    Dark Chocolate cheese cake .
    Tas M.

Have been coming here for some time , they make the best patisseries and cake . They never fail with there cakes , I know that for fact , they make really good coffee as well , there shops are very clean and staff always friendly . So if you need really enjoyable sweets then this the place to come .

    Lennete, Le Bon Choix, Ascot

We ordered an individual Clio, a Lennete, a 22cm Lennete (to go haha), a flat white and a cappuccino there. I can't say I was blown away by the Clio, it was too sweet for a cheesecake and I didn't feel the cheese at all but the Lennete was really good. The pear inside was a nice touch. The cappuccino was ordinary even disappointing. I'm sure everything is very well controlled and standardized but I do generally prefer the CBD store. The staff were very nice and helpful. They even turned on the outside fire for us :D Will I be back to Le Bon Choix again? Of course ! but probably make the effort and go to the CBD.

Let's face facts. Bakeries will rarely receive a bad review from me. I'm a total suck for baked…read moregoods. I've been on the search for "Australia's Best Lamington" for years now. Boulevard Bakery is a tiny, hole in the wall bakery on Wynnum Road. You won't find anything fancy or new in there, but it's good at the classic things. The apple turn overs are plump and creamy, the jam and cream donuts did a fine job of seducing me from the cake fridge, and the custard tarts look scrumptious. The breads are a little on the sweet side, but we'll forgive them. Most of the goods are priced between $1 and $5. Talk about cheap! Boulevard Bakery is great if you're looking for a sweet little baked snack for going between places. Grab a malted milk while you're at it and you're set to go!

Saying that, there's a pretty big chunk of my heart dedicated to apple slices and apple turnovers. Specifically ones made with that gelatinous apple filling that's mainly choko and cornflower. You can only find these at old school bakeries, and they're often refrigerated from the day before and tres disappointing. Not at Boulevard Bakery. This place probably hasn't changed sinced Brisbane had trams, and the baked goods are fresh and cheap. Sometimes a girl just has to say no to extravagent patissiere's and go for a good old fashioned Aussie fave.

I was skeptical - mainly because it was right in our backyard, and I figured his big-noting was due to not bothering to try the competition. Turns out I was wrong to second-guess his statement. This is actually the best bakery I have ever been to. In my life. Having lived in Melbourne and Brisbane and travelled reasonably extensively. The thing that makes this place so special to me, is its unassuming nature. It's not fancy. The owners haven't spent thousands of dollars making the place look modern and slick and trendy - instead they continue to display their delectable fare in regulation glass shelving with windows. The name cards are handwritten, and the sandwiches are made in the back in clear view of the shop front. This is where I should start my review. The sandwiches. OH THE SANDWICHES! Thick cut bread - white or wholemeal, or grain. Stuffed with all manner of toppings - my favourite being the Ploughmans. This comes teaming with moist roast beef, piled high with delicious fresh salads and lashings of spicy, sweet relish. It's a joy to behold, and I can only ever eat half of one despite my best efforts. The pies and pastries are all here in all manner of flavours, but at this window my favourite is the bacon and cheese. Unlike many pies of the same name, this comes with chunky slightly chewy bacon pieces that are cut into different imprecise sized squares. The cheese is a welcome surprise when it hits, as it too is random in its size and placement throughout the mix. It's always chewy and smooth and mixes with the bacon and delicious beef and gravy mix perfectly. The pastry is golden and fluffy and makes the fresh flaky sound when you crunch into it that I love. The cupcakes are second-to-none. I have yet to get past their simple small buttery vanilla cupcakes with white icing and pastel coloured hearts. I will order four in a white cardboard box as a 'congratulations', 'I'm sorry' or 'just because' gift as I know the recipient will give me one. ;) They are so moist, so fluffy and so soft in the mouth it's like they were made by a cupcake fairy. The icing is perfection - too often you have to fight your way through thick layers of tasteless sugary plates atop your cake, but this is different. The perfect thickness, this icing has a slight crunch to it and it perfectly blends with the creamy buttery cake underneath. The staff are always cheerful if not run-off-their-feet, although I often wonder how they do it with no air conditioning - especially in the humidity and heat of a Brisbane Summer. The prices are a little more than you would pay elsewhere, but 100% deserved. You can purchase a variety of cold drinks including a variety of juice and trendy sodas (my favourite extra treat is the cherry cola). This place doesn't need to advertise at all besides its time-honoured chalk board on the footpath. It has relied on word of mouth, which has clearly spread like wildfire all over the city as this place is almost always PACKED. And for very good reason. My top tip is to grab your savory and dessert items, pick out a beverage (I hear they do great coffee too) and cart your feast to the nearby park. The kids will LOVE it and you will be enveloped by the bliss that only quality, fresh baked goods can bring.

