They had to reschedule my appointment initially but I found that they were still accommodating. Angelina is the aesthetician that serviced me. She was very professional and did a great job. She took the necessary precautions by wearing a face mask, and had essentially what feels like a table cover over the table. She also provided me with a fresh face mask to wear after my treatment. I have had eye lash extensions done at 4 places now so I can make a good assessment on what should and should not happen during your experience. The eyelash place is located within a hair salon. You check in at the hair salon then are taken upstairs to their lash "lair". I waited 20 minutes to get a lavilash refill even though I made an appointment one week in advance. The salon owner had locked the lash "lair" door and no one at the salon had a key. Kind of sounds unprofessional and weird considering the fact that I made an appointment. You know, when you make an appointment that gives you advance notice to prepare for said appointment? Back to the experience... when I finally make it into the "lair" its nothing more than a walk in closet with a massage table and a big mirror on the wall. The place didn't feel warm or inviting or much of anything. It didn't look dirty, but it also didn't look clean either. My lash specialist applied my refills and we made small talk. She was nice I guess.I thought it was strange that she carried all of her lashes in her tote bag and didn't have any standard salon supplies with her like, the paper to set your lash tools on. (I think I saw her put it on the radiator) Also, I did not find it very professional to use my forehead as a table to put the eyelashes she was going to use. I kid you not, I don't make these things up! The lashes looked nice initially, but one week after application I developed dry flaking skin above my eyelids. I have never had this problem before let alone at any other lash place. I went to the eye doc and they said it could be from unsanitary practice to bad glue. Who knows. The only thing that I do know is that I will never judge a salon by its location again! This is the second time I thought a Newbury street establishment was going to be a lot more than it was.

When I arrived for my appointment I was surprised to find that it was not Darla who was going to do my lashes but a young lady named Rachel. I went ahead with the service and was super happy with the results. The lashes lasted about 3 weeks. I then went in for a fill and noticed that after a week or so my lashes were in need of another refill! After 3 fills I decided to let them all come out and go in again for a full set which seemed to last a lot longer. I went online to book my appointment and noticed that the price for a synthetic full set had increased by $100 (now $250)!! I called the salon to inquire about it and was not given a good reason as to the increase. I explained that I had been a steady customer for 3 months and could not justify paying $250 for a service that I had paid $150 for 3 months prior. The receptionist did not seem to care about customer loyalty and informed me there was nothing she could do. For THAT PRICE and the hassle of Newbury street parking this place is not worth my time and $. The same day I made an appointment with Lash L'Amour in Newton. I must say that I couldn't be happier with my decision!! After going in for a fill this past weekend I realized why my lashes came off so quickly at Salon Monet. At Lash L'Amour they ACTUALLY REMOVE the loose lashes before they start to fill them. This WAS NEVER DONE with my 3 fills at Salon Monet! It totally makes sense why after a week or so of getting a fill it looked like I needed another fill. Obviously if the loose lashes are not removed you are not getting your moneys worth for a fill. This is why they get a 2 star instead of 3. Not to mention that every time I go to Lash L'Amour I find parking right in front of the salon. Please read my review about Lash L'Amour.

I've actually had stylists try for hours to do, and re-do, a color job only to essentially give up and tell me all they could do was dye my hair brown and start from scratch. My hair pulls VERY warm and I love neutral ash tones so... yeah. I didn't have a lot of hope of things turning out well. I have been to stylists (who specialize in color) all over the US (most recently in Southern California), so have a lot of prior experience to compare to. That being said... I bought a Groupon for a Balayage at Top Shop. It was my first experience with this salon. I called to make the appointment and spoke with Leah who set me up for an appointment with Olivia for the following week. The salon is in a strip mall area and there is plenty of parking. It is next to a school and I happened to be there right when school was getting out, so traffic was heavy. I was welcomed into the busy salon by the receptionist and the Olivia promptly welcomed me back to her chair. Olivia is very personable and we had a nice chat during my time there. We initially discussed what I was looking for, and I showed her my pinterest board so she and I could make sure we were on a similar page. Then she went to mix up the magic (lightener)! I had natural roots grown in (about a 5/6A) and the rest of my hair was a dark golden blonde (8/9G). I was expecting to be in the chair for ever, but I was not left to sit for ages. From start (walked in) to finish (walked out) was there for maybe 2hr 15min. Olivia really delivered for me!!! She used the ashiest toner they had and dried a piece after the first toner to see if I was happy enough with the level of ash-which I really was. I was and am ever so grateful for what she was able to accomplish with my hair! I will definitely be back to her for sure! The final effect was a lovely color melt look toward my root area and great ashy blonde dimension from the Balayage in the length. I am so grateful!! Further, everyone who was having their hair done at the salon (men, old and younger women, and children), they all looked great!

