I went here in April (it was a surprise birthday dinner - thanks guys!!). I'd been a couple of…read moretime just for cocktails and had mentioned that I really wanted to try the food as well.
For cocktails, this place is great fun. There are two basic cocktails (I think it is mojito and caipirinha) which are embellished in different ways with fruits, spices, syrups, herbs etc. Then each cocktail is decorated with a totally kitsch lolly, like those yupi mini hamburgers, or a tiny clear plastic box with m&ms. The cocktails themselves are really good and very interesting. I usually put the lolly to the side, even though I think it's kind of cute, since it doesn't seem like a good idea to eat something so sweet when they put effort into making the cocktails good. But then I'm pretty sure that I or someone ate the lollies.
For food, you really need to book in advance, at least for a Friday or Saturday night. It gets really crowded. The food is very interesting and I appreciated that they put a lot of effort into the flavours and presentation and into making it original. The lemon Meringue dessert is beautiful to look at, but I found it a touch too sweet and too big to finish after an entree and main. So I would just go for two courses at this place. I cna't remember what I had for those two courses, probably due to the amount of cocktails we had, but I do remember that someone's tartare was amazing.
In lieu of a birthday cake, the guy at the bar prepared an enormous gummy Bart Simpson on a black slate, complete with a birthday candle stabbed into the side of the mouth like a cigar. Awww.
Be prepared to wait a long time for your cocktails, since they are a little complicated to make. And if you go late at night, not for big groups, unless you are happy to split into groups of 2 and 3.
But overall a happy place that I'm keen to try again.
