This is honestly the best dance studio in Slidell. My daughter began dance at Laurie Maffei's Danceworks Studio right before she turned 2 years old. She's now 8 years old and starting her 4th year on the studio's competitive dance team. The amount of growth I've seen with my child alone is unbelievable. The owner and every instructor at the studio are all so caring, patient and talented dancers who all truly love their students. Whether you're looking for recreational dance class or competitive dance- this studio has it all. read more

I hate that I have to make a bad review of this establishment because it was great in the beginning. I started to notice signs of unfair treatment amongst the brown girls, while I should have mentioned it earlier I didn't until it happened to my daughter! She would constantly get ignored and was shown aggressive behaviour/body language by one of the cheer teachers. I have zero tolerance for unwarranted disrespect towards my daughter. It would actually hurt her feelings and when she hurts I hurt. She's only 6, she nor any of the other kids of color who attend Danceworks of Slidell deserve to be treated this way. She is my love, I'm her advocate , and I will no longer keep my silence! I'm sick and tired of my daughter being treated less than fair because of the color of her skin! I pay my hard earned money just like everyone else for her to attend this class! I emailed Dancework to see if we could talk about it but I received no response , I was ignored ! It was heavy on my heart so unfortunately this is what it had to result to! Parents, if you're Ok with your precious little brown princesses or princes for that matter being treated less than fair because of the color of there skin then by all means go ahead allow your kid to attend but we been dealing with injustices for tooooo long! All children should be treated fairly! DON'T TAKE A CHANCE , TAKE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ELSEWHERE! There are other establishments that will treat your child with respect, dignity and with gladness! read more

I danced at danceworks for 10+ years and loved every second of it. I was on the competition team, Marched in parades, took many classes and also helped teach classes. The studio is very family oriented and was always my safe place to go when having a bad day . Ms Laurie and all of the staff is very friendly and makes sure to give each and every student the time and help they need. First, Pauline offered the first class free--what a gift, right?! I don't know how long she will do that, so come visit soon! I love to dance and Pauline has presented a class that allows you to own your movement and get in touch with YOU. I appreciate that she's created a space for that in her class. Nia has a small level of choreography, but you personalize it and go as aggressive or as relaxed as you need. I like so many genre's of music and at her class, I think I heard jazz, exotic music styles and maybe even some pop. It was smooth. To tie it all together, Nia dance incorporates an awareness of breath, body and mind. I appreciated that they offered free available water and clean restrooms. They even supplied nice towels so you don't need to bring one if you're on a day pass. It also had a beautiful rooftop view.
