If you are in the Jackson, Mississippi area, I would definitely recommend checking out this park. I will give Old Trace Park five stars overall and it definitely has my recommendation.

It's a great place to cycle, with only a few road crossings where there will be much traffic. The section east of U.S Highway 51 has a good deal of shade, but the rest of it is hot and sunny at midday in the summer. Take plenty of water. Mississippi heat can be dangerous. The only negative thing about it, is the section east of I-55, between the Interstate Highway and U.S. Highway 51. The pavement is separating, and although they patch it, you have to slow down and watch for holes. It can be dangerous, if it is near dusk when you ride through. Look out for walkers and runners, if you bike. If you jog or walk, please wear bright clothing, and stay to one side of the path. I almost T-boned a guy, walking in dark clothes, with no light or reflectors, at dusk. Ridgeland does have a helmet law, but you should be wearing one anyway. A few bucks is not a lot, to protect yourself from brain damage or death.

Seeing the large pond with the ducks is pure tranquility. It's so nice to relax while watching nature. There's a boardwalk that you can walk on. Clean restrooms on site under a pavilion. Huge parking lot too on both sides. I am telling you I was so amazed that a park like this exists here. I'd normally find a ton of parks like this in Houston. I'm glad the City of Flowood built this for the community. Amazing. I brought my boyfriend here and he loved it too! I didn't map out how many miles you can accumulate by walking the trail the first time, but I think that if you walk multiple times on the trail you can max out on 10k steps. Come check it out! We planned our last stop & hotel around stopping at a good dog park. The Rez did not disappoint. Found a phone number on line. Called ahead to see if the $5 parking fee was in effect. A lady actually answered the phone and was very nice & helpful - First Star. Arrived to a one-way circle drive. As soon as you crest the hill on the way in you'll see it on the right, clearly marked & plain as day. No driving around lost - Star 2. HUGE parking lot. Additional area to walk pets all around the play areas, picnic areas & trails of the park. If you are a breeder of 2-legged animals, everyone can join :-) Options! - Star 3. This park was obviously crafted with love by community members. If you played a part in this, please accept my humble thanks. It is beautiful & well-equipped. Your council members should know that I chose to spend my tourism/lodging/fuel/food/travel dollars in your town because of your efforts. The fencing was in great shape. There are restrooms right outside the pet park entry gate. There were separate areas for small and large dogs. There were water stations & bowls. There were plenty of poopy bags and waste stations. There were places to sit. There were sunny & shaded areas. There were plenty of useable squeaky toys & tennis balls, but no broken items. Pet parents often leave behind those-type items as a convenience for themselves & others. Seeing the items means some city-jerk doesn't come through and just throw out everything, but they do seem to get rid of anything that becomes unsuitable -Star 4. Even though the last paragraph was enough for Star 4 AND 5, I had to leave a Star for the view! I took some of the best photos of my babies on the way back to the car. This area is breathtaking - Star 5.
