It's a cozy corner restaurant that has a better than decent drink selection and a rotating menu of seasonal dishes as well as a menu of favorites. My husband had the spare ribs and remarked that they were the best he's ever had in Europe (that's a high accolade). I had the burger and it was pretty good. The server/barkeeper was friendly and attentive and all of the other patrons seemed comfortable and relaxed. It was a great experience.

The pastas are undercooked, stick together making blocks you thought have forgotten since you left school cafeteria. There is chili pepper in the tomato sauce, not the little hint you could have like as a twist but the distinct flavor you would rather expect in Asian dishes... and it is coming with a big meatball, bland, so once more not the way a ragu is supposed to be. Finish this gloomy picture with emmental (or gruyere) cheese to definitively fall off track. Forget it.

I loved the burger and the accompanying fries, and even the side salad was good. Across our table, we must have gotten every dish on the brunch menu, and everyone was extremely happy with their food. The ingredients tasted very fresh, and the chef made some interesting and unexpected flavor combinations. So why only three stars? This place had the most horrendously rude service I've ever experienced in Brussels, and that's a high bar. We were yelled at collectively as a group, because we ended up having three extra people show up. Organizing big group events is hard enough without a server yelling at you, and they seemed very upset to have the extra business of three people. Several of us were yelled at separately, me for being in the server's way while waiting in line to pay, another for asking the status of the coffee she'd been waiting 20 minutes for, and several others for various things that should not have been issues at all. There were a few cases where the servers mixed up the orders or brought out dishes nobody had ordered, and they got mad at our table for that as well. Despite the inexcusable service, I would still consider going back, either by myself or maybe with one other person, in hopes that we would get better treatment. The food was that good.

I went there with two friends for the brunch on Saturday. We tried the oriental and French brunch. Very filling and tasty. The service is also excellent and very friendly. One of my friends being pregant and having some food allergies, they adapted the menu without complaining and for a very good price. I would highly recommend this place and will defenitely go back to try different brunches and check their lunch menu as well.

Spaghetti bolo for breakfast? Hell yeah!…read more After a morning jaunt through the flea market where I snatched up a fab porcelain pastry plate for 2E, my local host suggested a mid-morning snack at this 100% authentic Belgian café. As soon as we walked through the door my heart started to flutter. The wood paneled restaurant with its large central Zinc bar, gruff but friendly waiters, formica table tops with little napkin dispensers looks like it hasn't budged in 50 years. In a word: adorable! After examining the menu thoroughly I settled on the house specialty of spaghetti bolo and a café russe to wash it all down. An incongruous blend, I know, but hey, in a 24hr Belgian diner anything goes. Needless to say the bolo was like nothing I've ever had. Served over slightly overcooked vermicelli and topped with grated gruyere, the peppery, chunky bolognaise sauce had a regressive, quirky, heartiness to it that made the whole dish super fun to eat. If I lived in BXL I could see La Clef d'Or becomming a regular post flea market spot.

The advantage for the sandwich bar is that they offer some tasty choices with ingredients coming straight from the kitchen. You can enjoy an "Attica", a breaded fried pork cutlet with aubergine, courgette and parmesan cheese, tomato and lettuce. Or you might also want to try the special pan-fried cod or meatloaf sandwiches. All are original and tasty. They also offer pasta with a pesto or bolognese sauce in a takeout box, and of course do the traditional range of sandwiches you find everywhere. Attica is a greek place, the restaurant does a decent mezze and serves some good grilled meats. They also have tasty burgers which are worth mentioning, and a generally very enjoyable mix of other dishes on offer. Service was friendly both times I was there for a proper sit-down, though a bit slow at times considering it was for lunch. The restaurant is reasonably big and serves good food without it ever being exceptional. But when you combine to the excellent sandwich bar this makes for a good address to aim for around lunch.
