Walking inside this specialty butcher shop is a treat, you are visually stimulated with the colors,…read moreshapes and aromas of fresh meats, cured meats, grocery items, prepared foods, etc. You can get Wagyu beef, sirloin, T-bones, pork chops, veal, etc...you can take some already prepared kebobs or sides home to finish off...all made with excellent spices and marinates. The owner, Patrick Loyau, owner of this butcher shop in the Jean-Talon market, knows how to make a business succeed. He bought the premises on rue Mozart in 1994, at the age of 24. When he opened the store, he was not yet a butcher.... his employees taught him everything....so hiring the right people is always the best strategy for a good enterprise. For nearly 20 years, this small butcher's shop has many loyal customers that do not hesitate to weave their way between its crowded aisles in exchange for its quality products (such as its famous marinated flank steak) and the friendly service of its personnel. We stopped for sandwiches at this boutique butcher shop. Rustic trendy decor with beautiful wood,…read moreexposed brick, open-case fridges, floor to ceiling glassed-in butchery, and a tiny eating counter with three barstools. No bathroom. We split the Philly steak sandwich with Angus beef and tender mushrooms, and some other veggies, served hot. The other was smoked turkey and pesto, with spicy peppers and eggplant served on crusty bread, served panini style. We asked for no cheese (personal preference). These sandwiches were next level! Worth every penny from this bougie place we wouldn't normally go to. Sandwich perfection and friendly service. We shared a Zam Cola which was better and less chemically than Coke. Kinda like Brio. Yummy. We will be back with family from the USA for this European style experience.

Hands down best steaks in town!…read more I always pick up steaks here just before I take off for camping. Nothing beats a fresh grilled steak in the wilderness. Gotta give it to them they really do have a great selection of steaks with amazing marbling. It's always so juicy and amazing. The cool part is that they have pre made food like chimichurri brochettes, bbq ribs and souvlakia for easy grilling. The pret a manger selection at the counter is packed with goodies like (shepherds pie, Cesar salad and onion soup) I noticed that they actually have beer and wine here and they are all Quebec local brands. I love that they keep it local good eats and good drinks.

After brushing him aside, I looked at the wall of dried sausages hoping to spot my prize. I wanted to bring home a nice selection on the plane home to Vancouver. Wait! What the??? again. Staring back at me was a nice coating of blue mold around one of the ends of the sausages. Au Revoir!

As others have said, they also make sandwiches to go, which one can choose to eat at their little parcel shelf next to the door. The appeal of this place for me, though, is the partially-smoked and cured pork shoulder rolls they keep in the small cold case along the back wall. They're not even labelled, so you may have to ask to be pointed at them. But do ask. One of those balls of meat, simmered in a cauldron of water for 150 minutes, yields both the most densely-flavored, tastiest cold pork you'll ever put on your sideboard, and a pot of truly magnificent stock for your next pea or white bean soup. They also sell a couple of different varieties of bacon, in slabs if you wish. And there is no question too stupid for the bright lady in the baseball hat behind the cash. This is another of those little places that makes cooking my way through a Montreal winter into something I almost look forward to in summer.

Remember that movie 'Hot Tub Time Machine"? If someone ever decided to make a film called "Poultry…read moreShop Time Machine" then this is the place to film it. Seriously, walking in I suddenly felt like I was transported to the food shops I used to go to with my mom back in the 1970s as a kid in small-town Quebec. With Montreal Canadians and vintage Quebecois memorabilia, it's really not hard to imagine what a real Mom and Pop stores on Main Street used to look like before giant supermarkets and mega stores drove them out of business. This place has absolutely everything to address your poultry needs and then some. The chickens are all grain-fed and sourced locally in Quebec. I haven't tried the sausages yet but they sure looked tempting. You'll get the same quality of meat here as you would as more expensive locations at Atwater Market or Jean Talon Market - minus the insane markups. I'm glad Verdun still has many shops like these.

This place is another hidden gem in Verdun. This family-run butcher specializes in beef and…read morechicken, and it's really really good. It's decked out with random memorabilia, and the window features a different record label (and quote) each week - this has got to be the butcher with the most character in the province! My favourite thing to get from here is the bambi (cerf) sausages - I can't recommend them enough! They have a wide selection of home-made sausages, and all the ones I've tried have been great. The chicken they sell is grain feed and from Quebec, so it's the good stuff. They also have a selection of cheeses and pates, which are nice to round-out a meal. Another thing I like to go there for is their marinated steaks, all of which are good (my favourite is the spicey one). They also have minced horse meat, which is great for burgers. If you're in the neighbourhood or live not to far, and want fantastic quality meats, then you need to come here.
