First Class customer service at Mossy Pong Lodge; it truly was second to none. The lodge is a beautiful place and the activities were fantastic but the exceptional service it what sets the tone for the whole experience. Brad & Ellen obviously care a great deal about taking care of their guests and that sentiment is shared by their whole team. My wife and I stayed late in early August and had a great time.
We shot sporting clays with Ty which was awesome, it is clearly laid out to challenge even experienced shooters but Ty walked us through the patterns and pulled clays at a speed where even novices like my wife and I had a fighting chance! We really enjoyed it and I think we're hooked I suspect that we'll find some place locally to go shoot clays again.
We also chartered an inshore fishing trip with Captain Drew and had a great time on the water, we chose inshore to avoid any seasickness since my wife is prone to motion sickness and the inshore waters were incredibly smooth, she had no issues at all. We caught a few fish, saw some gators & beautiful marshlands, caught a bonnethead shark(which was maybe the most fun catch & release fish I've caught) and the lodge packed us a cooler full of drinks, chips and huge chicken & bacon sandwiches to make sure we didn't miss lunch.
We each scheduled 1 hour massages and let me tell you, sitting amongst the Georgia Pines in the Adirondack chairs on the porch of the Executive Lodge after a massage is top notch relaxation. Regrettably I don't recall the masseuse's name but if you ask Ellen she can tell you!(I think it was Liz)
Speaking of the Executive Lodge, the place is beautiful. High ceilings, gorgeous mounts, 24-7 access to drinks & snacks, very comfy beds with heavy duvets that are fantastic if you like to sleep cold like we do. We dropped the thermostat and the AC chilled the room down in no time - slept like a baby.
I may have saved he best for last here... Big Momma & Mossy Pond know how to feed folks! Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner... all this place does is hit home runs at the dinner table. They serve some fantastic appetizers & drinks before every dinner but DO NOT overdo it because you really need room for dinner. Quail, Steak & Chicken Tacos, Seafood Boil(Snowcrab, Crawfish, Taters & Corn on the Cob), fresh caught Sea Trout and Tri-Tail(They will cook your catch and we had neighbors that were generous enough to share!). And as good as dinner is, save room for dessert because that's where Big Momma shines! Blueberry Cobbler with ice cream, Butterfinger Brownies, Strawberry Cake and Brookies - each dessert was truly exceptional. Breakfast was right on par as well, my favorite breakfast was biscuits smothered with eggs, sausage patties, bacon and gravy served with cinnamon rolls the size of a small dinner plate!
There are simply too many kindhearted people at the lodge for me to call out by name and I think a more telling observation is that in the several days we were there we only ran across people that wanted us to have a great time. It's a family atmosphere of sorts and they just welcome you into that family before you even arrive because we got a taste of their special brand of hospitality from the moment they picked us up at the airport.
I encourage everyone that has an affinity for the outdoors to make a trip to Mossy Pond and I really hope that my wife and I have an opportunity to come back, I know I can bust more clays next time and there are definitely more fish to be caught.(I almost forgot! You don't even have to leave the lodge to do some fishing - they have gear on hand so you can fish their ponds and catch real nice fish right outside the bar! Let them make you a drink and then step out side and toss in a line.) read more
