I looked at…read morethe menu online before going and was excited to see they had a gluten free slice of cake and cold brew. When I arrived, the young lady working behind the counter was extremely pleasant. She was also patient with my need to speak English, as french is the dominant language. Unfortunately the cold brew was out and she offered me an iced americano, which I accepted. Truthfully, I really wanted to like it because she was so sweet but I really didn't care for it at all. It was completely melted and there was no ice left, by the time I got to the car. It was also vanilla, but I didn't care for the syrup they used. Second, they didn't have any gluten free options for sweets. She mentioned that sometimes they have a gluten free brownie but they didn't that day. It was very disappointing. My husband got the last chocolate croissant, so he was happy. I wouldn't return to this coffee shop but I'm sure others had a more positive experience.

You order inside at the café and they bring your order to your table. You can take a container of utensils, napkins and a jug of water with you. We ordered the blueberry turnover and blueberry chocolate croissant with coffees to start. Coffee was great and the pastries were excellent. The blueberry turnover was flaky and the croissant had a generous portion of filling! As main dishes we ordered the melon soup, the zucchini salad, the porchetta sandwich, the BLT toast off the lunch menu. The highlight dish for me was the zucchini salad. It was dressed in this aioli type of vinagrette and the dollops of ricotta make the Zucchini so silky and delicious. It was just the perfect dish for lunch on the terrasse un the sun! The porchetta sandwich was my second favorite, it was buttery, herby and the chunks of porchetta were well seasoned. Desserts were awesome! The ice cream sandwich is a must order! The chocolate chiffon cake was very good but it's simple. All the dishes have many layers to them and I thought the chiffon cake would too. Fantastic lunch at cafe Hélico! just like Helicoptère, it is absolutely worth the trip to Hochelega!

It is located in a very nice area with a beautiful market near it which is perfect for walks, especially during the summer. The coffee shop itself is beautiful, very nice seating area and a lot of space. It is perfect if you want to study because it's very cosy, but it's also good if you're grabbing lunch quickly or coffee on the go. I have tried their smoked salmon sandwich and a kale/beet salad which were both very delicious. The only issue I had was the price, I thought it was a bit pricier than other coffee shops or places where you can grab lunch quickly. Despite that, I can understand since it's a local coffee shop and everything they have is high quality and fresh. Their iced coffee is more of an iced cappuccino with crushed ice... So if you want something liquid like coffee with ice, I would recommend getting an iced latte. It was delicious, and they had a lot of options for people like me who are lactose intolerant (almond milk, soy milk, lactose-free, coco milk, oat milk, etc.) The staff is extremely nice. They're very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. The first time I went there, the girl explained everything to me and how the café started and she looked very passionate which showed me that she liked her job. The only issue I'd have with this place is their opening hours. During the winter, if you're planning on late-night studying there, it doesn't open as late as other coffee places, but that's to be expected with local coffee shops like this one.

The Long Version: Hectare Cafe is located in a mini food hall called Le Coin Gourmand in Old Montreal. I was at One Babo in the same food hall getting a bubble tea and since my husband does not like bubble tea and is a coffee fiend, he popped into Hectare Cafe to get his third coffee of the day (!) He got a small Americano ($4). It came in a cool-looking paper cup that looked like a takeout container (see my photo). He enjoyed it and said it was delicious. I had a taste and it was ok, lol, but I'm not a coffee connoisseur and I don't like my coffee black the way he does. He said service was friendly. The food hall is cute.
