It was a bit of a last minute hire, but you wouldn't know it from the tremendous job she did of pinning down my taste, giving me a slew of options with realistic pricing and executing the job. I honestly came over all teary-eyed when I walked into the venue and saw my vague ideas turned into the beautiful and fun creations by Laurel. Laurel did the flowers for our wedding, and she was amazing. We wanted to incorporate more succulents and fruits and herbs, and she was totally on board... and then, my wife decided to get REALLY involved. For some, still unexplained reason, my wife (who was pretty much Zen-bride throughout the process) decided that flowers and centerpieces were going to be THE most important thing about our wedding. She laughs at herself now, but in the process, I lost my desired fruits and herbs, but we were able to keep the succulents as a part of our flower arrangements. Upon reflection, we both agree that we could've just given Laurel a set of decoration parameters (Vintage Garden Wedding, in our case) and trusted her to design centerpieces and flowers to match. It's ok though because we LOVED the centerpiece ideas that my wife came up with (mixed vintage vases with mahogany candlesticks and bird cages) along with the flowers Laurel did to complete every portion of the decoration. Wow, judging by the other reviews, it looks like Laurel has come a long way from when I interacted with her. That's good to know, seeing as my experience with her was awful. She was one of the florists I contacted about doing my wedding flowers. I found her completely unhelpful, impatient and unprofessional. My interactions with her were totally awkward. In fact, when I asked if she thought a certain kind of flower would be good for a wedding she said, "who gives a fuck, just get what you want." I appreciate that she wasn't rigid about flowers but come on...a) I was looking for some guidance (I told her up front I didn't know much about flowers and b) I usually reserve using the word "fuck" for second and third conversations. Actually, I don't use it at all when conducting business. But the icing on the cake is when I later contacted her to thank her for her time and let her know I was going with another florist (Sharla Flock - she was awesome!), she had such an attitude - really bitchy. I'm sorry, but isn't the polite and professional response when someone decides not to use your services something like, "Sorry it didn't work out, best of luck," or something to that effect??? Laurel is truly a master of her craft. We gave Laurel quite a challenge for our wedding. We wanted some very unique arrangements, in unique styles, and had no need for roses. We wanted the entire center piece to be around pink peonies that were scheduled to come into bloom less than 10 days before the wedding (and just try to guess California weather lately...). Laurel had to plan, arrange, create backup plans, and work with my wife often on style and needs. We also gave Laurel the wonderful experience of having a ceremony site roughly a 2 hour drive from the reception site, just to throw another wrench in the gears. However, when it came to be day-of, Laurel executed perfectly. The flower arrangements were breath taking, the bouquets were perfectly designed and executed. Even the boutonnieres were amazing! Throughout the wedding and reception people could not stop talking about how beautiful the flowers were. As a testament for Laurel, at the end of the night at the rehearsal, when we went to give away the center pieces, we found not only did people want them: we had more people that desperately wanted the center pieces then we had available! People were so excited to take them home, that even with 17 tables and only 80 guests, some of the ladies were left unhappily leaving empty handed. I overheard multiple talk about the beauty of the flowers, and I can't agree more. Laurel added a touch of color to the perfect wedding, and her accents were spot on to our wants: we could not have asked for more from her. Laurel was great to work with. I found her through my wedding venue, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, preferred vendor list. Like one of the other reviewer had mentioned, Laurel gets it. She was able to understand what I was looking for. After going through my Pinterest she offered various suggestions and politely corrected some of my not so great ideas, e.g. the use of balloons. Laurel provided flowers for the wedding (bouquets, center pieces and other decorating flower), the Chuppah and flower for the cake. I provided the vases for the center pieces and through out the process she was communicative and responsive. Towards the end, I added boutonnieres and corsages but did not communicate on how it should look nor color. I had no idea how they should look and I did not need to as Laurel's artistry and expertise was all I needed. The best thing about her is that she is cost conscious. She will make suggestions and offer cost effective ways to do thing. I felt comfortable with her and was able to trust her skill. Laurel provided the flowers for my wedding, held under a flower-bedecked Chuppah on the beach, as well as floral arrangements for a reception at my home and at a nearby restaurant. We met initially to discuss my vision for the wedding & Laurel "got it" instantly. The photos she sent me of examples of what she would provide in the way of bouquets & arrangements were beautiful, so I knew I would be happy with them, but the actual flowers she brought with her on the day of my wedding far exceeded my expectations. Whenever I look at my wedding photos, my eye is invariably drawn to the flowers, which served to pull the entire look of the wedding together & were a perfect expression of my aesthetic. Booked Laurel for my wedding last month at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel near Union Square. She came recommended by the hotel's preferred vendor list and was an obvious choice for me since florals were one aspect of wedding planning that I struggled with. I definitely understood the need to have flowers for décor but I had no idea where to start. After touching base with a few other florists while shopping, many gave me the cold shoulder when I was unable to describe what I wanted. Laurel guided me through the process and after swapping images and Pinterest boards there was finally a realization of what I was attracted to and what worked for my venue. We met Laurel many years ago through a mutual friend. Since then I have seen some sporadic examples of her work at charity events in San Francisco and they were always lovely. When it came time to help plan our daughter's wedding and we were having trouble finding a venue she liked, I called Laurel. I knew she had worked all over the Bay Area and I asked her what her top 3 venues were. The first was The City Club and we never made it past that! LOL! It was an amazing location and I cannot thank Laurel enough for recommending it. So, of course we hired Laurel to do the flowers! Over the course of a few months there were some meetings and a lot of emails between Laurel, myself and my daughter (living on the East Coast), in order to communicate (and fine tune) my daughter's vision for her tables. She saved the day when she added a couple of individual flower arrangements that I forgot to order ahead of time. I recently met with Laurel to discuss the flowers for my wedding in October and she is such a lovely person! Our wedding is quite small and I was afraid that, because we only need 2 bouquets and 2 boutonnieres, we might not get the same attention as someone with a larger order. Boy was I wrong! I contacted Laurel through her website and described what I wanted, which included dahlias in mid-October. She got back to me right away, assured me that it was possible to get dahlias late in the season and provided several, well thought out suggestions that were so inspiring. I went to meet with her a few days later and she was so easy to communicate with - we were right on the same page.
