My father came to Dr, Nasatir in the midst of a deep depression accompanied by severe anxiety. In just a few short months, she helped guide him out of that very dark place. Her bedside manner is truly exceptional--she is kind, compassionate, and genuinely listens. She takes the time to understand her patients and is incredibly easy to talk to, which is so important when building trust in a doctor-patient relationship. I apologize for the length of the review. For the most part, she is a fairly good doctor. The meds she prescribed were working. What gets her 1 star are the interactions we've had with her and her office. Just as another review stated, whenever I would talk to her she would half listen. She was mostly focused on other things which felt very unprofessional. My daughter is much more forgiving with things like this, but even she pointed out the same observations and expressed that she didn't like the way it made her feel. (-1 Star) We found out that my daughter's school district was sending her to a school with a history of issues. We moved to our area for a school that is much better rated, but they were full. My daughter was bullied all of elementary school so this was very important to us. We asked the Dr. if she'd be willing to write a letter supporting our daughter in attending the better school in our area. She refused. The whole conversation I had with the office was as if it was such an inconvenience for them to do so. There was no mention of policy or anything like that. Just the statement of, "Your story is good enough to get her into the desired school". I'll explain later why this was troublesome for us. (-1 star) When we schedule our appointments we do so about 6 weeks in advance. When my daughter was last seen, we scheduled for May 28th. At the time we had no idea this was Memorial Day. The Medical Assistant, Sarah, was kind enough to give us a reminder call and did explain that the office building may be closed that day and to call up for her to get us if it was. She had called me while I was at work so I was not completely focused on the conversation and just did not put 2 and 2 together that our appt was on a holiday. We missed our appt and were penalized the $150 fee. I'm perfectly fine with this because it was our responsibility to remember. The interactions with the office, however, were not okay. When Sarah called to reschedule, her personality changed from all of the other interactions we've had which were enjoyable. She seemed short with me, upset and inconvenienced. Like I had wronged her personally and ruined her day. It was noticeable enough for me to tell my wife later that evening. When we arrived at our next appointment, Sarah called me over to the window and said she had a question. She said that there was a $150 balance on our account. I was a little thrown off because I was waiting for her to ask me a question, but she never did so we had an awkward moment of just staring at each other briefly. I asked her what her question was, and she didn't completely ask it. She gave me the look of seeing if I was okay with that. I responded with, "Yea, it sucks, but what can you do?" When the Dr. was ready to see my daughter, she said she wanted to speak to her alone when generally we'll go in together, I'll pay the copay and give her an update on how well she's doing. According to my daughter, she asked her why there was the missed appt. My daughter doesn't have access to our calendar and I didn't discuss the appt with her, so she didn't even know about it. She said the Dr. was sort of digging for the reason why the appointment was missed and my daughter told me it was very off-putting. She asked if I was at work and my daughter answered yes because she felt ambushed. I was frustrated because a doctor should not be questioning a child about things she has no control over. Especially when I've already had this conversation with her MA. When I entered the office, she also brought it up to me and wanted the $150 paid right there. My wife handles the finances so I couldn't commit to that. She stated it's in our contract and seemed very annoyed that I wouldn't be paying her right there. (-1 Star) At the end of the appt we scheduled for July 2nd and I explained I didn't have my calendar with me and she said it would be okay to call and cancel if it conflicted. A couple of days later I called to cancel because it conflicted with another appointment. They were not in the office when I called so I left a message. When Sarah called me back, I was driving in the car with a client. She said she canceled the appointment and wanted to reschedule. Since I had a guest in the car and I did not have my calendar and didn't want to make the same mistake, I responded with, "Not at this time". Today I received a letter from the Dr. that said she was terminating her care for my daughter because her MA told her I was never bring my daughter in again. That wasn't true. I was planning on calling this week to reschedule. The doctor went on to explain she called our pharmacy just to see if we picked up our child's new prescription and we hadn't yet so she explained she would not be granting any new refills either. She put more effort into writing this termination letter and calling our pharmacy than she did helping my kid with her school situation noted above. I was referred here by my therapist, and I couldn't be happier or more comfortable with Dr. Nasatir and her staff. Dr. Nasatir schedules enough time with clients to really get to know them; previous psychiatrists I've had checked-in with me for 10-15 mins and I was constantly questioning whether I had given them enough information (and, therefore, whether I was prescribed appropriate meds). She also focuses on holistic care, offering recommendations to improve nutrition, interpersonal relationships, sleep hygiene, and mindfulness-based coping skills. I also can't overstate how helpful it is to interact with her professional, kind, and responsive assistant(s). When you have anxiety/depression, sometimes the dread of interacting with impersonal/judgmental staff can be a treatment-seeking barrier. There is a noticeable difference in my interactions with Dr. Nasatir's assistant, Sarah. I feel comfortable calling the office when I have questions/concerns, and just sitting in the waiting room. These things are often overlooked in doctors' offices, and I really appreciate their attention to detail. It makes a world of difference, especially for someone with anxiety. read more

