like we benefitted from that as they had everything we wanted and it was all delicious and great quality. In my opinion, when you are skiing over at Gatineau, or visiting Old Chelsea, stopping by the Pub for a bite is a must-do!

Poutine x2. Nachos.

Conveniently located next to Nordik. Service was eh to English only speakers. Two poutines and a nachos was more than filling for a couple. Poutine was glorious. Nachos were hot and fresh. Would return to try different menu items.

4 stars out of 5 Have not been here for a long time so it was time for a visit. - I had their classic Chelsea burger & was tasty. I paired it w a salad. - I found though that my meal was a bit pricey. - the staff are relatively friendly - plenty of patio seating on the verandah of the pub and its perimeter

Still very pricy. Average 19 for a sandwich, 7 for the daily soup.... Nice rustic, log cabin vibe going on and they've done some updates on the place. For example they put up a brick wall to hide some of the mess they had in the back and they've added new restrooms downstairs. I can attest that the ladies' was very nice but it is a bit of a trek getting there (2 flights of stairs). Their menu is rather creative though. Butter chicken, piri piri sandwiches and a few more different staples than the usual fare. I had the spinach soup that was good but would have been so much better with a bit of milk or cream in it. It was advertised as cream of spinach but ours didn't have a drop in it. Also ordered the piri piri chicken sandwich that was very good. Their fries are fantastic, unfortunately, ours arrived cold. I also ordered a coke - totally flat, sent it back and asked for water but never got it.

Excellent patio, a nice place to soak up the sun! Great beer! We shared the "Assiette d'Ali Baba", which was hummus, olives, bread, and veggies. It was excellent! I also had a French Onion soup, it wasn't the best I've had but it was goWe will return again for sure!

This place is AWESOME. Ate here a couple months ago after snowshoeing in Gatineau park on a freeeeeezing cold day. I had the seafood linguine and it totally hit the spot. Who would've thought a pub would do pasta so well??? It seriously was one of the better pastas that I've ever had. I saw a lot of people ordering burgers and I definitely want to try those next time. Fries look delicious too.

For such a meager menu, I think that's duck overkill. Beef tartare comes in second being listed twice. Not being crazy over duck, I opted for the fish and chips and I have to give it to them, their's has got to be the best in the area. Their fish always just tastes so fresh and the batter is perfect. My husband had the duck salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite the place not being busy, service was slow. It's a great place, I just wish the menu was more varied and I wish to God that not every table in that place was a high top. A few regular tables scattered about would not go amiss.

Before this place wasn't so busy, but now it is hard to get a walk-in table. Be sure to call for reservations beforehand. I had and will always order their freaking amazing fish and chips that are cooked to a perfect golden brown crisp. Portion is quite large but I believe the price is very fair and can be split between 2 people with a smaller appetite. I will be posting a picture of the dish because the presentation is beautiful! Details about my dish: The fries are shoe string cut seasoned fries that are damn good. You get 3 filets of haddock that are never soggy with a perfect amount of crisp. The tartar sauce is paired with an alternative guacamole type spread that is equally as quite tasty. Ask for garlic mayo and it is great on the fish and chips or with the fries. There is a salad in the centre with mixed lettuce and a vinaigrette sauce that is also great... But not as great as the fish!

There's a larger patio in the back/side (separated by a wooden fence) with games, but we sat on the front patio and it was a lot more chill. We were a party of four and sat next to the fence. The table and chairs were a bit rickety and it was a pretty tight, so were thankful our server cleared our table often. My husband ordered a tall can of local City Goose California IPA and I ordered the grapefruit Old Fashioned. I thought the Old Fashioned was a nice refreshing change from a regular Old Fashioned, and not too strong. It had Bulleit Bourbon, Dolin vermouth, orange bitters, grapefruit juice, and smoked orange rind. Just what I was looking for on a hot summer day on the patio for someone like me, who isn't into super sugary drinks. Our friends had been a few times before and ordered the house fries. They're not just regular fries - they have honey chili, scallions, and sesame seeds. They were delicious and definitely meant for sharing. Our friends said the last order of fries they had were crispier, but my husband and I thought they were still quite crispy and more sticky than saucy, if that makes sense. They also ordered an off-menu garlic aioli with it, which I would absolutely recommend. What are fries without dip? On our friends' recommendation, my husband ordered the pulled pork croquettes. Even the server said it was one of their most popular menu items and that he wished they made a ton of them to eat like Timbits haha. They had beer-braised pulled pork, chimichurri, topped with house beer BBQ demi glace and scallions. I had a taste (of course), and they really were tasty. Nice and crispy on the outside and much meatier than I expected, with minimal breading, and not too salty. I ordered the salmon ceviche. I was worried that it would be cooked salmon (I've mistakenly made the assumption in the past that it was raw), but our server confirmed that it was true ceviche, with raw salmon that was "cooked" in the acidity of the citrus. It was 7oz of salmon, charred cobbed corn, plantain chips, and charred jalapeno. It also came with thinly sliced red onions and cilantro on top of the salmon, and, to my surprise, a side of mixed salad greens, as well as a citrusy green dressing. The jalapenos weren't spicy at all (no seeds other than one stray), and the corn was tasty, but I cut off the kernels so that it was easier to eat all together. It was the perfect light and refreshing meal for that day, yet still filling and extremely satisfying. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and attentive as well. The door to the indoor part of the restaurant was open, not sure if there's no air conditioning or they just chose not to turn it on. The washroom was clean but a very tight space, even for little ol' me. I would absolutely come back here!
