Almost 8 months after receiving services, I unexpectedly received an invoice for over $200. When I called to ask about the charge, I was told that my insurance did not cover certain portions of the retainers I received because of "age restrictions." What is frustrating is that before agreeing to the retainers, I specifically asked the front desk multiple times whether my insurance would cover them because I did not want to pay a large amount out of pocket. I was assured that everything was good to go and was told exactly what my portion would be. Based on that information, I agreed to move forward. Now, 8 months later, I am being asked to pay an additional amount. I understand that ultimately insurance determines what they will cover, but I wish the office had been upfront about the possibility that these services might not be covered instead of assuring me that they would be. Had I known this beforehand, I may have made a different decision. I was also encouraged by the dentist to get the plastic retainers, which I agreed to because I trusted his recommendation, even though I already had a permanent retainer. Unfortunately, this experience has caused me to lose trust in the office, and I have decided not to return. I would recommend that patients verify coverage directly with their insurance company before agreeing to services rather than relying solely on what they are told by the office. An unexpected bill nearly 8 months later is extremely disappointing.

They always keep you waiting, the dentist keeps very poor, handwritten records of what he does in your chart, and that is the ONLY record. No one else can read his handwriting, so obtaining your records to pass on to a new dentist is fruitless. I had to have a front tooth implant replaced. The dentist had to BORROW the proper tool to remove the old one, from the oral surgeon who put in the first one, 10 years prior--because he doesn't apparently have any current technical equipment or tools to work with himself. Sooo, when he figured out he couldn't remove it, I of course, had to reschedule when he had the right tool for the job. THEN, the temporary he had put in kept falling out. When the replacement crown finally arrived, it not only didn't fit, but was way off in color, thickness, size, everything. Over the next 1& 1/2 YEARS, I had to come in repeatedly, for approximately 8 or 9 crown install attempts--because every one came back poorly made, poorly sized and way off in color. His office called to let me know another crown had arrived and to schedule another appointment, but when I came, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE TOOTH! So, another waste of time. I never got a satisfactory crown--I finally just got so tired of coming in time and time again to test out another dud, that gave up and went with the 8th or 9th try, and the tooth has bothered me ever since. It in no way matches my other front tooth, is thick and uncomfortable, and never fit properly under the gum. It's awful. This is just one of many issues I had with that place. I would never go back and NEVER would I recommend this practice.

By far the best dentist I have ever had…read more I saw Dr Queen as a second consultation after receiving an unusually bad report at my 6 month cleaning with a big dental group in DC. Suspicious that I did not need a root canal or have 6 cavities, I went for the free advertised second opinion. He was easy to talk with, took the time to understand the situation, took a careful look at my teeth and my old x-rays, and only when something looked "borderline" did he do his own x-rays and procedures to ensure he was giving me the best information possible. He did not find the 6 cavities or the need to do a root canal, and I felt like he was genuinely concerned with me as a patient--not fabricating dental issues or being overly aggressive on treatment just to make a profit. An EXCELLENT dentist!!

As a bonus, when pain strikes (a molar cracked, a jagged tooth sliced into my tongue) , I didn't have to ask 'what would Dr. D. do', I called the office and found out. He was away visiting family but responded right away. When description failed, I sent him yukky pictures. He told me what to do and who to see--the dentist who treats his family. The office is about 10 inconvenient miles away, he's not always been in my dental plan, so I pay for the privilege of going there. It's worth every penny.

Every other doctor I have, has a voicemail setup that says at the end:"in case of emergency call 911". Dr. D's office offers a phone number for an emergency and when I had the worst pain I've ever experienced in my mouth on a long holiday weekend, they answered my plea for help and rushed a prescription that Stopped my my trauma in just a few short hours. He is an absolute Saint and there is no one like him in the medical field that I've ever encountered. On top of that his staff such as Kathleen are incredible. If You have gum issues, need an implant, or an extraction, there is absolutely no better place in the Washington DC area than the office of Dr.Doppalapoudi! In these troubled times, it's nice to see some exceptions to the cold mercenary world out there. Dr. Praveena Petluri is a fantastic dentist! Very smart, knows her biological science, outstanding…read more"bedside" manner, very precise and accurate in her treatments, extremely knowledgeable and more than willing to offer as much information as a patient can absorb. The key for me though is the administration of anesthetic. She is an absolute master. She can deliver dental anesthetic nearly painlessly in some areas of the gum and with only a pinch in those back areas that are so difficult. I met her at Metropolitan Dental in Silver Spring (also a great practice) but they are specialists. I followed her down to iSmile in Reston because she is the best. She is a very demure, gracious, and humble person, but her skill is that of a master in general dentistry. I HIGHLY recommend her. The iSmile practice is good. Metropolitan has more up-to-date equipment and support, like glasses for patients to wear that help block debris during drilling and moisturizer for the lips during treatment, but Dr. Petluri is the best general dentist I have EVER visted....I will be going back to Reston for her to take care of my teeth....
