Quiet (even peaceful), spacious and friendly. This was my first impression of The Union. I was there on a Monday afternoon for lunch and sat outside away from the business folk and the cricket watching business meetings. The outdoors particularly offers a variety of seating arrangements - patio style stone circle table, black lounge chairs, pub garden benches, café style - there's probably a spot to suit every mood or need.
Free wifi available which makes it great for casual business meetings, those staying in the hotel or freelances needing a 'third' place to work.
Prices are not cheap but not over the top either.I had a Caesar salad with chicken for $20. The portion was small but enough for lunch and the chicken was quality breast chicken. I was satisfied but wasn't exceptional.
My dining partners had burgers - fresh buns, perfectly cooked chicken ($15) and Wagyu beef ($15). For the gluten intolerant there are gluten free pizza bases available and the salads of course but no GF bread. My pick for desert is the Hazelnut and Nougat Ice Cream Terrine with fresh strawberries ($12).
Toilets are clean, stylish but dark.
High chairs for kids and despite being a pub if you sit outside on quiet day it the garden area is quite a good place to take kids. No grass mind you.
Wine starts at $6/glass and goes up to $285 for a bottle of Dom Perignon Vintage. read more
