Great little campground at the Okefenokee Swamp! We are camping here for 3 nights in a 30' Class A…read more The campground sites offer water, electric and a dump station. Each site is level and gravel. There is not any privacy between sites but they are not stacked on top of each other either. There is a fire pit, a picnic table, a grill and a lantern hook at each site. There are only 3 campsites on Lake Laura Walker but all of the other campsites have a view of it. There is one bathhouse for the campground and I did not go in it so I don't know how clean it is. The rest of the park is well maintained so I imagine the bathhouse would be too. The park offers a visitor center with a gift shop and ice cream and boiled peanuts for sale. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The park is about 20 mins from Waycross should you need to shop or grab a bite to eat. There are two playgrounds, a fitness area, many pavilions and picnic areas. There is also an area for Sunday Church service which starts at 9:30 am. They also offer cabins and cottages for rent and there are separate campgrounds for pioneer and group camping. They have a VERY large dog park! One side for small dogs and the other for large dogs. Each side offers a bench and a watering station. This dog park added an extra star to my overall rating! We enjoyed our stay here and were happy to find out we were only about 8 miles from the Okefenokee Swamp Park which is also highly recommended!

We loved the Heritage Farm area of the park. The kids enjoyed feeding the turkeys, chickens, goats,…read moresheep, ducks, and horse. The boars were a little intimidating, but interesting to see. The grounds in the farm area are maintained nicely and the little museum with additional animal exhibits (salamanders, snakes, and turtles) was very informative. The rangers on duty were friendly and offered additional information as well. There were rentals available for bikes, paddle boats, and kayaks from the Trading Post and a small assortment of items for sale in the gift shop there. Fishing was also allowed on the little lake. The road going back to the campground loops needs work still - there are many potholes. The Swamp Trail had recently reopened and was available to walk. There's still a lot of storm devastation in the woods surrounding the trails- it'll take many years to recover, but the walking path has been restored. The campground loops are maintained well - loop 1 is not paved, but loop 2 is. Some sites don't offer much privacy, but we did enjoy site 50. The comfort station included a washer, dryer, a dish station, a little book library and a few restroom stalls. We were surprised that there was only one shower stall in each restroom though. There's really not anything else to do in the area though, so it's a quick weekend trip type of destination. Overall, a decent state park with unique animal encounter experiences.

Boating into the hole before dark, watching the sun rise and then mallards cupped up and coasting into the hole was fantastic! Then back to the lodge for breakfast. The cinnamon rolls were some of the best I ever had and then the full breakfast that included several meats! After a short break we shot five stand and played a few shooting games with that. So much fun! Had a great lunch then off to the fields for some pheasant! The dogs are so much fun to watch! Mossy Pond has the best dogs I have ever seen and I guess they should because dogs are being trained every where there isn't hunting going on. The pheasant flew good and we even missed a few. Our guide was always attentive to us and after awhile ask if we were tired or ready for more. We voted more! So we hunted until the sun was setting! Our groups came together and spread our harvest out for a great picture with the moon in the background. What a great way to remember our hunt! Appetizers and cocktails awaited us after we cleaned up a bit. Then we had fried quail for supper. The absolute best quail meal I ever ate bar none!! That would have been a full day but then someone ask if I had ever hunted hogs with a thermal scope in the dark. How do you say no to that, right!? So off again and it wasn't long after that I was looking at 40 hogs in a field. If you have never used a thermal scope it is amazing to view all that movement in the dark! I just had to pick the one I wanted and now I have fresh hog to share with my friends at home! What a day jam packed full of shooting, food and fun!! Now when I invite my buddies over to brag about this hunt, I just have to decide which I want to share with them. Will it be duck, pheasant or hog?? Or maybe I will just over do it and do the entire trifecta at once!! We had such a great time! I cannot wait to return!!