Dr. Laura Nasatir is the most competent, understanding, and attentive Psychiatrist I have met. I have had the pleasure of being her patient since 2017. I sought treatment for over 25 years and have met some of the strangest or most incompetent doctors, the first time I met with Dr. Nasatir I knew she was well-educated and she knew what she was doing. Dr. Nasatir has been on the rollercoaster ride with me, she is very honest with you. You have to put the work in every day and fight to stay mentally healthy, she has a great ear and gives you the tools to help you achieve your mission. Please don't think that one or two appointments will provide you with the answers to all your needs, visit her and you will find out how wonderful she works. It takes a while to get the nuances of any provider that treats you. Has it always been easy...no. You may not like what you hear at times but that is for you to work on and discuss with all of your providers. I have gone off the rails several times and she always gets me back on track. I also have paid out-of-pocket since my insurance does not cover her as a provider, that is how great I think she is at helping people. I am not a rich man. However, whenever I need her I know she is there. She has truly saved my life and I thank her for working with me and medications that actually work. I've since moved back east so I no longer see Dr. Nasatir. I made an appointment with her in advance, while still living in Sacramento. I had no idea where I'd be on that day; however, I figured I could make the appointment, regardless. Just so happens the appointment landed on the DAY I arrived in New Hampshire. I fucked up the time difference and missed the appointment and she is still sending me a bill for that. You'd think after almost 10 years of being her client, she'd have a brief moment of kindness and forgive this ONE time of missing a phone call...just based on the fact that I was on the road for 5 days with 2 large dogs, staying in random hotels along the way after the stressful 3 weeks of selling the house, buying a car the day before departure, and...well you get the idea. I'm actually quite saddened by this too...But, whatever. Life moves on. I'm still grateful to her for WAY more than I am angered by this surprising transgression in behavior. I found Dr. Nasatir to be...well, not a very good doctor. I experienced consistently long waits in the waiting room before seeing her. When she finally did welcome me into her office, her first question was to ask for the co-pay. Okay, I understand this is how she makes her living, but it was off-putting. In fact, I feel as though Dr. Nasatir is really motivated more by money than by care. I always felt rushed during our appointments--which lasted only 15 minutes at a cost of $150 each session. There were times when I wanted to discuss something troubling me only to be interrupted with her chirping "Well, we're out of time!" During our sessions, she was often distracted by her notes or computer while I spoke. She didn't use consistent eye contact, and I never felt she was really invested in me as a patient or as a human being. I deserve better, and so do you. read more

Dr. Nasatir is one of the most exceptional physicians I have ever seen. If it werent for her I would be 6 feet under. She has always treated me and my family with the utmost respect and honesty. She was my psychiatrist at Sutter Center for Psychiatry when I was just a teen. She put my family in touch with a residential treatment center in Utah which ultimately saved my life. I have had more than 40 inpatient psych hospitalizations in the last 10 years (more than 4 just this year) and she is the most competent doctor I have ever seen. That says a lot! Dr. Nasatir is the best-informed psychiatrist I've had in many, many years. She stays current with the literature, which I really appreciate, because that means we can fine-tune my meds as needed. I was told by my psychologist to go to her for a second opinion. I have bad anxiety and had some worries about my follow up appointment. Her staff does not answer the phone and takes several days to return messages. Dr. Nasatir herself will not return patients phone calls, instead you just relay phone tag messages to her back and forth through the staff. I called twice in one day and had to leave a voice message both times. Which is fine because I miraculously got a phone call back from her staff that day regarding both messages. (I don't normally call a doctor more than once in a day but I was having an extremely hard time that day.) I stated in the nicest way possible that I was going back to my regular psychiatrist and terminating my being a patient with Dr. Nasatir because I was just more comfortable with my psychiatrist of 9 years. I was extremely polite about it. Today I get a nasty letter in the mail from Dr. Nasatir herself (she can manage to type up hate mail but can't be bothered to return a phone call apparently). The letter was solely to complain to me that I called her office twice in one day and left messages. Seriously? You're a psychiatrist, you should expect that patients will call the office when feeling in a crisis. Geez. She said because of this she is terminating herself as my psychiatrist, and won't authorize any more medication refills. Um...no, I terminated her, and this letter was absolutely unnecessary. read more

Dr. Nasatir has greatly helped me deal with my anxiety and depression. When I first saw Dr. Nasatir my anxiety level was a 10/10. After three visits its somewhere around 3/10. Dr. is an extremely good listener. She put together a plan of action to treat my mental health deficiencies without over-prescribing me medicine like other psychiatrists. I feel very fortunate. I have had several psychiatrists over the past 18 years and Dr. Nasatir is hands down the best psychiatrist in Sacramento. read more
