We also enjoyed browsing the farm market and picking up some fresh local products before heading home. The cute farm theme and friendly atmosphere made for a fun and memorable outing. The only thing we would love to see added in the future is a small food and drink stand, as we could have easily spent a few more hours there. Overall, a great value for families with young children, and we'll definitely be back!

I asked whether I could bring my 15-year-old cat (because I did not want to leave him with a cat sitter). I received a response saying it would be "incredibly cruel," that my cat would likely be killed within a week, and that cats don't live much past 15. I immediately explained that I had contacted the wrong farm and was asking about an overnight stay elsewhere. I said that I regretted contacting this farm precisely because the language in the email reflected the language in the FAQ of the website, confirming my distaste. Despite this, I was then told, "I regret that you own a cat and you want to give it away" and that they would like to take my cat "to save it from you." This was extremely presumptuous and inappropriate. I was already put off by the condescending tone of the website FAQ, including the wording "Please don't feed your fingers to our animals." Unfortunately, my direct interaction reinforced that impression. I was offended by the morally superior and presumptuous response I received, and I told the sender of this email to go away. Regardless, Carma Farms kept emailing me toxic messages. I hope to god I never forget this exchange and accidentally visit these people at their farm. I'm very disturbed.

I have been eating them like candy! Some CSA items have been in our fridge for over a week and still looking fresh. A weekly letter is sent to give us ideas of what to make or maybe frozen for later. One of the perks of being in the CSA bin program is that admission to the farm is complimentary and we can come back anytime! Perfect if you have kids in the family. We went last weekend, it was a lot of people and kids there. This is a huge farm that lots of…read morevarieties to pick. Now it's a good time to pick strawberries, raspberry, blueberries, peas, and corns. There are wagons to take ppl from one field to another. We got off at the strawberry field, but we don't really into the strawberry, so just took a look; then we got to the raspberry field, they looked good, but we barely eat raspberry; then we went to the Blueberry field, our destination was here. We saw another side of the field was having big blueberries, but they didn't open that side to us. And they said it was noon already, most of the big ones had been picked. I tasted a few, they were sort of big, but soured. We moved to other sides, but still the same. When we went home, most of them we made smoothies with honey. We also went to the peas field, not too many people. The peas were so sweet that we could eat them raw. But we went home to boil them with the skin, the skin was hard to eat, it was not snow peas, and too expensive when weighed with the skin. Good experience for the kids. They were happy.

We were charged $7 per person just to enter and take our annual photo by the growth chart, even though we weren't using the playground. We have been taking photos of our kids at the growth chart for over 15 years. The market was also significantly overpriced: the same Niagara peaches that sold for about $7 at grocery stores were $16, and corn was $1.25 per ear compared with 24 cents at a local grocery store. The frozen yogurt, once made with fresh fruit from the farm and real yogurt is now a frozen premix product loaded with sugar and tastes horrible. The issue isn't simply higher prices, it's paying more for lower quality and a less authentic experience. After 16 years of returning, our family will no longer be among those customers. If these changes continue, Barrie Hill Farm risks losing many of the loyal families who helped support it for years.

They make their own pies, tarts, biscuits, cookies and brownies from fruit that they harvest on site. They also have unpasteurized apple cider, jams and Thornbloe cheeses for sale. Nothing sits on the shelves for very long because there's a long line up of customers; the good thing is, the baked goods are fresh and the line up goes quickly. Most staff are as sweet as apple pie, there are only a few sour apples in the bunch. Things I've tried: - Brownie with chocolate frosting - everyone raves about their regular brownies, but this, soooo moist and chocolatey! - Apple pie - great balance between tart and sweet. I would have preferred to have the crust golden brown (see pic). You can also find the pies in their refrigerated case ready to bake at home, which would solve the anemic crust issue AND you could probably pass it off as one of your own. - Assorted tarts - Pumpkin - nice spicing - Maple Syrup - too sweet - Apple Streusel - too sweet, I'd rather buy the apple pie. - Apple and Cheese biscuit - savoury, would make a nice side especially if there was gravy to be sopped up. - Scone with fruit - taste more like a biscuit. As far as the apple picking goes, you can bring your own bags or purchase some there (small bags are 75 cents). You can pick apples close to the front of the farm but there are only a few varieties available and fewer apples in the trees. To get to the orchards in the back you'll need to hop on their covered wagon; please leave a donation, it goes to the food bank. Before you start picking, you'll get a quick tutorial on how to pick apples without damaging the tree or apples around it. Trees are short and full of apples so kids will have an easy time picking their own. When you get back you'll need to have your apples weighed at the right side of the entrance to the store then line up for the cashier is to the left. If all of that is too much of a hassle for you, there are apples in baskets and bags in the store that you can pick up. Bring a picnic, park it on one of their picnic tables next to the playground, and enjoy the day.

There's a few parking area (on grass and cement) but be prepared for a far-ish walk. They have 2 lines, one for preregistered and one for regular. Be prepared to wait! However the lines move fairly quickly, so it's not too bad. We were given a "passport" where vendors stamped so that you can only go to each one once, which I thought was a great idea. This year they had 10 vendors = 10 sampling stations! They were all very nice and gave very decent portions. Half way through I was pretty full already. Some of my favourites were the duck wings and smoked duck breast. Our last stop concluded at the Farm Fresh Store where you can buy all sorts of duck products. This place was madness! Super busy with only 2 counters to check out and no place to put the stuff you wanted to buy. Overall I still managed to get what I wanted but I would like to come back in the future to look through the items carefully. It was a fun event and I can't wait for next year!
