My wife and i wandered in on a Tuesday night. The service was very friendly and the food was quite good. Their specialty is moule and frites. There are other things on the menu if you're not into mussels and fries, but the mussels were the best I've ever had. We chose the white wine sauce. The two of us split a mussel order, which was fairly large. Other choices are available: Provencal, cream and curry. We plan to go back and sample the other sauces as well. The frites were very good also. Wine choices were pretty limited, but the house wine, an inexpensive French chardonnay, was pretty decent. I highly recommend this restaurant. Inexpensive. ---- After a second and third visit, mussels are always good. Frites, however, on follow-up visits were a bit 'soft', with not so appealing a texture as the first time. read more

My husband and I visited Le Comptoir for the first time on Saturday night after wanting to go for some time. The only reason why I'm not giving this restaurant five stars is because the decor leaves a lot to be desired. You're basically eating traditional French food in what looks like diner/coffee shop with a lot of neon in it. The menu screams out for a dimly lit cafe and one wonders why the owners chose to decorate the interior in the way that they did. It is not relaxing at all, however I did feel right at home watching the Olympic finals of the Men's Platform diving event! Onto the most important part, which is the food. My husband had been wanting traditional Moules Frites for some time and he was more than pleased with what he got - a heaping bowl of mussels in traditional white wine sauce with crispy fries in the side. Add his complimentary glass of wine (or beer, if you choose) and he was in heaven. There are three other sauces you can get, but why mess with the original? I decided on the Salmon with Lentils and was not disappointed. The salmon was presented over a huge bowl of lentils with cream sauce on either side. The sauce really pulled the dish together and the salmon was cooked perfectly. The portion of lentils was kind of too much, but I'm sure it's perfect if you're really hungry. While we waited for our entrees we received a steaming basket of cut up French bread. Service was pleasant if a bit slow. There was one gentleman waiting on all of the tables, which made service drag just a bit. However, he was very nice and was aided in serving by another man who was also nice, but didn't seem to speak too much English. Overall, we loved the food and will certainly be back, especially because it's right down the street from Vino and they are on restaurant.com! Just wish they could update the decor. read more

My wife and I tried to have dinner here on Saturday night. I checked their website which was pretty poor to see if we had to make reservations. Could not find anything posted. So we showed up around 8:00 PM and yep you needed a reservation. It would have been nice if their site said so. The Bar Person said we could come back after 9:30. We were not going to eat that late. Since the place was not really inviting as it was pretty dingy, we went someplace else. I don't think we will try again. There are several other French Restaurants in the area to have dinner at. Yes, I liked this place, but brasserie, not quite. Bistro is more like it and filled with every variety of gimmick you can imagine. I would love to take $250,000 and do a Gordon Ramsey on it. I must say the food is quite good and way below what the average French restaurant is charging. I lived in France for years and have never seen anyplace quite as "odd" looking as this and the help is a little odd as well, but that won't keep me away since the food is the thing here and it shines. It's not gourmet, but it's very good for what we get here in the swamp that passes as French. It would be fun to turn it into Lipp, but we would need to move to Paris and with their financial mess who could afford it? read more

Food: Good, but nothing to get overly excited over. Had escargot which was good. I had the salmon with lentils which was delicious and worth the price (around $19, fair). My S.O had the rib eye, which was decent. It tastes like it was char - grilled which was unexpected and not what we wanted. For a French place I was expecting a more buttery pan-seared flavor. I would go again for the salmon dish. Also, the drink menu was sad. We're beer enthusiasts, and the closest they had to french beer was Stella, which doesn't count. Beer and wine list was very limited. Who goes to a French restaurant to drink Corona?! Service: good, but slow. While the waitress and hostess were very kind and attentive, it took about 45 min from sit-down to eating. That was unreasonably slow considering that more than half of the tables were empty. We didn't bother with dessert because we felt it would take too long. Ambience: the place needs serious face lift. Decor from the 80s, dim lights and very low volume music (which was bad--some of it cheesy cover bands). I'm not looking for a night club, but they could learn a thing or 2 from the neighboring restaurants. By the time I finished my main course, I was falling asleep. I might go again. read more

