We were in Paris for a month and first visited this little gem after doing a Google search for "poulet aux morille." We had just blown into town from Lyon and I was in the throes of a major chicken and morel BENDER. Bergerac had it on the menu and it was walkable from our apartment and the rest is history.
The food here is amazing. We ended up coming back several times a week until we reluctantly had to return to California. We ordered the chicken and morel sauce for our first few visits, and then graduated to the special cut of beef on the recommendation of the waiter. I had reservations about the beef because not only does my husband cook an amazing steak, but we visit Austin, Texas every year and I'm incredibly spoiled by that hill country barbecue. My reservations? Completely unfounded. That steak was so good I think we both kept our eyes closed in a low-key swoon throughout the entire meal. After that, all bets were off. We just let the chef feed us what he wanted to feed us. We must have had 10 meals at Bergerac, and never, ever did we fail to clean our plates. Appetizers, main dishes, desserts...never disappointed. We always let the waiter pick our wine, and it was all reasonably priced and delicious. And if you know what's good for you, go a little early to take advantage of happy hour, because the cocktails are especially tasty.
Aside from the AMAZING food and drinks, we really enjoyed hanging out at Le Bergerac. It's a rare little spot. We were always made to feel welcome and almost every time we ate there we would connect with other patrons. Maybe everybody is just happy to be eating such good food and drinking such tasty beverages.
Our last night in Paris? Bergerac of course. The beef again. Swooning again. We are hoping to get back to Paris next year for an ever longer visit. We seriously had a conversations about the importance of getting an apartment within walking distance of Le Bergerac. Seriously. Eat here. read more
