Towards the end of summer while staying at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello, my family selected the "all you can eat" BBQ at Le Grill for a celebratory dinner. The weather had improved, so service had shifted back to its regular tented outdoor terrace space.
The grilled meats and fish/seafood were all great, all well-prepared: Beef Medallions, Dry Rub Pork Ribs, Seasoned Fish du Jour, Smoked Chicken Drumsticks, Sausage de la Fermi Moreau, plus my favorites the flavorfully seasoned Marinated Shrimp as well as Lamb Chops with Thyme, Caraway Seeds, Cumin, and Fennel Seeds. There were 3 additional sauces, if you wanted them: Pepper, Chimichurri, and a House BBQ. Yes, the Corn Bread, Sweet Pickles, Salad, Potatoes, Polenta, and Grilled Vegetables were good too, but let's be clear - this menu is about the carnivore!!!
Given how stuffed everyone was, the assorted desserts were ok, but more an anticlimactic afterthought - Lemon Brownie, Grilled Pineapple with Maple, Chocolate Verrine, a Sweet Potato and Orange Tartelette, and a Raspberry & Lime Oat Bar. By the time we were ready for them, many of us risked taking on even a "wafer-thin mint."
A fair price for a filling and satisfying meal, especially for the occasion and how my family eats. That being said, when heading for the BBQ at Le Grill, some considerations to note:
1) The one nearby overhead space heater was suboptimal for parts of the table as it became chiller that night.
2) Our table was farther away from the grill, so at times it was a little bit of a challenge getting the servers attention.
3) As the night advanced and even as other customers dispersed, it seemed the intervals between server visits was increasingly stretched out. My family had a tendency to make our dinner reservation on the later end of the dinner window in Québec, i.e., 8 vs 6:30, not just here but also in Montréal. Perhaps that time can be out of synch with how restaurants here handle their peak dinner service flow. When planning your evening, keep that in mind.
