I saw good reviews so I wanted to check this place out but I honestly did not have a good…read moreexperience for a few reasons. The main reason is that I did not get at all what I wanted. I showed the barber two photos of a longer hairstyle that I wanted and described that I wanted to part my hair down the middle or do a 70/30 part. My hair was already a similar length to the photos (my hair was over my eyes and ears) but now it's way too short on the sides and I have nothing to work with on top. The whole time I was faced away from the mirror so I couldn't see what was going on. When he initially started cutting with the clippers, I felt like he was cutting too much already so I asked to see what it looks like. He showed me and it was okay so far but he turned me back around for the rest of the cut. I didn't want to ask to see it again because I got the vibe that he might have been offended (because he asked if I didn't trust him) that I was already doubting the haircut and I didn't want to be rude. Plus it didn't really "feel" like he was cutting that much but it turns out I was wrong once he turned me around at the end. I told him that I was growing my hair out since August (for 5 months) because my previous barber also cut my hair way too short even though I asked for something longer (I showed them the same pictures) and he told me he understood and would get me what I wanted, but ended up doing the same thing of cutting it too short. TLDR: I did not get anything close to what I wanted. If you look at the pictures I attached of what I showed I wanted and what I got, you'll see why I'm upset and put a 1 star and I think anyone would agree (If the barber sees this review, I hope you understand where I'm coming from). I really wanted to like this place too. Now I'll have to grow my hair out for another 5 months.

Really enjoyed my time at Kinship. First time visits at a barbershop can always be a little nerve…read morewracking for the client. You want it to be a great experience from the first cut - it sets the tone, and Javier did just that. Absolute fair pricing for the service. He took time to understand my style and spent a full hour, which included the cut, a clean shave on the back of the neck, and warm towel. He cares about the details, was really talented with using the scissors. My favorite part about this cut was that he used a straight blade to cut in my part, and I love that look. You can tell from being in the shop, it is truly a family and these guys have a lot of fun. They sell their own products for hair and beard inside. The shop has crazy cool art work, and a couple of TVs to watch while you are getting cut. Just an overall solid experience, and I'll definitely be back.

I normally cut my own hair but had what I thought was…read morethe good fortune of delivering food to Themaryangelo, or whatever her name is, and was given a business card to come in for a cut. So I let my hair grow out for a week from the close cut I normally have, and for the $50 I spent, had to ask this youn lady to actually do my hairline sharp like some of the pictures I've seen of her other clients. Clearly skill is there, but I must not have paid enough for a clean line up also. Plus I asked for it to be cut low only for her to say she's actually not gonna cut it quite as low as I had asked. OK I think to myself, starting to get annoyed. At the end I wasn't satisfied with my hairline sharpness but still tipped 20. After a couple days I was annoyed enough that I had to get a new pack of flat razors and do it myself, only 3 minutes in the mirror and I have a nice 90 degree angle hairline instead of this slightly rounded deal that she hooked me up with. I'm sure some gentlemen will find better luck but you would think that for top dollar you'd get treated a little better. Not to mention she rushed me out at the end, not rudely but rather briskly. Like, you can go now. I got my hair cut up on Ogontz Avenue for years for $15 dollars and never once got such a dull shape up, from neither Ms. Donna or the brothers over at Illusions. You could roll the dice on the Art Lair but I would recommend seeing a real OG if you go with a low cut and want a good taper fade or anything like that, this place does seem on point with braids and stuff though and is a clean barbershop with a good ambiance. What does it matter though if you get shaped up with the butter knife?
