Last summer, we met up in Cambridge at a local restaurant. I passed by this Fast Eddie's. My head turned. I then talked about it with my friend. She said that I had to visit it. I was too stuffed after lunch to even think about getting dinner from there. I never forgot about it. Recently, I have been enjoying driving over to the Waterloo region. It's nice during this lockdown to drive along highway 401 and not get stuck in traffic. I was at the Cambridge OnRoute rest stop and felt like grabbing a bite to eat. I didn't feel like Burger King. Fast Eddie's came to mind. Yay! I drove over there, which is perhaps a five-minute drive from the rest stop. Double that time if you don't have a lead foot. I was about the turn right to pull into the parking lot, but a car decided to position itself in the middle of what would have been for him to exit and me to enter. Ugh! On a happier note, I drove around the block and spotted a Hakka restaurant. I added yet another bookmark. I finally pulled into the parking lot. You have the option of hitting the walk-up window to place your order (so cool!) or going through the drive-thru. I did the latter. There were perhaps two cars ahead of me. There was a lot to look at on the menu. What should I get? I went with the double burger works. I made it a combo with fries and a Diet Pepsi. I looked at the milkshakes and thought about ordering it, but I wasn't feeling it. Next time! My combo was just under $9. That's pretty good. Debit cards are preferred, although it does accept any tap method. The man at the window opened it halfway and brought out the machine. I paid with my debit card. Easy peasy! Moments later, I got my drink and food. I thanked him. He wasn't friendly. He wasn't mean. It almost felt like he wanted to get through his shift without getting COVID-19. I drove down the street to the parking lot with HomeSense. I had been there last summer and knew that it would be the perfect place to chow down in my car. It was! I normally don't enjoy ordering fries as my side. There are exceptions. I had a single fry and the salt on it felt like it was dancing with my tastebuds. The fries are delicious here. They are crispy and taste so good hot out of the fryer. I had the whole thing and I now crave kicking them up a notch. The place has beef and pickle fries. It also has crazy fries that looks like there's melted cheese and other items, such as bacon. I want the bacon version. Yes, yes, yes! I had my double burger works. I'm so glad that I got it. It had two beef patties that are thinner than I had expected, but the flavour was amazing. I felt like I was eating a salad with protein in a bun. I needed it considering how I had inhaled my fries. The lettuce, onions, pickles, and tomatoes were so fresh. This burger had ketchup and mustard. I normally don't like mustard as a burger condiment, but I ate it all without scraping it off. I am a fan. I am now eyeing the steak cheese burger. I set goals that I know that I can achieve. My Diet Pepsi washed everything down. It wasn't watered down. It was just the way it should be. I will get a milkshake next time. I want the strawberry shortcake wild shake, but double chocolate sounds yummy, too. I do set milkshake goals, too. I will be back. There's so much that I want. Cheap eats. Delicious food. Happy me! (51)

Came across Urban BBQ at CNT. Without online access to Yelp my stomach around, decided to join in…read morethe longer line (one of the more popular trucks in the fair) and ordered the pulled pork classic + brisket poutine. Brisket poutine - The (undrenched) fries were crunchy and well seasoned. Wished we ordered regular fries instead - The beef gravy was runny and flavorless. All it did was sogged up the best part. They were also pretty stingy in portioning the brisket and cheese curds. Brisket I understand but cheese curds too? In addition, the brisket reminded me more of beef jerky - chewy and dry. Pulled pork classic - $2 dollar more than competing trucks but was served with fries. The sandwich was underdressed. The pulled pork was overcooked and tough. The bun was not toasted. Not the worst sandwich but there are just so many better options around! Overall - Urban BBQ is the prime example why I usually frown upon getting foods from food trucks - Overpriced, small portion, mediocre foods.

