A lot of people were enjoying taking their sailboats on the lake (or rather, the reservoir) it added to the overall atmosphere and gave the lake (err, reservoir) a vibe more fitting for a painting. If you are in the Jackson, Mississippi area, I would definitely recommend checking out this park. I will give Old Trace Park five stars overall and it definitely has my recommendation.

The docking area appears to be bigger, too. It's much quieter and very relaxed on this side, too. I saw some of the trees cut down, but I think that was from the storm, and they had to be cut down. You can even reserve the pavilion at no charge in advance if you are going to have a large gathering such as a family reunion, birthday party, etc. Throughout the park there are grills and picnic tables. Many of them are in shaded areas. The city does a good job at maintaining the grounds. I just hope people continue to be considerate and pick up after themselves and put trash where it belongs so this park can continue to be enjoyed for many more generations to come.

It also sits along the Natchez Trace Parkway so easy convenience getting on or off the Trace near the park. In the park, you'll find lots of grassy patches and trees providing plenty of shade. There are plenty of benches as well as little tables you can sit at with a friend. There's a big gazebo you could post up in with a big group of friends or coworkers. There's a large stage, and from time to time festivals and shows are hosted in Smith Park. There are water fountains in the park. At night, the park can get a bit sketchy but most of Downtown is empty at night anyway which is a bummer. During the day, this really is a lovely place to meet up with friends and share a picnic or just sit and enjoy the sunshine. I only wish there was bike parking inside the park!
