Grilled filet mignon and feu de bois.
Mats W.

Superb from start to finish! This restaurant is in the heart of Champagne, France & such a treasure! What's unique is that the mentality in this part of France is to drink champagne with every meal & every table had champagne! In the USA, it's "I'll have a Fat Tire or a Diet-Coke." But.... So this restaurant features seasonal cuisine, seafood specialties & grilled beef and Feu de Bois. It's not cheap, but you're on holiday so treat yourself! Great, attentive service & I'm sure the chef has accolades & stars behind his name; Christophe Bernard. So when in Epernay, do as The locals do & eat here!

Friendly and companionable red-walled bistro with the warmth of the wood grill and the smile of the chef and owner, Christophe Bernard, to make you feel welcomed. Grilled dishes are served in simple fashion and with simplicity with a single creamy baked potato. I had the rack of lamb medium-rare and a true medium-rare it was. The entrées were a bit more complex than the main dishes. My scallops and lentils plate was superbly tasteful a flavoursome. The place is, and has been for years, a meeting point for the Champagne trade. You might be lucky enough to dine next to a houses' director, a bubbled-up wine journalist or a producer. Greetings quickly happens between the different parties and everyone seems to know one another.

This place was such an amazing find in Epernay. The chef was present for every part of our meal, from greeting us upon entry to post-dinner pics. I ordered the tasting menu and each dish was generously portioned. The meal started off with a mini cold broccoli soup as an amuse bouche, and what a great start it was!! All dishes were also flavored very well and I was not at all disappointed. I would definitely visit this place again.

Symbiose - Potato mousse with apples

It's only a Michelin Guide restaurant but I believe it deserves a star. It was a random pick from…read moreour day adventure in Epernay. Order: a potato mousse with apples, raw oysters, Truffle Ravioli on a butternut mash sprinkled with hazelnuts, cod with asparagus and buckwheat. Everything was very light unlike American food that's super heavy. I loved that their ingredients were fresh and perfectly seasoned. Our server was very patient with translating the menu to us. The atmosphere was elegant and tranquil (we were also the first guests for that day so not noisy at all lol)

When you come to Epernay you understand two things.... There will be great food, and there will be…read moreeven better Champagne! Symbiose is both of these things. As a brand new restaurant people need to be patient with the wine list as it improves over time. The foundations are amazing however, and the greatest of wine connoisseurs must appreciate a solid foundation for a wine menu. Symboise has done this with their selections, from affordable common and grower producers to amazing finds like Jacques Selosse. While Selosse is going to run you into the mid 100 euro area it is well worth the investment, since how often are you in Epernay? The second thing that I found charming and great about this restaurant is that the host/server/bartender was the wife of the chef. It is a locally run business by two young people who are actively working hard to make their mark on Epernay through amazing food, service, and wine. They speak very good English by French standards, and my wife and I had no trouble conversing with them both about the restaurant, food, wine, and life. We found out that the Chef went to school in Paris for his culinary diploma, and they had moved to Epernay to establish themselves as a couple after being married about one year ago. Okay.... now that you have ALL that back story (and there is much more I did not share) it is time for the food. You can choose from an assortment of "Pick your own" style Prix Fixe menu. Prices are moderate considering the rest of Epernay, but I can guarantee that their prices will increase as time goes on and people find out how amazing this spot is. The value is absolutely present here. We started with a pumpkin soup for my wife and Foie Gras for me. After completing the Foie Gras (and soaking every last bit of it up off the plate) I struggled through my awful french to ask Justine (the host/owner/server/bartender) for a second plate of Foie Gras served after the main course. She seemed shocked, but I was so excited about the Foie Gras that I couldn't just have one plate. I have had Foie Gras many times and in many places, and this is the best I have had yet! The pumpkin soup was good, however personally when it comes to choosing between the two you should go with the Foie Gras! For the entree we selected two different things again. I chose the Poultry dish that had chicken, and my wife chose the Filet (steak) option. Both were fantastic, and were well executed when it comes to flavors. Nothing that was overpowering, and yet if you don't eat like your in the military (scarfing your food down), then you enjoy the development of so many subtle flavors over your palate. I was impressed with both my wife's and my dish. I would not hesitate to order both again. At this point I ate my second helping of Foie Gras, which was still just as amazing as the first round, and my wife enjoyed the fromage (cheese) selection. The cheeses were well selected, and portion was perfect for a single person. Last but certainly not least was the dessert. We enjoyed a pineapple/fruit dessert with vanilla ice cream, and a chocolate dessert with mascarpone. There were many other details that I am now forgetting, but if you are still reading you understand that its possible my mind had just been blown and I had forgotten the details. The desserts were amazing, and the perfect cap on a great dinner. Along with the beginning we opted to order the Ratafia de Champagne (which was sourced from a grower just 20 minutes driving to the south of Epernay), and it was incredible. We opted to not have champagne since we had a magnum waiting for us when we got back home (I know ... sometimes life is just hard!). By the end of the meal we got to converse with the chef and his wife who were the only ones working in the restaurant, and I can only imagine when it is busy they are working their tails off! Luckily Sunday is a slower evening to enjoy dinner, but with that said I would advise anyone to have a little bit of grace when reviewing this place understanding the amount of work, effort, and energy these two are putting into their restaurant. Bottom Line: These are two young people who have a passion to bring exquisite food, wine, and atmosphere together so that anyone willing to experience a meal at their restaurant will leave with a full belly, great memory, and changed outlook on what a meal can mean. I will never hesitate to recommend, come back, or sing the praises of this restaurant! I thank Maxime (the chef, and Justine (the server/bartender/host) for an experience I will not forget. Sincerely, Brad & Alex

