They also carry some nice little gifts/home items, such as candles, The Laundress products, and perfumes. The ladies behind the counter are always lovely and they run great sales and promotions (of special interest was their "12 Days of Christmas" in which they ran a different promotion on each of the 12 days leading up to Christmas - very cool). Great little boutique for the unique and fashion-forward.

Not that I need yet another reason to love Strathcona, but this clothing store is just the best…read more I went here recently to get some new wardrobe pieces for 2012, and I was not disappointed. In my opinion, all of the clothing at Charlie & Lee is beautiful -- stylish and casual without being overly hipstery. There seems to be an emphasis on unique and flattering cuts that have a timeless edge -- like the ruched skirt, black blazer and die-cut oxfords I came away with the last time I went here. One of the things that often frustrates me with clothing shopping is the lack of really good service. I've experienced pushy salespeople who follow me around, and snobby salespeople who completely ignore me, but rarely do I encounter intellioent salespeople like the ones at Charlie and Lee. The girls who work here actually ask me what I'm looking for, choose pieces for me to try on, and then give their HONEST opinion when I step out of the changeroom. What a relief!

What can I say, I like being stylish :) and supporting local artists. Adhesif has a very distinctive style that I appreciate both on an aesthetic and on a good-for-the-environment level, as all of the pieces are made out of other items of clothing. You might also find some cute buttons/broaches and hair pieces here. The prices are for handmade, so they may be higher than you're going to find elsewhere, but you can also wait for "Nifty for Fifty" which is a sale that the owner hosts every spring. It features lots of independent designers, including Adhesif, and everything is under $50. The only downside to this store is that it's very specific. Luckily, Forysa is next door so you can get in more shopping and browsing than if you were to make a trip specifically for Adhesif.

Then I found Adhesif Clothing and Melissa and my wardrobe and views of fashion and fear of colour have completely changed - and only for the best. Melissa - the owner - has an amazing eye for style and brings unique and colourful pieces of fabrics together - mostly from salvaged, vintage clothing that she has creatively reworked into awesome, colourful and one of a kind pieces. Her enthusiasm and willingness to share her knowledge of fashion and style and her brilliant pieces have transformed my once boring wardrobe into one that is exciting and vibrant. Even my husband comments on my new-found style and each morning my mother must see what 'Adhesif' piece I may be wearing. She says I have such beautiful clothes and I agree. I am thrilled with every 'Adhesif' piece I own! I find that I rarely leave the house without at least one 'Adhesif' item. Each of the pieces I have collected builds on the other and the colour palette and style allows me to mix and match items to help create a selection for all occasions. See, I've learned so much. I'm just an ordinary person who has extraordinary taste thanks to Melissa. Except for the basics - it's a one-stop-shop for me. Upon entering, I was amazed at the talent of the local designers' work. There are some beautifully tailored pieces made with high quality material/fabrics throughout the shop. I can't really afford much of the clothing right now because I am a student. However, I will be coming back again and again because of the jewelry. I am in love with the vintage reworks by the various local designers. Lots of the jewelry are one-of-a-kind and handmade. I bought 2 necklaces: one for $32 (on sale, regular $40), and one for $38. I'd say these prices are fair. The owner is awesome. She's extremely knowledgeable, talkative and friendly with everyone that comes in. She isn't pushy and you can tell that local fashion is her passion. If you are unable to attend the city's local craft markets, then this is the place to be! I plan on taking a peak at Little Dream on Granville Island very soon! I have a feeling Dream is just a taste of the one-of-a-kind stuff. There must be more at the other location!

Beware Fake Sale Practices! I have been going to this store…read moresince it opened years ago and have been very happy with my purchases, and their sales have always been great too! However the last couple of times I have been in I have noticed something odd with my bill. First I was told there was 50% off when I was looking, then I was told it was 30% when I came to pay and then I was told that the ticket price was actually the sale price. On my receipt it listed the ticket price and a sub-total was a price $100 more than the the combined ticket price. I'm pretty sure this is illegal. I just want to warn everyone that they are using and age-old fake sale strategy to sell their products, so beware! Shame I loved this store, I will be looking for an honest retailer for my custom from now on.