I dare you to walk in and not purchase anything from their range of tarts, cronuts, donuts, condiments, danishes or mini bar cakes. I drove that 20 mins I mentioned to try one of their much talked about cronuts. I'd had my heart set on the raspberry one (I'll do anything for raspberry) but alas had to settle for plain cinnamon and a salted caramel option. There was nothing wrong with the quality of the cronut - it was flaky and fluffy in equal parts. I just don't think this food trend is for me. Still, the figures don't lie and these babies are literally walking out the door for Flour & Chocolate. I'm yet to sample their equally famous donuts (give a girl time!) but their mini bar cakes always go down a treat for a simple morning tea when the parents visit or you just want to eat a small slice of heaven without the guilt of a whole cake still staring back at you.

Thankfully their price tags prevent me from making decisions my metabolism will regret, though it means I haven't tried much of their offerings. On a special occasion, I called in to order a small flourless chocolate cake (34) - an easy choice when choosing for a chocolate lover. I was rather excited, as I'd never been able to justify going to Jocelyn's Provisions "just because." The flourless chocolate cake is a dense chocolate cake with chocolate nuts, and toffee and praline bits. Not having looked at the pictures too closely previously, we were all impressed with the sugar lattice on the cake. Although a bit of a strange combination to have paired chocolate with a sugar lattice (flavour-wise), it was a lovely touch to the cake. It says online that the small cake is for 6 people, but we managed to make eight pieces, with all of us being satisfied (and even having some difficulty finishing the cake after dinner at Siam Samrarn). Needless to say, that was one delicious rich and dense chocolate cake! Even though I tend to not be a fan of chocolate cakes - or just cakes in general - if you want a scrumptious and impressive looking cake, this is the place to go!

I left it a little late to try to book my deal goodies in, but a short and friendly phone call later, I was assured a next-day pick-up would be absolutely fine. The girls at Camp Hill were such a delight to deal with, and I really wanted to try a little bit of everything in the front cabinet... and the bread racks. My order was all ready to go, and I had to struggle to choose just two breads from the shelves as part of the voucher. I ended up getting a spelt loaf and a pumpkin & blue vein loaf. You did not misread. Yum! I got them both in freezer bags, but if you're going to eat them fresh, Rock 'n' Roll put them in a paper bag instead (it's better for the bread). I got so excited about the breads, I almost forgot about the other parts of the order - a family-size lamb & rosemary pie, and a gluten free orange & almond cake. The cake is moist and full of flavour (I do admit to Cheesecake Regret when I saw the beautiful lime cheesecakes in the cabinet, despite not having that as an option with my voucher). The lamb & rosemary pie? Absolutely delicious. Big chunks of tender lamb in a creamy sauce. I'm not going to lie to you - I've had it for four of my six meals of the last two days, and I might cry when it's gone. Or I might just go buy another one... and one of those sweet potato & onion loaves, while I'm there.

Not having many pennies in my pocket at the time, we decided on what seemed like a quiet little bakery. Monticlare is down the end of 68 Racecourse Rd. With a few plastic seats outside and a very relaxed and casual atmosphere, it felt like the kind of place where I could get a cheap feed. The Bakery had a nice array of breads, croissants, cakes, cupcakes, sandwiches, and pies. The lady serving was lovely and attentive but I felt bad that I had to ask her to repeat the pie flavours because I could not quite understand what she was saying through her thick accent. The pie was the not he best I have ever had but definitely affordable and adequate. What I learned about Monticlair Bakery is that they've been at this business for years and the recipes haven't changed. You need to bit patient with the lady on the counter. Not because she's rude, actually I have nothing bad to say about her. Its just her accent is so heavy it filters most English pronunciations out. Trust me when I say she wants to make sure she's getting your order right. So after a few minutes, I strolled away eating into a pie that has been the same since Monticlaire opened. I hope nothing changes. That is all.
