I can honestly say this is the worst camping experience I can remember in 50 years of camping. The campground is clean, well-maintained, with nice sites. The owners, they ruined the weekend. They are unfriendly and unwelcoming. This campground is mostly seasonal and it shows. We were being watched the whole time we were there, the owner said as much.
Each year my family tries a new campgound together. I went with my mother (who rented the bigger cabin. She had no hot water and there was a sign in the bathroom that said only to use the bathroom in emergencies, but rather use the main bathroom for the campground when possible. Convenient considering those showers cost money to use and her's didn't), brother and sister-in-law, my sister and brother-in-law, and 6 of our kids and our two dogs.
We arrived at 8pm on Friday night. My wife had called and said we would be there around 8 and the owner, Peggy, said no problem, text me when you get here and I will meet you at the office to check you in. The campground is at the end of a partially dirt road. I arrived, my wife and I got out of our cars and we were greeted by Peggy, who was sitting outside, with, "You were bookin it down that street!". I said, "I was?". She said, "Yeah, you brought a cloud of dust with you!". This was in the middle of the parking lot with other people around, not very welcoming. It was not a good way to start when I was more worried about finding the place than to worry about how much dust a Chevy Silverado 2500 and 34' trailer were making behind me. We also had two cars and were given one card to get in. We asked if we would get a second card and based on Peggy's reaction, you would think we asked for her first born child. She said, "Why do you need a second card, aren't you always going to be coming and going together?" Ironically, on Sunday night we left to get pizza, and took the car with no key card by accident. We got back and called my son to bring us the card so we could get in. While waiting at the office for him to walk down, who comes knocking on my window to see why we were there, Peggy, the one that didn't want to give us the second card. I rolled my window down and said, "We forgot our card, my son is bringing it down for us to get in."
We go into to check in, which is where Peggy should have addressed my speed, if needed, not in front of everyone. During the check in process 3 of my 6 kids came in to check out the store. Peggy says, "Who is the third child, you only get 2 per site?" My wife and i said the third one was staying with my mother in the cabin, and then she grilled us on where all the kids were staying. She told us to come back the next morning to let her know where all the kids were staying since they would be staying with my brother, sister, and mother. No problem.
We get to our site. It's only got 50 amp service and we are 30 amp. Not having run into this before, we had no adapter. Usually if there is 50 amp there is 30 as well. My brother and sister had both at their sites. My wife texted Peggy and she nicely brought an adapter and followed it up with, "That is mine, I need it back tomorrow but you can buy an adapter when the store opens tomorrow". That night we had a fire at my sister's site, which was across from mine. One of my neighbors came across to tell us our fire was to big. I am pretty sure he was seasonal. The next night a different seasonal camper had a fire that was easily 2' higher than ours and nothing was said. I have a picture but it won't upload.
The next day I went to the bathroom, which are very nice. They are very new, modern, and clean. There is only one shower and it is 50 cents for 6 minutes. It takes a bit to get any hot water and there is next to no water pressure though. I was on my way back from the bathroom and my dogs were on leashes at the edge of our site barking at another dog walking by. The other owner, John, pulls up on his golf cart and tells us the dogs can't be in the road, which they weren't. They were on the edge in the pine needles. But I said, no problem. He rudely said, I don't care what you do, shorten the leashes, but get them in the site. I gave him the thumbs up. The kids also informed us that while I was at the bathroom they were walking the dogs and John stopped them to tell them only the parents can walk the dogs. My kids are 20, 16, 15, 14, 12, and 12. My 20 year old was one of the ones stopped and said the parents need to walk the dogs.
My wife and I went to the office shortly after to buy our adapter and inform Peggy which kids were staying where. We listed out the kids and their locations and Peggy said to my wife, "Are you sure?" My wife said yes. Peggy said, "The reason I am asking is because it was seen that 3 kids stayed in your mother's cabin." She followed it up with, "We went to make sure we have an open and honest relationship". She also said its not fair to the cabin and they don't w read more
