I started to notice signs of unfair treatment amongst the brown girls, while I should have mentioned it earlier I didn't until it happened to my daughter! She would constantly get ignored and was shown aggressive behaviour/body language by one of the cheer teachers. I have zero tolerance for unwarranted disrespect towards my daughter. It would actually hurt her feelings and when she hurts I hurt. She's only 6, she nor any of the other kids of color who attend Danceworks of Slidell deserve to be treated this way. She is my love, I'm her advocate , and I will no longer keep my silence! I'm sick and tired of my daughter being treated less than fair because of the color of her skin! I pay my hard earned money just like everyone else for her to attend this class! I emailed Dancework to see if we could talk about it but I received no response , I was ignored ! It was heavy on my heart so unfortunately this is what it had to result to! Parents, if you're Ok with your precious little brown princesses or princes for that matter being treated less than fair because of the color of there skin then by all means go ahead allow your kid to attend but we been dealing with injustices for tooooo long! Shane not only teaches you to dance he educates you on what particular dance you are taking. This was my daughter's first year at BXP, and her fourth year overall in dance. We tried two other…read morestudios prior to this...one very classical for ballet (which was not my daughter's cup of tea at the time), and another studio whose program was recreational and not quite the experience my young dancer wanted. BXP offers the variety of classes she wanted, and the teachers have challenged her. The growth at the end of the year was clearly evident. Towards the recital, my daughter needed extra support, I asked for it and she got it. My favorite part as the parent was, of course, the recital. :) The recital was gorgeous! Fees were not as expensive as some of the other schools, and considering it took place at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre, I felt that we got a good value. Performing as professionals do has increased my daughter's love of dance. Not sure what more a parent could want from a dance school. I was shocked to find a one-star review of this place (from 2013). That review does not at all reflect the experience we had at BXP. Maybe there have been changes since then....but there are many students who have been dancing with them for over five years. I hope that my daughter becomes one of them.

We attended the open house back in July and was given a tour and was provided an explanation of the activities (both tap and ballet will be practiced) in the class, as well as the events for the year. The studio is extremely clean, well lit and the staff are super nice. My little girl enjoys her classes, which is relatively well priced per month for the lessons. I do find that the products are on the pricier end, since all dancers must wear branded items, but it makes since for a unison front. They also have an annual recital and that comes at a price as well. Things do add up from all the wardrobe, photos, and recital.

They recently merged the 2 former studios into one massive, awesome studio at the corner of Manahattan and Lapalco. Next to PJs, which will become a weekly habit now. The new space has 2 dance rooms, 2 music rooms, and a huge parent seating area. All in all, a great place for kids dance (and music) lessons on the Westbank!

The instructors went out of their way to make everyone feel welcomed, respected, and comfortable, the facilities were beautiful and well maintained, and the prices are reasonable, even without the discount. There is no parking lot bur street parking was really easy both times I went. If I had one suggestion for improvement it's that I wish there was less time spent on talking and introductions during class, and more time spent learning choreography (a one hour class turned into maybe 40 minutes of dancing) but it does allow for a community to develop. Update: I did realize the classes were 75 min not 60, but still you should expect to be in a circle talking / introducing yourself / saying affirmations for the first few minutes which might throw you if you weren't prepared for it or are introverted!
