I had a really great meal at Le Galopin on a recent trip to Rennes. I will go with a well deserved round-up 5-star rating for Le Galopin. The restaurant has been there since 1965 ... and it easy to see why. Classic and high quality are two ways to describe Le Gaopin. I have been visiting Rennes for work for 15 years or more and I am not sure how I missed this place. The restaurant is in the same class as Taverne de la Marine, however, the food is more classic French + offers plenty of seafood. I visited with work colleagues and we were a party of 12. The staff had no problems taking care of our large group and the service was exceptional. The head waiter had been working there 20 years! Le Galopin is in downtown Rennes and it is not too far from the train station. Parking was a little tricky, as I could not find the close by Charles de Gaulle parking area. In the end, we valet parked. Le Galopin has a simple and understated decor and a very nice ambiance. There are a few different "set menus" you can choose from. These "set menus" are popular in France, and something I like. They do offer menus in English, in addition to French ones, ... if you need/want that. I have posted a picture of an English menu. Regarding the food (and the most important part of my review!), our party ordered 4 seafood platters and they looked awesome. I ordered the confit canard for my main course and it was spot on. Others in my party ordered the veal and lamb. I also ordered the crepes with grand mariner flambé (crepes Suzette) for dessert and they were a total "10". Everyone in our party was happy with their meals. All in all ... two thumbs up for Le Galopin. I will be back. read more
