I have a 6 month old puppy and she got spayed on March 25th, 2026. I dropped her off I the morning…read moreand picked her up in the afternoon. Before the appointment I had talked with an employee and had mentioned my dog had an umbilical cord hernia that I'd like to be removed and the employee said that they would be able to remove it the same day she had her spay surgery done well in the afternoon when I picked my dog up after surgery, they had told me that they did not remove the hernia because they didn't feel the need to overall my dog had a very quick recovery and I would recommend this place but when I did ask for an explanation as to why my dog didn't get her hernia removed the employee was unhelpful and didn't give a great reason.

The one vet here told my spouse that our dog needed surgery on her leg. She had limped sometimes…read more We later learned by our new vet that she doesn't. New vet examined why she can tell and write 2 pages on this & things to do to help our dogs leg. It worked! No more limping & she needed no expensive surgery! Even worse was that Standish AH was really cold when I was trying to face the coming losses our 2 very old rescues. I has started grieving them already when they both began declining fast.. The one was around 15 when I called, & I stated that our other old dog was also declining (experiencing dementia and also physically losing use of his body). The call was intended to give me clarification and to help. I was given no check list or anything. Nobody asked any questions. I explained that the oldest dog only walked in small circles & went blind within the previous 4-5 months & also had dementia. These are dogs who went there 4 years (the staff couldve glanced quickly at our records)! My dogs were always up to date. The vet said to get prepared about our oldest dog 4 yrs prior. This phone call was so difficult to make.. They said my mentioning two dogs declining fast made them distrust my judgement. I took care of the oldest one 24 hrs a day. We adopted her as an unhealthy high needs senior. The shelter said that she prob didn't have much time. She was like my baby. I was physically sick & shaking after that call,, & I switched vets immediately. The new vet explained that our young dog's leg issue was arthritis from an old injury prob when she was puppy in PRico. The vet thoroughly explained how she can tell & wrote up 4 pages for us on how to help our dog. Standish vet had said she needs surgery and had my spouse in tears. For our oldest dog, I called Havens end of life Vet Service in Biddeford. They were so gentle and caring! They & their wonderful vet did follow up & both sent us a long heartfelt written card. We felt cared about. They had Dr Mary Orte come to our home who is amazing, patient & gentle. We sat out under the shade on quilts and pillows. I got to lay down and hold my dog as she was crossed over. It was a beautiful day in retrospect. A day all for our little old dog. It is peaceful, beautiful and love filled to look back on. And, the cost was only around 400.00 which included the extra distance change. Standish vet was going to charge nearly as much much for us to take her there. I'm sure they wouldn't have sat with us for an hour until we felt ready & listened to their rescue stories. Our other old rescue died at home on his own which felt unfair. It devastated us. We probably should have had them both crossed over together, but Standish gave me such a complex about mentioning two dogs being on their way out, . That was the worse time in my life, and I've experienced the loss of close family. Every vet staff needs to prioritize gentle sensitive care with end of life discussions. The only help I got tell it was time were online tests and check lists. My oldest dog was way beyond the humane best time to let her go peacefully. I cannot forgive someone for making me allow my dog to suffer months longer because they made me feel terrible for asking about end of life care! I'm the one always saying that it's selfish to keep suffering old pets alive. The responsible thing to do is to have the pet crossed over peacefully and humanely if there's no hope. I was lost without an outlet for that love and nurturing, so I did apply to adopt another high needs dog at ARL Westbrook. They brought me into a room and said my application passed well but asked what happened to my oldest dog. Somehow. they called Standish vet who wasn't listed as out vet. Standish said I didn't want to spend the money to he e my old dog put down there! I said o gladly paid more for Havens gentle caring vet to come to my home. . It was insulting. The vets all knew our dogs have always received the utmost care since we adopted them. The oldest one was adopted at ARL whom I regularly updated with photos and continuous thanks. I was grateful they saw value in an old dog who needed so many surgeries & transported her from Oklahoma. Being put on the spot justifying myself was painful. I couldn't talk about the dog or my other one without crying. Not the experience I expected at ARL thanks to Standish being spiteful. My whole life for 50 years has been helping animals/dogs in many places and ways. I was at AWS Kennebunks for 20 years every day, and I have the best references from rescues, shelters and vet offices. I am an humane educator and am adamant about humane education. Yet, I was grilled as if I was irresponsible and heartless. . Yes, long story. But, important story.

What a remarkable experience all the wayaround Falyn, at the front desk, is as warm, professional,…read moreand helpful as I've ever found in a service establishment :-) The facility is incredibly clean and efficient, and the stress level for dogs here is SO LOW!!‼ We used to take our slightly anxious Husky to PetSmart, where we first met Danielle several years ago. She was so kind and patient with Ember, who always came out looking absolutely beautiful, that we only ever wanted to work with her. The pace at PetSmart was fairly frenetic, but Danielle was always cool, calm, and collected. I worried that she might leave one day after becoming the head groomer, and was lucky enough to get her to share her contact info with me. We reconnected and Ember just had her first grooming at the Soggy Dog. We couldn't possibly be happier! We are absolutely over the moon to be back in Danielle's caring hands In this lovely spot. They're incredibly well set up for self bathing, and all of their services are top notch!! THRILLED to have found them, and especially that Danielle is here!!

His groomer, CUT OUR DOG'S EYE and cut her eyelash COMPLETELY OFF! AVOID this place.
