The pandemic was a crazy time and moving right before it, found me with no primary care doctor…read moreduring the worst public health crisis in over a hundred years. So i had to find a doctor quick... just in case. I remember looking up reviews on both google and yelp for reviews for doctors in town... and even in nearby Lima and Delphos. This is by the way not very helpful as there is a dearth of reviews for medical professionals it seems. I don't remember exactly why i chose Van Wert Family Physicians, but i called in to the office and asked to become a new patient. I was directed to fill out some paperwork online. I did so. Now there are a number of doctors who work there, i asked to be seen by Dr. Kristen Pollock, who my mother was already using. Super happy i did. She is awesome! Great doc... caring, honest. The visits i had during the pandemic were all virtual, it wasn't until a year later i got to meet and have a full check up with her but it was a crazy 2020. Honestly, i don't think i have had such a good doctor since my pediatrician back before i became an adult. Maybe i am just used to things being different in Miami, Florida where i am originally from. Health care there... sucks. Your a number, nothing more. Even when you are seeing someone who cares, they are incredibly busy and overworked. They only have so much time for you. Dr. Pollock takes time to make sure you are healthy and stay healthy. The staff is wonderful overall. Its never difficult to get a hold of someone to make an appointment nor to talk to the nurse if i have some issue. And talking about times, unlike Miami... you see your doc at your scheduled appointment time.. no waiting hours to see one. Van Wert Family Physicians also is where i got my covid shots... happy to have gotten them! Just love the level of care this place gives! If you are looking for a good primary care/family doc! Come here!

So i tried to get an appointment with this provider that family members recommended. I had to fill…read moreout a MOUNTAIN of online paperwork for them to 'evaluate' if they could accept me as a patient. . I've had providers in SIX States and never heard such language from any type medical facility. ~ 2 weeks later I get a letter saying they weren't accepting me and that "they have been declining many new patients". I just called them and the scheduling lady got flustered when I asked what criteria they used. She put me on hold after 15 seconds of silence and her boss (I assume) got on. She was extremely pleasant and professional but said she doesn't know the criteria; however they have been turning down a lot of people after losing a doctor so 'maybe' that's it. I said had your letter said you are not accepting ANY new patients due to lack of openings that would have been fine. Case closed. But it didn't. And it logically suggests you are using some sort of logic to cherry pick patients you want without revealing the reasons to prospective patients. I said after giving you all my information - now I'm not acceptable! And no one can explain the criteria? That information by the way included my race. . I wonder what the big secret is for accepting patients?!? I mean, seriously, I am stunned how this practice operates. She apologizes and says she'll see if they can update their language for the future. I have Federal Blue cross insurance so it's pretty good. They are a contracted provider for my insurance. So this isn't an issue of paying. So yeah, maybe some of you can become patients there, but not all of 'us'... Good Luck
