Surprised to be the first review for 'D Spot Dessert Cafe' as this has been a raving new trendy…read moredessert spot. For a first timer the menu is a little overwhelming as the options range from diner food, multiple dessert options, and hot/cold drinks. That being said, the server was very welcoming but did not offer any suggestions or recommendations to their menu. Apart from that, the ambience is very open and has a very 'retro diner' look with lots of booths. Being a new place there were not many people seated and walk in orders seem to be more preferred. If you are debating on a good and quiet time to go, I had arrived late into the evening at 8 pm and the service was still really prompt. I had ordered the 'Cookie Butter Croffle' and also wanted to try their House brew coffee. I was sharing with a friend and the portion sizing was pretty good for a light bite between the two of us. There were 2 croffles and 1 vanilla ice-cream cup on the side. The croffle was warm and not too sweet when paired with the icecream it was delicious! Almonds and biscoff bits for a nice little crunch and the layers of the croissant were very buttery. Would recommend if you like a lighter dessert as it hit the right spot without making me feel like I'm eating too much sugar. The coffee was straight from the pot and unfortunately did not receive a sleeve for it upon arrival but other than that the coffee was alright. My other friends loved their desserts just like I had and we were overall satisfied with our individual dishes! For a first timer I definitely will be coming back. This place is open late into the evening so if you ever have a late night sweet tooth I would definitely recommend it here as it really hit the spot!

The cashier was friendly though and the moon garlic toast with an egg and mozzarella was uniquely delicious and interesting to my adventurous tastebuds. It could have been made and crafted in a less messy way but it had so much flavour that I was mesmerized and I couldn't stop eating it. The mozzarella and cheddar slices were yummy melted on the scrambled egg. I could taste the herbs in the mayonnaise as well and something else, a type of minty mild chipotle. If you love trying new experiences for your tastebuds I recommend this place. The Moon Toast was also filling and it warmed me up. The macaroon was perfectly delectable and filled with a lot of filling. The Taro bubble tea was just ordinary but still yummy.

The ingredients say that rhubarb is part of this soft vanilla pudding type of cake but I could only taste the strawberries. Funny enough it's very close to where I live, but I've never went there until recently because of how tucked in the location is. Their ice cream is reasonable in cost. You can even mix and match with the flavours if you go for snack size. I had the chocolate fudge brownie with a blueberry cheesecake in a cup. Funny thing what happened was one of the employees broke a waffle cone by accident, so she decided to give me the waffle cone on the side for free. I'm normally not a waffle cone person, but I liked the slight sweetness of the taste. As for the ice cream...yup, I like it. The blueberry cheesecake was VERY cheesy, and the chocolate tastes exactly like chocolate (lol). I definitely like it over BDI at least. Wish the seating area was a tiny bit more comfortable, but on a nice summer day this place would be the bomb for excellent ice cream.

I know Winnipeg has a lot of great places to get a hamburger so I asked for a recommendation from…read moremy aunt who I was visiting. She recommended the Dreamland Diner. So driving back from the Banjo Bowl, I decided to try it out. It was somewhat busy but I was immediately sat in a booth and left with the menu. My eyes are usually bigger than my stomach and I have a habit of ordering more than I can eat. So to play it safe I ordered their smallest burger, the Junior which is basically a double cheeseburger , onion rings, and a milkshake. They had quite an extensive milkshake menu with various flavours and toppings. This was the most difficult decision I had to make so I went with a bubblegum milkshake with marshmallow topping. May sound off putting to some but it was very good. I didn't have to wait long at all for everything to arrive and tucked right in. The onion rings, more Dairy Queen style opposed to A&W, were a bit over done and lukewarm as though they had been sitting for a while. I only ate a few. The burger itself was good. I'm a big fan of using Kraft single cheese slices for burgers as they melt much better than most "gourmet" or exotic cheeses some places use. The patty was a little dry and could have used some seasoning but they mixed diced onions into the meat which added some texture to it. To my surprise I actually finished the whole burger. Surprised not because it wasn't good, it was, but because, like I stated earlier, I'm not a big eater but I left the onion rings behind. Overall it was a good experience. Service was fine. I probably wouldn't go back by myself but if I was with people and they suggested it I wouldn't say no.

They are the perfect size for events, reasonably priced, and come in a wide variety of flavours--honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. The ordering process was simple, and everything was packaged very well for pickup. The cheesecakes themselves were not overly sweet, which we really appreciated, and the texture was rich and creamy. One thing we didn't fully plan for was that they need to be kept frozen, which made transport a bit stressful--but they held up perfectly. Despite the heat on the wedding day, they stayed in great condition and served beautifully. Our guests absolutely loved them, and we received so many compliments throughout the night. We would definitely order from Double D's again for any future event.

Friendly service with old-school vibes, but just be mindful of long lines here. The long lines are not necessarily a complaint, though -- it means the place is a must-hit! It a favourite place for locals and tourists to drop by during warmer weather. A couple of years after I had moved to Winnipeg, a friend of mine took me to BDI. She had a car and I did not at the time. There is parking available, but it does get busy. I last visited Winnipeg in July 2016. I had no problem nabbing a parking spot at around 7 pm. BDI is on Jubilee Avenue. It faces the Red River. There are a few benches where you can enjoy your dairy treat, which is what my friend and I did. There is also a pedestrian bridge that goes over the river if you'd like to take a stroll. When I was last there, I lined up to get a soft-serve cone. This place has plenty of flavour varieties and some specials each day. I was pleased to see vegan options. BDI's most famous flavour is the Goog. It's essentially an upside-down blueberry shake, with a hot fudge sundae and bananas. I believe it comes with whipped cream, too. I love the Saltzberg, which is a Nutella-filled waffle cone with vanilla ice cream, is dipped in chocolate, and has caramel drizzle, sea salt, and whipped cream on top. I realize why I have never walked across the pedestrian bridge with an ice cream delicacy. It's messy to eat and I'm not coordinated enough to eat anything at BDI and walk without a major disaster happening to my ice cream treat. No one wants to see me cry. I ordered a cool lemon soft-service ice cream cone when I was last here. I typically get sprinkles, but decided to try it without them. I love lemon and the ice cream was so creamy. The lemon was bright and refreshing. The cone was perfect. I liked the maple leaf wrap around the bottom of the cone. That evening, it was pouring rain. I had a car rental and no umbrella. I ended up enjoying my ice cream in the car. There was still a steady customer lineup, which shows that folks will come out for yummy ice cream regardless of what Mother Nature has in mind. When I was last here, you could only pay by cash. I'm not sure if it's still the case. For those who love ice cream year-round, there is a BDI store at Kildonan Place now. Yay! I hope to return and get my ice cream fix at BDI when I'm back in Winnipeg. (129)