The first time, this woman was NOT ATTENTIVE AT ALL. As she was working with my layers and bangs/combing through them she yanked hard and pulled out my helix piercing CLEAN THROUGH AND I WAS BLEEDING. It was more of the fact that she told me "you should've told me you had earrings" which was just her trying to make me accountable for her not paying attention. There was a moment of silence and absolutely NO APOLOGY was given to me. The two workers in the salon were just silent and rummaging through what to do because she gave me back my earring with my blood on it and for those who have cartilage piercings, they are expensive and take a long time to heal. She ripped it through my DAMN EAR that's how hard she combed through it. I am young and have social anxiety so I was trying so hard to be understanding in the moment but she finished up and the lady at the front desk gave me a tiny bag to put my earring in. But there was ultimately no apology...just the hair stylist saying she's usually so attentive with her customer's earrings (which counters when she said it should've been my responsibility to tell HER that I had them..well if she was so attentive she should've seen them)... When I paid I think I should've gotten a discount because...I left the salon bleeding...AND THEN THE FRONT DESK LADY had the audacity to ask FOR A TIP...I did my best to see past it and knew the haircut was decent so I still left one. Yet I left with no apology and the hair stylist not offering to pay for the earring to be put back in when she knew I was gonna go to a piercing salon nearby to see what the damage was. It was just so frustrating trying to be calm when no one wanted to take accountability. The second time I came in, I wanted to give it a second chance because it was just a trim to me but when I was assigned the same stylist, I began having an anxiety attack and I was unsure if she remembered me but this time I pointed out that I had earrings and braced myself. This time my ears were safe but because I asked for face framing layers....THIS BOTCHED MY BANGS DISGUSTINGLY. She took out such a huge chunk and the bangs didn't even frame my face. It was just 2 BLOCKS NEXT TO MY FACE. Just two blocks sitting next to my face that when I finished I immediately contacted another hair salon to take me in and to fix it. The new stylist was so kind to me and he was much more attentive and straight up said "these are not face framing..I'll fix it for you because the past stylist took out so much. I'm gonna trim a new section so you can have face framing bangs but I will leave the longer pieces she cut out so they can grow and begin blending with the back" From the photos, you can see MY BLOOD on my fingers with the front desk sign in the background, the second photo is the very stylist holding up my hair while I tried to see the damage, and in the third photo was the second time I went and had my bangs ruined. To the dear stylist: If you were so attentive to earrings why did you flip it around and victim blame me by saying I should've told you? I had gone through many stylists before Millie, struggling to find someone who could cut my curly hair so that I could style it properly and let it really fall in the right place. She nails the curly cut! When it comes to color Millie really listens to what you want. Even if the results didn't come out as you envisioned she will work at fixing it until you feel comfortable with it/adore it. What makes Millie exceptional is that she never rushes her colors/cuts. Other stylists have broken my base color in the past and she spent HOURS fixing it to make sure it looked like a natural color... she is the only stylist I know with this kind of patience! Whether it's a dye or highlight, you can rest assured it will look natural, (or not natural if you're shooting for something more edgy). Trust me I would know... she has taken me from blonde highlights, to brown, to platinum blonde, to red lol! But what I would like to emphasize most is how Millie has been a wonderful friend to me... my mom and I have become friends with her and her family over the years and they are all so sweet. Millie (and her family) were incredibly supportive during a very difficult time in my life; my cancer diagnosis. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Leukemia and had to go straight into emergency treatment. Thankfully I'm in remission and end treatment this March! But I remember the doctors telling me I would lose my hair in the hospital and that I wasn't allowed to leave for a month, due to a dangerously weak immune system. That's when my angel Millie came to the rescue. She drove right to Dana, chopped my medium length hair into a stunning pixie, and carefully rubber banded twenty 3 inch strands of hair for me to send off to a woman in Florida, who made a wig out of my hair. Millie didn't charge me a cent, left me with some styling tools and creams, and of course hugs. Unfortunately, a good friend of my mother's was diagnosed with Leukemia as well. Millie again came to the rescue and cut her hair for the wig privately at the salon, for free. I will never forget the kindness Millie showed me. Because of her, I was able to feel beautiful in the midst of such pain and loss.

At first, they make you really feel beautiful. You receive a ton of positive feedback and you're obsessed. Naturally, you go for the two week fill-in, and decide it'll be a summer fling. After a while though, they start draining your wallet, and make you feel super insecure without them. You know you inevitably need to break up, and that the relationship isn't healthy and can't last, but for whatever reason you keep going back, spending more money, and making excuses why you need them past Labor Day. Once it finally ends, you look at yourself in the mirror, and feel really ugly. You try to rebound quickly with Sephora, but it isn't the same, and you'll miss Robin Erb. Luckily, time goes by, and you eventually accept your natural lashes once again, and eventually feel pretty without your extensions. You go back to your drugstore mascara, and your real-life relationship will thank you for it. P.s- it is true. Robin is really, really pushy and does not accept "no" for an answer. She does do lovely lashes and this is a lovely salon, but take this as a cautionary tale.

So I went to my old stylist in NY and she told me that there were huge gaps in the back and that it hadn't been thinned out like I'd asked. It took her an hour and a half and 3 inches all around to fix it. Long story short: If you're looking for friendly service, go here. If you're looking for a quality haircut, look elsewhere.
