One of the best burgers in Melbourne hidden on the outskirts of Epping Plaza. No matter where in Melbourne you live, Laurie Dee's should be on the list of burgers to try, it is worth the drive (even if it is over 1 hour). Don't just stop at the burgers though, their fries and frozen custard are both fantastic, go all out and order one of everything!

    Laurie Dee's double

@20160130 Just had the double dee and it's like a good normal burger. good but nothing fantastic... hmm unless my tastebuds have changed. Is there such a thing as a burger snob ?? @2014 Sept made the journey up north specifically for the double Laurie Dee Burger. The Mrs ranks this as the BEST she's had and she has tried a lot!! I drag her with me :) as for me... hmmm it was good but I can't separate between Chew Burger or Laurie Dees. Guess might have to go back to do more comparison. Lauries patty is great. Juicy not dried with crispy bits on the side. just how a good patty should be. It's very flavoursome without overpowering salt. The bun was mayb a tad bit small. It fell apart too easily. But it works! The feature was the patty and how the condiments of pickle lettuce sauce and bun complemented everything in one mouthful!! damn it am salivating already!! The Chilie cheese fries and custard ice cream was good but $$ for what it is.

Burgers, cheesey fries and a malted shake

Had been excited about going to Laurie Dees for quite a while ... finally got there! Between us we ordered the Laurie Dee burger and the bacon burger, along with some cheesy fries. The patties on the burgers were tasty, although a little unusual in that they are thin and crispy. I enjoyed both of the burgers - but wished we got doubles as they are quite small. The cheesey fries were OK. The service was quite slow when we visited - it took almost 30 minutes to get our burgers. If I was in the area and hungry I would eat here again.

    Sloppy Joe

Have not been to the burger chains in America but these are by far the best burgers I have ever had hands down and on several occasions now. Whenever I go here I nearly die at the quality and flavour. They do the patties thin and fresh so the fat is cooked high and crispy in the meat and the cheese melts between the meat perfectly. Usually get the double which is perfect size and or the sloppy joe. The loaded chips are nice too and good to share. Honestly no one understands how good this place is it is the best kept secret in Australia.

Please Laurie Dees, I implore you to franchise your business and bring it down south of the Yarra! We need you in our lives! This rates as one of my most satisfying burger experiences in Melbourne. It's not gourmet with wagyu or brioche buns, but just simple classic burger goodness. I'm a huge fan of "soft and yielding" burgers with thin patties full of beefy flavour and no veggies. The double cheeseburger totally delivers on this - no sloppy vegetation disrupting the cheesy meat flow. I love the crisp edges of the patty, that made it for me. And the frozen custard sundaes & shakes were so delicious, seriously good stuff. Very sad that Epping is so far away from me!

The set up is different, and like as if they took a tip from the whole food truck craze. You order outside from a fixed stand and take a number to sit either indoors, or in their outdoor seating area. The indoor section has a playpen for the kiddies and wood panels surrounding the wall. There's a steady stream of people, which I always take as a good thing. The first visit was strictly a milkshake mission. The Ferrero Rocher was perfect and complete chocolate hazelnut, not a let down. The Creme Brulee was good too, but I wish I ordered the Ferrero Rocher. Both were thick, but not too thick, just a really good consistency. And sweet, but not too sweet. The second visit involved going all out with their menu choices: a herb crusted chick burger, Raffaelo shake and waffle cheese fries. And all I can say is whoa. This meal is not meant for one. There's no way. I was happy with everything, but it was so overwhelming to try and finish everything. The chicken burger was a handful on a lovely Sourdough bun, and had a rich Alfredo sauce. The waffle fries were yummy but had a thick and heavy three cheese sauce. The shake was beautiful and just like liquefied Raffaelo, which is exactly what you'd want it to be. It was a learning experience, next time would be one or the other (burger vs waffle fries), the shakes are a must. Or maybe I'd split the burger and still have the shake and fries. I'm not sure, but what I do know is that I won't do all three at once again. Plus side: open til 11pm on weekdays and midnight on Friday & Saturday.

It is easily accessible via public transport, with a bus stop close by. We were a little confused upon arrival as there is a burger track situated at the front - so we thought that Burgies might have been a burger truck and not a 'dine in' kind of experience... but we soon realised that they had both indoor and outdoor seating, and the truck was there to take orders. We were greeted by a friendly staff member at the truck, and all the staff members we encountered there were very hospitable and sociable. We both ordered 'The Lava' burger with an added patty, waffle cheese fries with added avocado, and gelato thick shakes - one being Strawberry Cheesecake and the other Ferrero Rocher. Price wise they stack up pretty well against their competitors. Their most expensive burger is $12.00, and to add-on a beef patty only costs an extra $2.50 - which is amazing value! They have a range of burgers including beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian options. Their shakes and sides were around average price. We were given a restaurant pager, and then took a seat inside. The venue is really great! We loved the set up, and we loved the use of the crates on the walls which tied in with the industrial area. It has a modern interior, and even had a play pen for kids which we thought was a great idea for families that visit! It wasn't long before our pager went off, so we went and grabbed our food. Everything looked delicious, and we were particularly excited about the waffle fries. They tasted scrumptious! Lovely and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The avocado and cheese sauce went really well with them, and the serving size was definitely decent. 'The Lava' burger was really yummy too! The patty was spicy, which we did not initially realise, but it was enjoyable. The tasty cheese, egg and caramelised onion tasted really nice together, and the lettuce gave a bit of refreshment to break down the spiciness and warmth. We quite enjoyed the mild-peri sauce too! The shakes were thick and creamy, and conveniently given in take-away cups. We were impressed by the overall location, service and food at Burgies - and highly recommend that you check them out.

There's over the top versions with truffle mayo and mac n' cheese croquettes, but I prefer to keep it simple with a single stack burger and the addition of jalapeños. What sets Royal Stacks apart from other local burger options is the service and the environment which lends itself well to family and friend groups eating together. Large table configurations as well as smaller ones for couples. A staff member welcomes you and helps you find a table and another will pop past during the meal to ask how everything is going. It's a small extra that's totally unexpected in what is otherwise a fast food-esque experience (order and pay at the counter, collect your tray when ready) but it does make everything just that little bit nicer especially when there's kidlets in your group.

It's also nice and bright with huge plate glass as its on the corner of the building. It's not completely derro as this place was clearly designed to be retro contemporary with some raw timber and the positioning of retro collectibles. I had grilled cod with chips and a dimmy.