Saw this come up on my feed from that Marcello Eats food blogger as one of the best "hidden gem burgers" in Toronto. As usual, these food bloggers are almost all just paid ads for the places... whether in fees, free food or simping for views. Trust me, it is not a "hidden gem". Food (3.75/5) - they have a choice of 7 different smash burgers. Had the Big Ben and friend had the Truffle Mushroom Melt. - Big Ben - two patties, cheese, pickles, lettuce on a brioche bun. Was a bit on the bland side imo. Patties were ok, bit on the small side. - Truffle Mushroom Melt - was better and had more flavour. Patty was similarly ok, mushrooms were good. Service (3/5) - guy at the front seemed like he was just going through the motions, semi-interested and kinda business like overall. They bring your order out when it's ready which is nice. Bunch of younger dudes manning the grill and counter. Atmosphere (1.5/5) - it is just a few tables and booths and pretty spartan. Bit strange the employee coat rack is on the side of the front counter where you order. The main reason though for the low score here is the place is flat out filthy! The floors likely don't get swept more than once every few days... dirty and lots of food remnants under the tables. Who knows what the back cooking area is like tbh. Overall (2.75/5) - definitely not a repeat. The food is half decent tbh but the cleanliness and the average service wreck it.

Fresh Burger is located on the east side of Dixie between Aimco and Eglinton…read more This mall is pretty much all restaurants and this place is right beside Chipotle. With so many food establishments in the immediate area how does this place stand out? I mean besides Staples and the gas station on the corner almost all the businesses nearby are ALL places to eat. Fresh Burger may be surrounded by competition but I have to say as far as quality burgers and fries go, this is the place. This is in fact the place where you can go and have their namesake, a Fresh Burger. So far I've only had the same thing as far as burgers here 3 times and that's the number 2 combo. While I've had variation on the fries with regular plain, poutine and what they call "Cali fries", their fries are really very fresh as well. They have a rewards card and on it besides having the stamp for rewards for poutine and burger combos, it mentions 100% fresh beef, no fillers, no preservatives, no BS just good classic burgers, hand cut fries, 100% Ontario potatoes, best tasting burgers and fries. OK so while some of those points are subjective, are they? I mean it takes some confidence to say you're the best. Sometimes it's justified and sometimes it's not. When it's not? The Earl of Sandwich claiming they have the best sandwich or something like that. In the movie Elf that restaurant claiming they have the best cup of coffee, etc. Fresh Burger makes a claim that is somewhat truthful on the subjective points. Their fact sheet on ingredients, well they are or they aren't. I'm going to say they are. The food here at Fresh Burger is pretty much simple. Simple like In-N-Out. If you've been there you know there's even less on the menu here (Fresh doesn't do shakes) but yes a single, double but at Fresh there's more toppings to consider. Different size burgers too so patties are either quarter pound (4 ounces) or 6 ounces in single or double forms. The only difference is the size of patties. The burgers are so fresh. I've seen them in ball / patty form. They are served west coast presentation as well, wrapped on one side and then half bagged so half is exposed. You can eat these without having to touch them. They are juicy so some dripping may occur. The Cali fries are basically a Canadian take on what is known as "Animal Fries" from In-N-Out. For those of you that do not know, they're fries topped with melted cheese sauce, topped with burger sauce (kind of like thousand island / Big Mac sauce) and sautéed onions. I think you either like this or you hate it. For some it may be too sweet because of the sauce or too many onions or just too much sogginess and too much going on. I like them and the serving is big. For the most part there's good value at Fresh Burger. The basic single quarter pound combo (Number 1) is 10.65 plus tax. That's not much more than McDonald's quarter combo but this place destroys Mc'Ds and I mean destroys them. For pretty much the same money I'm going to Fresh burger hands down. The quality of this place and value is just so much better than a conventional burger place and they're in the league with Five Guys I'd say. They more affordable than them even. Like Five Guys there's no tray which is kind of a bummer. No matter what you get your order in a bag at Fresh eat in or to go. It's more waste I suppose for packaging I can't say but they don't have food trays for eat in but then again there's no peanuts here either. Their fries are fried in canola. I asked a worker there to make sure it wasn't peanut oil because I was going to take my nephews here one day. Overall the quality at Fresh is amazing, great bang for the buck and one of the best fast food burgers out there in the GTA for a place that is a chain / small chain.
