The park here is set up with a number of camping facilities and trails that have a separate entrance, while the attraction itself is accessible by parking at a visitor center and either walking down a fairly steep trail or taking a (seasonal) chairlift. On the dreary day I visited, there was barely a soul in sight, but the park seemed to be setting up for a winter lights festival. The tunnel itself is used for a railroad line, and a viewing platform allows you to go to the edge of the tunnel but you can't actually go through it, which is disappointing. The trail downstream through the gorge is pleasant and worth a brief jaunt but it terminates quickly. Those seeking more of a hike will find the ridge trail that heads upwards worthwhile, and the views of the tunnel from above are probably at least as good as what you'd get walking up close to it. The local Lover's Leap is majestic (and horrifying, if you think about it). I did not think it one of the more impressive state parks in either Virginia or in the the confluence of states in this region, but there are some nice things to see.

It is by the lake, so had great views. They have nice to basic picnic shelters and pavilions which can match any budget. (Smaller old shelters are as little as $10 a day, and include a grill. See posted photos.) The park is by a public boat launch, paid boat slips, and a campground. They have an outdoor clamshell style stage, lots of walking paths, and pretty nice playgrounds. I really have been enjoying reading in the shade lately, while my husband plays an extra round. The only things I could wish to see improved would be a more easily accessed handicapped bathroom* and a fenced in dog run.** Morristown is doing a pretty good job with their parks. We visit this park, and the nearby dog park at Jaycee field once a week, and often end up getting lunch in town, or running errands. They are hosting this years Tennessee State Disc Golf Championship, June 7-9. Way to go, Morristown! *the bathroom has a handicapped ramp, but is a long walk from the parking lot. This would work for those in scooters, but would be too much for someone in a walker. **the Morristown Dog Park at Jaycee Field is not too far away though, and it is very nice.

It's not a bad fee but I'm very sure that the fee goes towards maintaining the parks. Staff here was friendly outside but they weren't too friendly inside. Restrooms were not working but they had really clean Porta potties. Me and my wife hiked the Lakeside Trail which is a two and a half mile Trail. The trails are fairly maintained and there's a great chance you'll see some Wildlife here too. At the end of the trail we saw some Bobcats though they were hiding from the rain. They do have another exhibit inside that we didn't catch since there was a school field trip inside. Overall, it was a great place worth checking out. Merchandise inside the store was grossly overpriced as well.

They have mild spots for beginners, and extremely difficult long hikes for those who love a challenge! There are many paths to take and different destinations, so you never get bored of hiking the same trail over and over. There's always a surprise. The view is absolutely stunning, and somehow, it's always so clean! I absolutely adore this trail, it's the only trail I go to now. Here's a photo of me after the hike! This has become my usual spot to just hang out and enjoy nature. It's very peaceful closer to the top, so I enjoy meditating here, as well. Definitely recommend this wonderful place!! I've only visited in the winter, but sporting fields for soccer seem to allude to more use in the summertime. There is a kids playground and athletic exercise equipment for adults. Park is pretty clean, not too many people on weekdays. Lots of rocks after the beach atea and further down people go rafting or canoe oaddle. Nolichucky is beautiful when the water is moving and this is an ideal spot to enjoy the river. About 20 mins from Johnson City/Jonesborough off i26, very easy to get to.

The parking is off on a gravel area on the side of the road and it's limited. To get to the falls cross the street and follow the path through the woods. It's a super short and really easy path but once you get to the falls you do have to do some climbing and maneuvering so I don't recommend for anyone disabled, small children, or older folks who have issues getting around. We recently went post hurricane Helen and it looks a little different. The wood planks for crossing are gone but the straps remain to help you get out of the swimming hole. There is a fallen tree we had to climb over. Still many people there having a great time just as before!