Fiancee and I came here on the advice of stellar Yelp reviews and little other consultation. The restaurant was almost completely empty at 8PM on a Saturday, admittedly in the dead of summer (low season around here). Normally this is a warning flag to us but we had read so many glowing Yelp reviews. We ordered escargot as an appetizer, they were very average and run-of-the-mill, and served in-shell - which is traditional but not diner friendly. There was no sauce on these escargot, and they needed some. Next was the mussels, the sauce was essentially made completely of onions and little else, it completely overpowered any taste the mussels could carry on their own, look instead to Giorgio's Bakery on the beach for a proper mussel dish in this town . The chicken cordon bleu was acceptable, but ham, chicken, copious breading and cream aren't hard ingredients to make tasty in anyone's kitchen, this is a gimme. The french fries were pretty decent but not any better than places who don't brag about their fries. Salad was also decent. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive, but the food we were served has NOTHING in common with these other glowing Yelp reviews. This restaurant might be worth a try, but I wouldn't bet it on a large party, there's a rather limited selection of dishes and picky eaters won't find a full set of options here (that's neither here nor there). read more

You can believe the reviews, this is a great restaurant. The menu is slightly limited, a lot of steak dishes, chicken a few fish, and Duck Orange. The mainstay are the mussels done in a few different ways, delish, served with excellent fries. The service was friendly and they won't let you be there without bread (my weakness). I ordered the Tilapia and I was very happy with it. Although I should have ordered the mussels since everybody else seemed to ordered those. Les Pomme Frites (French fries) were a little salty for my taste but still I finished them all. I also ordered the onion soup but pretty much I like onion soup regardless of where it is prepared so I was happy with it. As for service the native French hostess was exceptionally friendly and helpful, later I found out she was in fact the chief's/owner's daughter so this is truly a family run business. Well Le Comptoir topped our charts and expectations. The decor was so funky, service outstanding and the food was to die for. We ordered the French onion soup, I had the ground beef steak w/ a yummy egg on top and we shared an enormous overflowing bowl of mussels. To say that this family owned and run restaurant is a Parisian gem, is to completely under sell them. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined to find such a uniquely authentic French restaurant in S. Florida of all places. Absolutely everything from the escargot that we had as an appetizer to the mussels and entrecôte that we had as our entrée to the crème brûlée for dessert were all homemade and exquisite. The bottle of wine we had was a French red and a great value at around $20. This truly authentic Parisian spot is on our top 5 favorite restaurants in South Florida. This little family-owned small business is a must! I have been over 10 times and I am highly satisfied every single time!!! From the pork chops, to the frog legs, to any of the 8 sauces of mussels, to the sole, or the cordon blue, and starting off with the tuna tar tar, every dish that I have had here is absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was a little confusing since this is a French place but had a American diner look. Needs renovation but it gave this place a unique feel. We had frog leg salad and escargot to start, both had great presentation but to much garlic and parmesan. Blue cheese muscles were great make sure to ask for extra bread so you can dip in the sauce which was amazing. Simply put, Le Comptoir is excellent! I regularly dine at this establishment and in addition to being consistent in terms of quality and flavor of food, the service is always outstanding. My favorite item on the menu are the mussels (I love the curry, blu cheese and Dijon style), served with homemade french fries (so hot...so fresh...so good). For dessert, I enjoy the Nutella crepe, but I hear the banana flambé with rum is out of this world (I'll definitely try this on my next visit)!!! Also note, a free glass of wine is served with any order of mussels (although I usually skip the free glass and indulge in a few glasses of champagne, served in an ice cold flute....love that). Of course, while other restaurants in the area serve mussels, Le Comptoir is far and above the best as they specialize in this delicious dish, always using fresh ingredients (the proof is in the taste, simple as that). Bottom line.....going elsewhere for a steamy fresh pot of delicious mussels would be a mistake. Don't make a mistake! As for the service, the staff is pleasant, attentive and very polite. But, the five stars reflect the mussels in the style I had. The sauce was terrific. The mussels were plump. If the other dishes are like this one, then this place is clearly ahead of the competition. What a wonderful experience! My wife and I decided to go out to dinner despite the covid 19 pandemic. Arriving at this fabulous French cuisine restaurant and was greeted by a beautiful young lady wearing her mask and were seated away from other patrons. The service was wonderful only being out done by the perfection of the taste and presentation of the meal. The mussels were cooked perfectly followed by delicious crepes for dessert. This place was excellent. After reading many reviews, we used a restaurant.com certificate but even without the prices were very very reasonable for the quality of food. We had the French onion soup which was good, and the cordon bleu was also good but the star of the night were the bleu cheese mussels. We dipped the bread in the sauce and it was divine. Excellent. The place is quiet (probably because no one has heard of it yet) and the food is authentic. Both the hubby and I got the mussel special which comes with mussels in your choice of sauce, french fries and a glass of wine or beer. I have eaten this dish in belgium and holland where it is considered a local specialty and this was just as good! I also saw a small but good selection of other dishes that I will try on my way back.
