I was really anxious, because I don't have dental insurance, and I knew I'd be paying 100% out of pocket. After calling a couple of places, I called Dale Family Dentistry and spoke to Meredith. Instead of simply running down the office's standard fees, she asked me about what I was looking for in a visit. I was absolutely relieved when she said the office has a program specially designed to help those without insurance! For $225 per year, clients receive two exams, two cleanings, and all x-rays (extremely thorough ones at that!). You even receive 15% off procedures. They had an opening at 4:30, same day, so I took it. From filling out my paperwork to x-rays, the entire team was so, so nice. Each staff member took time to explain what steps were next, and I appreciated that the staff went a little further to explain why certain things were being done. Like 3D xrays-- the dentist was able to see if I had any jaw issues, cysts, etc. I wouldn't have known otherwise! My dental hygienist, Lynn, was absolutely lovely--making sure I was comfortable, no pain, and gave me a lot of positive feedback about what I was doing right and what could be improved. This dryness would cause a choking situation sensation, and an involuntarily response to chomp down. I can't help it. I asked if I could the have bite block, the most basic, common tool a dentist has in his arsenal be placed in my mouth to prevent damage from this involuntary reflex. A few minutes later he angrily had his assistant jerk it out of my and told me just to swallow, which I couldn't. This put me in an extremely dangerous situation. I have extremely sensitive teeth that usually required injections before they could be cleaned. But Collette actually had plastic tools for sensitive teeth. This was the first cleaning in 15 years that I did without numbing! Very social office, felt like I had been a client for years. Dr. Pendleton was very thorough, pointed out a few "trouble spots" that my CA dentist has had a watch on for years, and he agreed to keep watching them instead of pressure to get "extra" work done. I trust him implicitly which is good because I've had a lot of work done (like six major surgeries in the past decade). He's compassionate, funny, honest, and a great dentist. He cares so much that he gives his personal number to patients when the office is closed and over holidays, in case of dental emergencies. His office staff are also gems. I've known them for years, but they take such effort to learn new patients' names and are truly interested in your needs. They all work very hard to accommodate patients especially when you are in pain or have an emergency situation. Dentistry can be painful and it can often be expensive which is why I value my doctor and his staff. They soften both blows with their helpfulness and warmth. I'll be very sad the day that Dr. Nunnally decides to retire. Until then, I'll appreciate his practice for the rare jewel that it is, a health professional that treats every patient like a neighbor not a number.
