I am a little hesitant to write this review, because it has been several years since I ate here. But nobody has reviewed it yet, and I had such a wonderful meal, so ...
We ate here for lunch, during the summer (most likely June, but maybe July). I honestly can't tell you exactly what my wife and I ate, simply that we loved everything about the meal and that the menu was fairly traditional, with many local specialties. As I said, it's been several years and we both still have a very fond memory of the meal. We actually say, whenever the subject of heading back to the Luberon region comes up, "We MUST go back to the Pantagruel when we are there". The food was delicious, the service was very good without being ostentatious, and the price was quite reasonable (not cheap, and not expensive - I'd *guess* between 20-25 euros each for lunch). The ambiance is also wonderful - the restaurant is in a very old building (I'd guess 1600s-1700s) that has quite a bit of charm.
One thing I'll never forget: the restaurant was curing ham - a leg of ham. There was a small wood fire burning in the fireplace, and the leg of ham was hanging on a string in front of the fire. Every time a waiter would go by the leg he would give the leg a little spin, so that it would slowly spin, thus drying the ham without overheating it on any one side. That went on the entire 90 minutes of our meal. Quite traditional curing method.
I'm torn between a 4* and a 5* review. I have had better meals in France - but they were generally much, much more expensive. In terms of "absolute rating" of the meal, it's probably four. But in terms of what you get for the money you spend, it's a five star. read more
