I come here with my white shepherd. 5$ to get into the park. There is a lot to do. We stay close to the water. Dog friendly which is perfect. I will say that the water looks dirty but these days most are. We didn't see any gators. And the dogs were able to swim while I was able to catch some sun. I have been here a few times and will be back.

Nature trails and camping! Love the lake views and the awesome sunsets.

This place is small and family oriented. The RV spots are smaller than most DNR places my wife and I have been at but good for what they have to offer. The staff was very nice and polite! The lake draws a lot of boaters and jet skies but if you just want to swim they have a roped off section just for that. This place has a lot of pine trees in the area so be careful when moving your RV around. When returning from our trip I noticed that a Pine tree had dropped some Pine sap on our truck and it wasn't just a few drops it was a lot, so grabbed some soap and a brush and began washing it off. It all came off but be aware of this when you stay here that you may have this happen to your vehicle. Love the lake view and the nature trails. We will return soon as we had a wonderful time.

A real surprise. Stopped by to use their dog park but ended up going to a class one of the rangers was teaching

We came to camp one night and then head out to the Okefenokee Swamp the next morning for a swamp tour.

Beautiful and unique experience. Where else can you see crumbling ruins from the gilded age, the…read morebeach, and a herd of wild horses? There is something here for everyone and for people of all abilities. Most of the main part of the island is flat, including from the dock and up to the ruins (it's about 0.4 to half a mile from the dock to the ruins--and there are beach wheelchairs). There's also a main road that traverses the island from one end to the other for about 18 miles that can be traveled by bicycle. There's also an inn and multiple historical structures you can visit. You can also visit a beautiful, mostly empty beach! I got off at the first stop, which is the most challenging stop, meaning I had to climb over sand dunes to get to the beach. It was QUITE the workout and exhausting (I felt it for days after). Someone told me that the second ferry stop is a much easier, more direct path to the beach. This was a wonderful, serene location. I saw several groups of horses along my hike. The greenery is beautiful. I wouldn't mind coming back and setting up camp (permit required) so I can travel the whole island on bike and by foot. Spending more time on the tranquil beach. I wouldn't spend time at the end, as it's 900-1000 dollars or more per night with a two night minimum. If you're looking to visit the island during the day, the RiverView Hotel is RIGHT THERE, essentially directly across from the ferry, and costs about 200 a night for great vintage rooms with comfy beds. Please see my reviews of the ferry and Molly's tours to build a whole itinerary. You'll never see anything else like this, anywhere else in the world probably. It's a fairly cost effective trip, with the ferry costing just over 40 bucks round trip, the inn costing about 200 a night, and the island entry fee being just a few bucks.

Staying in the Stafford home was a special treat and something that I will never forget! Touring the homes on the island and learning about the history of Cumberland was magical!

In a spot the whole world is interested in and its future preservation is extremely important for future generations! The visitor center is so kid friendly and fun to explore! Truly a great visitor center and they're building a new one which I bet will be even bigger and better! We walked the trail to the large tower and then also walked to see the homestead! The tower hike was missing shade from the fire in 2017 but besides that it was super enjoyable. The homestead was locked up when we went but it was still super fun to walk around and peek in the windows. The adventure boat company was worth it to get out into the swamp with knowledgeable guides! Truly a remarkable special place. It's HUGE so make sure you know which entrance you need to go to. There are two and they are not close to each other haha.