We had a…read morelist of places that we wanted to try in Epernay, but some of them are closed in Sunday and we had a bit of trouble making reservations due to the language barrier. The style and decor of this place is a bit dated, but I'm not sure if it's old or purposely done that way. When we walked in, it was empty, but it filled up quickly. I think we were pretty much ahead of all the crowds by 30 minutes everywhere we went. You have the option of 4 or 5 courses, cheese course is included with either choice. I think every table we overheard asked about portion sizes and whether they should choose 4 or 5. 4 courses is plenty of food, but you should choose the 5 cause you're in Champagne, so why not. The sauce for my langoustines was a bit too fishy for my taste, but my fish and beef dishes were both really good. And tart for dessert was delicious. The French really know how to do pastries. They don't do wine parings, so we were recommended a bottle and it went very well with the food. We did learn that the champagne that is aged in oak goes better with food. Overall a very good dining experience.

The food was overall pretty good. Nobody had any real complaints about their main except for me. The steak I had was gristly and not even medium rare, as I had asked for; it was super tough. Basically, I didn't eat it and left it on the table, literally the worst steak I've ever had. The plus is that it's really cool inside. It's an ancient bank; the floor, ceiling, and decor were a bit modern, some light woods, giant marble pillars, and a very different kind of Chandler with fabric. This was the fanciest restaurant we went to the whole time we were in Epernay. It was just OK. I would say a solid three stars. And if you don't speak French, unfortunately, you're not gonna get much help here. Every single store or restaurant we went to in Epernay had people who spoke English. We did not have a hard time, and we were told we were going to this restaurant. They said there was simply no one who spoke English as a server. Still, I have noticed that most European restaurants do not appreciate large groups, just FYI, mainly because most are on the smaller side and cannot accommodate them. I'll keep an eye on this restaurant, see if it gets any better. Clearly, everybody who's gone there has only given them three stars, too. I'll keep you posted! Cheers, my friends SYOY 11/24/25

If you just show up at dinner time, you most likely won't be seated unless it's a very slow night. Rôtisserie Henry IV has a multi level floor plain, with a slight rise to the second level, maybe three steps, but it allows for a lovely overview of the restaurant. The menu is in French, so pull out your translation app, our waitress spoke passable English, which was great, because we spoke passable French. My wife ordered a farm salad with roasted chicken. There was so much chicken in the salad, she couldn't finish it. I decided to try the French version of Barbecue pork ribs with a side of fries. (Don't call them French fries. And don't ask for French Onion soup. You wouldn't order an American hot dog). The ribs weren't exactly Texas bbq, but they were quite good. These were not "fall off the bone". Quite tough to separate with a butter knife. But the glaze and flavor were very good. The only disappointment was the fries. Limp, Lukewarm. McDonald's has nothing to fear. For a packed, high end restaurant (we graduated from Bistro), prices were very reasonable. Service was very attentive. A solid choice if you're in the area.

Yay! I am a fan!…read more Well this place was actually recommended to us by Philippe Brun of Champagne Roger Brun as the place were locals would go to have lunch and I have to say he wasn't wrong! This place is basically a spot to have lunch in the town of Ay. The place basically service local cuisine of roasted meats in various preparations from ribs, to leg of lamb to what I can only assume is some variation on a kebab to roasted ham (amazing) that could be paired with locally produced champagnes from Philliponat, Roger Brun, Billecart-Salmon just to name a few. We were hungry but that doesn't the diminish the quality and quantity of food. I ordered mixed grille and my wife the leg of lamb and some appetizers and everything was amazing. We didn't have any champagne at the restaurant because we were going to the tastings but next time we will.
