After finding the Tolbiac station we headed up to the Latin Quarter, and it is there we found this friendly haven. We missed the lunch "formulae" which looked pretty good, but settled for a bottle of wine and grilled chicken club sandwiches. When they came out, I forgot to tell the waiter to not toast the bread, but there is a big difference between the bread in the U.S. and the bread in France...French bread is way better. The bread was perfectly toasted but not with that hard crunch. There was also sliced hard boiled egg along with lettuce and tomatoes. A great club that was definitely French. Frites came out in these cute little fry baskets, which seem to be a fad at some of the restaurants. The waiter was friendly and commented that he would love to go to California and visit San Francisco. This was a great place to grab a meal, or to sit and drink wine if that's what you'd like to do!

It's relatively kid friendly which is a huge plus while traveling with my toddler and today there was another toddler and parents starting their day off there as well. Generally though, the customers are a mix of locals who live or work around there. As a tourist, I also appreciate that it's pretty English language friendly, in particular if the owner Romain is around to assist. The menu has various staples you'd expect at a typical Parisian brasserie and a full drink menu from coffee to wines. Between the good food, atmosphere and value it all adds up to a place I really enjoy while in Paris.

I also got homemade mayonnaise and a Dijon mustard. The bistro was full of locals who seemingly enjoyed their meal and the company as much as we did.

Of note, our party had the Smiley burger (double with fried egg), two Original burgers and the Caesar salad with grilled chicken; all were large portions and excellent in flavor and quality. A bit on the pricy side (but what place isn't, these days), but decent food. We went once for dinner, and once for a snack and drinks. (My husband also went for a drink one evening while I was resting in our hotel.) For dinner, my husband had steak and I had salmon, with some wine, of course. The restaurant is open quite late, and I was afraid the noise and music would disrupt us, as it was right under our hotel. To my surprise, I heard nothing -- either because the hotel was very soundproof, or the restaurant just wasn't obnoxiously loud late at night (whenever possible, I try and avoid hotels that are over restaurants or bars). They play sports on the TV inside, and it is warm and cozy. Not to mention, the prices are insanely good, and the portion sizes are huge! A very satisfactory meal. The cappuccino was creamy and rich, setting a great tone for the rest of the meal. The ham was very fresh and umami, pairing great with the bread. The meat of the day was a steak, which was tenderly cooked and juicy. The French onion soup was tangy and savory, although I will say that the cheese could have been melted in a little more. We had been looking for frog legs at multiple restaurants, and finally got to try here. The size of the frogs was on the smaller end, but they gave plenty in one portion. Since the legs were fried, they were quite crispy, and the shell was seasoned well although the flavor didn't sink in that much into the actual frog leg meat (slightly bland but the meat was super tender). The star of the show were the mussels! The picture doesn't do it justice but the bowl was HUGE. Every time I felt like we were done with all the mussels, we'd dig through the sauce at the bottom and find a couple more. The taste of white wine was evident in the broth, and the mussels were fresh, chewy, and tender. We ended the great meal with the creme brulee, which was satisfying to crack the top and smooth and delicate on the interior. On the way out, we had left a hat inside, and the owner had ran after us to return it. Very kind people and great food to go along with it - recommend!!
