While touring the Champagne region, we ended up in Damery to check out a couple of Champagne houses. We decided to grab a quick lunch here. They were pretty much full up by the time we left, but when we arrived, there weren't many people and we managed to get a table for two near the window.
I had the Vol Au Vent to start and my partner ordered the escargot. Both were presented very well and tasted lovely. The escargot was served in a nice garlic and parsley butter which he ate up with as much bread as he possibly could. My vol au vent had a tiny bit of grit in it from some of the seafood, but since it was so good, I didn't really care.
For mains, we both ordered the entrecote with Brie de Meaux. Unfortunately, this was a bit of a letdown. The meat was really overcooked (probably as they knew we were foreign and thought we wouldn't like it rare). I don't know. I just expected a bit more.
It then took about forty minutes to get a server's attention to take our plates away. Yes, it had filled up, but the amount of time we were sitting there waiting so I could order a coffee and we could pay was ridiculous. I finally managed to get my coffee and the bill, but then we had to go to the bar area and pay. And still had to wait there a bit before we could.
It just seems like with such a big restaurant, they should have more servers available so that the service doesn't get terrible halfway through the meal. I think the location is great, and some of the food is good, but the terrible service would definitely keep me from returning. read more
