My baby was hurting. 320k on SOHC 4.0L 9.75:1 V6. I bought it at 51k. The 270k I drove it were 80%…read morehighway. Always full synthetic oil. Developed an intermittent miss at about 268k. After diagnosis, it was a top end issue Due to finances, I put another 52k on it before replacing the engine with new, not rebuilt. When the tech pulled out the original motor, he found major top end issues. 2 cylinders with low (not 0) compression, one cam lobe had a nasty score on it, but it still ran like a champ on the highway for the last 52k. Kudos to Ford/Mazda for a bullet proof V6. When I finally had time to get it to Maurice's, Denin gave me 2 estimates. The new engine was almost $3,000.00 LESS than a rebuilt. No brainer. New engine comes with 3 year, 100,000k warranty. Rudy did a fantastic job on the swap, even did a couple extra minor repairs. ( I thought I had a clutch problem, but just a pilot bearing.) I've taken both our vehicles to Maurice's Auto Care since I found him. I have known him personally for over 40 years and his shop's work is beyond reproach.
